Financial Data Quality Management

Oracle Hyperion FDM is a packaged application for Financial Data movement from any data source to any Hyperion
application (Enterprise, HFM, Essbase, Planning, etc.)

Six steps comprise the basic FDM process:

1. Import source data.


2. Validate source data against mapping tables.
3. Export source data to target system.
4. Consolidate target system data.
5. Validate target system data.
6. Review and validate internal financial control.

Managing Applications:

Applications are managed by using the New Application screen and Open Application Screen.

From these screens, you can add, modify, and remove applications.

To create FDM applications:

Go to Desktop --> FDM --> Workbench --> workbench client.

o From Application, Select <New Application>


o Enter Username and Password of the administrator of the new application.
o Click ok.

o The new application dialogue box is displayed and features two tabs-General and Database.
o Enter the appropriate information on the General tab.

The General tab is used to create the application, and defines where the application architecture is
stored.
Name -- >Name of the application. May contain up to twenty alpha numeric characters. Do not use
spaces. Underscores are applicable.
Enter the Description of the application.
Path--Define the file path where the new application is created

o Select the Database tab and input the required information.


The Database tab is used to define the properties of the RDBMS database that stores the FDM transaction
data.
OLEDB Provider--Specify the database used by the application i.e., SQLOLEDB. Oracle is also supported.
Database Server--The location of the database used by the FDM application. This option is visible only
when the OLEDB Provider is set to SQLOLEDB.
Database Name--The database name (typically same as the application name).This option is only available
when OLEDB Provider is set to SQLOLEDB.

Select ‘use Windows Integrated Security;


o Click Ok.

Integrate with Target Application:

Import Target System Adaptor


Using Hyperion FDM Workbench as below:

Select fdm11x-G5-C.xml file and then click open.

A new window will appear  Select all  click OK.

Register Target System Adaptor

File  Register Adapters. New window will appear  Select fm11x-G5-C.dll file and then

Click open

Add Machine Profile :

Click on Target system adapters  Machine Profile  Right click and select Add

Machine Profile  New window will appear  Give the source , Target machine

names Click OK.

Define Custom dimensions: Select ‘Dimensions’ under ‘Target System adapters’. Give appropriate name & alias for
custom dimension.

Define Labels for Source & Target Custom dimensions: Select ‘Dimension Labels’ under ‘Target System adapters’.
Give appropriate name & alias for source & Target custom dimension.

Configuring System Settings

System Options

System options are global values that control the behavior of a FDM application.

There are three types of system options:

1. Application Settings
2. Integration Settings
3. Configuration Options
You can configure system options from both Workbench and the Web Client.

Configuring Application Settings


To access application settings:

 From Workbench: Select Tools > Application Settings.


 From the Web client: Select Administration  Application Settings.

System Code

Specifies the target system that you integrate with FDM. There must be a target system code for each target
system integration adapter used. One FDM application can be associated to an unlimited number of target
applications.

Configuring Integration Settings

Integration setting determines the levels of integration between FDM and the target system and control which integration
points are active, the type of integration processes to run, and default values relating to integration actions.

To access integration settings:

Open the Integration Settings dialog box.

 From Workbench—Select Tools > Integration Settings.


 From the Web client—Select Administration > Integration Settings.

From Options, select an integration setting.

Select the option settings. The option settings are located on the bottom half of the Integration Settings dialog box.

Give the name of the HFM application and clicks save.

Point of View Bar

 Hyperion FDM User Name: The user name of the user currently logged onto Hyperion FDM
 Hyperion FDM Application: The Hyperion FDM application that is currently open
 Hyperion FDM Location: The Hyperion FDM location that is currently active
 Hyperion FDM Period: Indicates the Hyperion FDM period that is currently active
 Hyperion FDM Category: Shows which Hyperion FDM category is currently active
 Target Category: Indicates the target system category associated with the active Hyperion FDM category.
 Global/Local Mode: Shows the current Hyperion FDM mode. Usually, only administrators have rights to switch to
Local mode. Local mode allows an administrator to change the Hyperion FDM period and category without
changing the POV for all other users
 System Lock Status: Shows the status of the system lock. Administrators have the ability to lock Hyperion FDM to
prevent users from working within Hyperion FDM Adaptor shows which adaptor is being used for the current
location

Add Categories:

Select ‘Categories’ from dropdown list under ’Control Table’. Click ‘Add’ Define Categories  click ‘Update Grid’.

Add Periods:
Select ‘Periods’ from dropdown list under ’Control Table’. Click ‘Add’ Define Periods  click ‘Update Grid’.

Add Locations:

If you are adding groups you can select ‘Control reviews’ from dropdown list ‘Location Type’.

If you are loading data from FDM to HFM, you can select ‘Data Load’ from dropdown list ‘Location

Type’.

Import Formats

Go to Metadata Import Formats  Give appropriate name for Import Group (Ex: Format1)  click ‘Update Grid’.

In below window click Add  Give the format, how the data will come Update Grid.

If the entity column is not given in the data source file, we can take it from the POV using RES.PstrLoc.

Apply Attributes:

Go to ‘Meta data’  Locations  Select Import Format group name (Ex: Format1) from drop down list ‘Import Format’
from Workflow Behaviors tab.

Validate the mapping:

If any of the account, ICP, Entity or Custom dimension members are not mapped properly then validate will fail

(It shows white fish instead of orange). Another window (Undefined members list) will appear.

Double click on the row under undefined window Another screen will appear  Now select target member.

 Update Grid. Repeat the same process for any other unmapped members.

Now click Validate again.

Export mapped file to target system:


Click Export  Click OK. In this step data will export from target (FDM) to source (HFM).

Check Reports

Validation Entities:

Metadata  Validation Entities  Click ‘Add’ under ‘Validation Entity Group’  Give name (Ex: E1_Val)

 Update Grid. In the below window click add  Enter parent name (Ex: APAC)  Enter the Entity name

 Click Consolidate  Enter StrPeriod as ‘1’, Type ‘All’, Click ‘On Report’ option  Update Grid.

Validation Rules:

Metadata  Validation Rules  Click ‘Add’ under ‘Validate Group’  Click ‘Update Grid’.

In the below window click add. There four format codes.

1. # Title (Will be displayed only in the beginning of the report)

2. # Sub Title (Can we write headings any where in the report)

3. # Mode list (Sets the report to display the data value, description and amount column value)

4. # Mode rule (Evaluates each expression of the rule logic column & tests the True/false condition.
The status of each rule (OK or ERROR) is displayed in the report)
