Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

To extend and support the learning experiences for all students, I would incorporate assistive technology such
as big keys and track balls for students who have developmental delays or lack certain fine motor skills.
Additionally, yoga balls would be included to aid student concentration during the lesson. Sentence starters will
also be provided for ELLs and other students who need help structuring their descriptions. Students will be
allowed to work with a partner or individually.

Lesson idea implementation:

This lesson would be implemented at the end of a unit on the American Revolution. After learning about the
various individuals who influenced or made an impact on the American Revolution, the students will be asked
to create a scrapbook page, using Discovery Education. On this scrapbook page students will showcase what
they’ve learned about those specific individuals and their contributions. Students will include videos, pictures,
and brief contributions regarding five of the following individuals: King George III, George Washington,
Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Benedict Arnold, Patrick Henry, John Adams, Paul Revere, and Black
regiments. The teacher will show the example below to the students before the students begin working.
Students will be allowed to work in pairs or individually on this assignment/project. It would take
approximately two-three days for 35 minutes a day for students to collect their information, add it to their
scrapbook, and prepare a presentation. The students would present their scrapbook to the class and the entire
project and presentation would be assessed as a summative assessment using a rubric that will be returned to

them. To extend the student learning to a higher learning level, the teacher will print out the students’
scrapbook pages, laminate them, and create a physical scrapbook that the students can keep.

Reflective Practice:
This lesson idea would impact student learning in the following ways: students will be encouraged to
collaborate, express their creativity, and serve as a memorable experience in this student-directed activity. To
further enhance this lesson, the students would create a timeline using the ReadWriteThink Online Timeline.
