Sir/ Madam,

Sub : Proposal for conducting Flying Aircraft making Workshop –reg : Dt : 26 Nov 2014

It is proposed to conduct a Remote controlled Aircraft / Hover craft/ Boat De-

sign ,fabrication and flying workshop in your esteemed institution , The following topics covered in
our work shop .

TOPICS

Session 1

 Introduction to Aero modeling

 Discussion of Goals of Workshop
 A brief introduction about modeling airplanes: static and flying models
 Explore Different categories: Free Flight, Powered Flight, Control Line and Radio Controlling
Flying
 Basic Components of an Aero model: Fuselage, Wings, Radio Control, ESC, Receiver, Servo
motors, servo controlling, etc.

Session 2

 Getting your hands dirty

 Construction of 40 cm Glider from different materials: Balsa wood or Styrofoam
 Fuselage Designing techniques and calculations
 Concept of C.G. and C.P in an Aero-model
 Graph plotting and calculations about wing span, tail span, ruder, ailerons and fuselage of the
complete Aero-model on graph paper.

Session 3

 An introduction to Flight
 What makes planes fly?
 Overview of Flight control Surfaces
 Four Basic forces of flight
 Basic Terminologies
 How planes can Maneuver
Session 4

 An introduction to Gliders
 What are Gliders? How do they glide?
 Understanding the wings and its importance
 Types of wings construction
 Basic Glider Design: What goes where?

Session 5

 Servo Motors
 What are servos? Where are these used
 How to control a servo motor: PWM technique
 Installation of the servos in Aeromodels: ruder, ailerons and tail
 Controlling the Ailerons, Ruder and Throttle of the glider plane using servo motors

Session 6

 Design a glider with given constraints and Guidelines

 Discuss the designs
 Cutting techniques for Styrofoam
 Cutting the Design from Styrofoam
 Sanding and Smoothing Techniques
 Putting it all together
 Concepts of Balance and center of gravity (CG) affecting the flight

Session 7

 About Radio Controlling

 Introduction to Radio Transmitter and Receiver (FUTABA/JR)
 2.4 GHz. Technology
 Programming the remote: concept of dual rate
 Controlling the Glider Plane with Radio Transmitter (range from 1 km to 2 km in air)
Finally, Demonstration of RC Flying would be given to all the students participating the workshop.
