F1 – Address I mark

F2 – Salutation 1 mark

F3 –Closing 1 mark

Content : Award 1 mark for each point and 1 mark for elaboration/example.

C1 - Do not walk alone


C2 - Avoid dark and lonely places
C3 - Do not carry a lot of money

C4 - Avoid wearing excessive jewellery

C5- Keep wallet in front pocket

C6- Sling handbag in front

C7- Avoid getting lifts from strangers

C8- Scream for help when attacked

• Hardly any mistake in grammar (including spelling and punctuation)
19 – 20 • Effective use of varied sentence structures.
• Wide vocabulary is used appropriately.
Excellent
• Paragraphs are well-planned, have unity and well-linked.
• Interest of reader is aroused and sustained throughout.
• The tone is appropriate – formal yet polite.

• Language is almost always accurate.


• Few mistakes are found in complex structures.
B
• Wide vocabulary is used.
16 – 18 • Paragraphs show some unity and are linked. .
• Interest of reader is aroused and sustained throughout most of the

• Vocabulary is limited. Punctuation is sometimes incorrect.
Unsatisfactory • Paragraphs do not show unity. Links are incorrectly used.
• Tone may be irrelevant for a speech.

• Meaning is fairly clear.


• Errors are frequent and serious- mainly SWEs.
U (i) • Only a few sentences are used accurately.
• Vocabulary is very limited. Spelling errors are frequent.

• Award ‘1’ mark if some sense can be obtained.
0–1 • Award ‘0’ mark if the speech makes no sense at all from beginning to

B • Sentence structures show variety of type and length.
• Wide vocabulary is used.
38 – 43 • Paragraphs are well-planned, have unity and appropriately
linked.
Good • Writing is relevant to the topic.
• Interest of reader is aroused and sustained most of the time.
C • Language is largely accurate.
• Some mistakes in grammar but meaning is clear.
32 - 37 • Tendency to use one type of sentence structure gives
monotonous effect.
Satisfactory
• Vocabulary is wide but lacks precision.
• Writing is relevant but lack originality.

Weak • May not fulfill required length.

U (iii) • Almost entirely impossible to read (unrecognizable as English).
