Universal Design for Learning (UDL): To incorporate some Universal Design for Learning elements
into this lesson, I will allow students to use the “Big Keys” keyboard, which is an enlarged keyboard
where the keys are highly-visible. This can help students struggling to type, or students with visual
impairments that have trouble seeing the small keys. I will have several of these available during
this lesson, so they are accessible to students if needed.

Basic Productivity Tools (BPT)
Reflective Practice: The activity that I created supports student learning by using technology to
determine the main idea of a text, and support it by key details. Students will have the
opportunity and freedom to design their newsletter, within the template provided by Microsoft
Word. To further extend this lesson, I could make a classroom newspaper, and add each students
newsletter. I could send this newspaper home to parents, so they are able to view their child’s
newsletter, along with their classmates. If I wanted to incorporate another productivity tool into
this lesson, I could have students use PowerPoint to create a presentation that they would show
their class to further explain their book.
