WORD STRESS

Stress – the emphasis a speaker place on a specific syllable in a word.


– involves pitch (voice is raised high); force (voice is loud); and duration (voice in long)

Syllable – a unit of pronunciation having one vowel sound, with or without surrounding consonants,
forming the whole or a part of a word

Symbols of the 3 Kinds of Stress
