This report contains results from the June 2018 Cattle on Feed Survey collected during the first two weeks of
June. Data provided by Oklahoma and Texas producers are the foundation of the estimates made for the
Southern Plains region. We would like to thank all producers who responded to the survey. Results from the next
monthly survey will be made available on July 20, 2018.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in Texas feedlots with capacity of 1,000 head or more totaled
2.73 million head on June 1, 2018, up 3 percent from a year ago. Producers placed 570 thousand head in
commercial feedlots during May, down 11 percent from a year ago. Texas commercial feeders marketed
460 thousand head during May, up 5 percent from 2017.

On June 1, there were 2.39 million head of cattle and calves on feed in the Northern High Plains, 87 percent of
the state's total. The number on feed across the area was up 2 percent from last year and up 4 percent from the
May 1 total. May placements in the Northern High Plains totaled 499 thousand head, up 51 percent from the
April total. Marketings were up 3 percent from last month at 395 thousand head.

Cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in Oklahoma feedlots with capacity of 1,000 head or more totaled
315 thousand head on June 1, 2018, down 5 percent from a year ago. Producers placed 70 thousand head in
commercial feedlots during May, down 13 percent from a year ago. Oklahoma commercial feeders marketed
64 thousand head during May, up 10 percent from 2017. Other disappearance during May totaled 1 thousand
head, down 1,000 head from a year ago.
