DESCRIPTIVE TITLE : Grade 9 Science


PRE-REQUISITE : Grade 8 Science
CREDIT UNITS : 160 hours

COURSE DESCRIPTION :

This course develops students’ understanding on how circulatory and digestive system work together in transporting nutrients, gases and other
molecules, the locations of chromosome and patterns of non-meridian inheritance, issues on how species extinct and the basic features of photosynthesis and
respiration.

It presents knowledge about ionic, covalent and carbon compounds, and mole concept. It provides students with ideas about volcanoes found in the
Philippines, effect of climate and climate change and relationship between visible constellations and Earth’s position.

It also presents concepts about projectile, impulse and momentum, transformation of energy, heat transfer and electric energy transmission and
transmission.
COURSE OBJECTIVES:

 Understand how respiratory and circulatory system works with other systems.
 Relate to the importance of technology in propagating economically important plants and animals.
 Explain how new materials are formed when atoms are rearranged.
 Recognize that a wide variety of useful compounds may arise from such rearrangements.
 Identify volcanoes and distinguish between active and inactive ones and their uses
 Relate to climatic phenomena that occur on a global scale.
 Explain why certain constellations can be seen only at certain times of the year.
 Predict the outcomes of interactions among objects in real life applying the laws of conservation of energy and momentum.
 Display care for the human body and the environment.

1. In line with the implementation of the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 (Republic Act No. 10533), the Department of Education is adopting the
enclosed Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program.
2. Classroom Assessment is an integral part of curriculum implementation. It allows the teachers to track and measure learners’ progress and to adjust
instruction accordingly. Classroom assessment informs the learners, as well as their parents and guardians, of their progress.
3. Effective School Year (SY) 2015-2016, the Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program shall be implemented in
public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.
4. Non-DepEd schools are urged to implement these policy guidelines as well. Non-DepEd schools are permitted to modify these policy guidelines according
to their school’s Philosophy, Vision, and Mission with the approval of the appropriate DepEd Regional Office.
5. Special programs may further issue supplementary guidelines in relation to the program’s specific assessment concerns.
6. These guidelines will remain in force and in effect for the duration of the program, unless sooner repealed, amended, or rescinded. All existing Orders and
Memoranda that are inconsistent with this Order are rescinded.
7. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.

1. The Policy Guidelines on Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program issued through DepEd Order (DO) No. 8, s. 2015 shall be
implemented effective School Year (SY) 2015-2016. However, clarifications have been made as follows:
a. All provisions on classroom assessment and the grading system in the said Order shall be in effect for all grade levels, including Grades 5 and 6 which are
still implementing the Basic Education Curriculum (BEC); and
b. Learners who have incurred failures in not more than two subjects prior to the effectivity of DO 8, s. 2015 may be promoted to the next grade level;
however, they should be provided with learning opportunities for the School Year (SY) 2015-2016 to catch up or make progress on the specific
competencies of the subjects they failed.
2. These guidelines shall remain in force and in effect for the duration of the program, unless sooner repealed, amended, or rescinded. All existing Orders and
Memoranda which are inconsistent with this DO are rescinded.
3. Immediate dissemination of and strict compliance with this Order is directed.
