A. INSULATION RESISTANCE (MEGGER) TEST PROCEDURES

SAES-P-116,
A1 Clean the assembly to be tested. Remove unnecessary materials.
Sec 3.2

Secure and isolate the area where the test is to be conducted. Place a SAES-P-116,

safety fence and sign board around the perimeter. Sec 3.2

A3 Check that the unit to be tested is not energized.

Perform an insulation resistance test at test values specified below:

With the panelboard switching device in the 'Open' position, apply the SAES-P-116,

With the panelboard switching device in the 'Close' position, apply the SAES-P-116,

recommended test voltage between Phase to Phase. Record result. Sec 3.2

With the panelboard switching device in the 'Close' position, apply the

A7 recommended test voltage between Phase to Frame/enclosure. Record

result.

After completing the test, all switching devices must be switched to SAES-P-116,

'Open' position. Sec 3.2

B. TEST EQUIPMENT

Test shall be performed using an Insulation Resistance Test Set SAES-P-116,

All resistance readings should be one megohm or greater for each
measurement. If any reading is less than one megohm, the circuit
breaker should be replaced or the manufacturer should be consulted SAES-P-116,

before restoring the circuit breaker to service. Any reading less than one Sec 3.2
megohm may indicate contaminated, flawed, or cracked insulating
material. (NEMA AB4, Sec 5.3.5)
