Monthly Podcast Project

Directions: You will create a podcast this month. You will be broadcasting for The
Lions’ Lair. Your job will be to communicate to parents, PTA members, and the school
what is happening in 6th grade. You and your group mates are responsible for
communicating the following topics:

1. Academic News (Science, SS, Reading, & Writing)

2. Fun Facts & Trivia (about 6th grade /curriculum)

3. 6th Grade Events (service learning, volunteering, outside of school activities)

Other topics may be incorporated into the podcast including:

1. Important Dates (upcoming events, local community events)

2. News Flash! (Any late breaking school news)

3. W.W.W. (websites to check out, TV shows that link to learning to watch, local
curricular events

4. Any other areas you and your group would like to propose to Ms. Ryan

Group members must have a speaking role in the podcast. Each group member must
write their own script for his or her segment(s) of the podcast. All scripts must receive
a final edit by Ms. Ryan. Groups must determine the order of their segments, and
music that will play during the segments.

8. Don’t forget to introduce yourselves (first name only) either at the beginning of
your segment, or at the end of the entire podcast.
9. End the podcast with, “Thanks for tuning into 6th grade- See you next month”

4. I practiced reading with inflection for my group 2 or more times.

Once you have completed the above requirements, in the computer lab:

1. Sit with your group in the computer lab

2. Have one person open GarageBand

3. Click on Podcast

4. Save cast as The Lions’ Lair- _______(Your Month here!)

5. Click create

6. Click on (male or female) voice track.

7. Click on Control and uncheck Metronome.

8. When you are prepared to begin your script: click on the record button (big red dot)

9. Begin reading your script

10. When you are finished reading/recording click on the space bar or click the play button
again to stop the podcast from recording.

11. When the next person in your group is ready to read their script they should click on
the record button, and begin speaking.

12. This process will continue until everyone in your group has read his or her script.

The Lions’ Lair Podcast


Directions:

You and your group are going to create a podcast for The Lions’ Lair. Your podcast
should include music and certain topics including: Academic News, Fun facts and
Trivia, and 6th Grade events. All members should contribute equally. This means that
all members should write a script, present at least one segment and select theme
music.

Step 1: Based on your segment you should thoroughly address your topic. Each
member is responsible for providing a script for one or more of the following segments.
Each segment should consist of, at least, one paragraph of at least 5-6 sentences.

1. Academic News (Science, SS, Reading, & Writing)

2. Fun Facts & Trivia (about 6th grade /curriculum)

3. 6th Grade Events (service learning, volunteering, outside of school activities)

4. Important Dates (upcoming events, local community events

5. News Flash! (Any late breaking school news)

6. W.W.W. (websites to check out, TV shows that link to learning to watch, local
curricular events

Step 2: After you have completed researching and writing your script for your segment:
1. Sit with your group in the computer lab
2. Have one person open GarageBand
3. Click on Podcast
4. Save cast as The Lions’ Lair- (month)
5. Click create
6. Click on (male or female) voice track.
7. Click on Control – make sure the metronome is NOT checked.
8. When you are prepared to read your script: click on the record button (big red dot)
9. Begin reading your script
10. When you are finished reading/recording click on the space bar or click the play button
again to stop the podcast from recording.
11. When the next person in your group is ready to read their script they should click on
the record button, and begin speaking.
12. This process will continue until everyone in your group has read his or her script.
Step 3: Share (export) your podcast:
1. Click on the Share Tab
2. Click on Export Song to Disk
3. Click on AAC Encoder
4. Click Export
