PNC PROCESS

The PNC has announced that their first choice has verbally accepted the invitation to
become pastor of Hill U.P. Church. I want to outline for you the next steps in the process.

The candidate will be presented to the Beaver-Butler Presbytery meeting on July 24,
2018 at the New Sewickley Church in Ellwood City. The candidate’s statement of faith
will be read after which there will be an opportunity for questions from the floor about
the statement. The candidate will be excused, after which the Presbytery will have
discussion about what they have heard, followed by a vote (yay or nay) for or against the
candidate (this meeting is open to the public and several people are planning to attend but
only our 2 official commissioners may vote).

When the vote is “yay” a date will be set for the candidate to come to the church on a
Sunday morning; to preach and conduct worship, after which a congregational meeting
(called two weeks in advance) will be held to vote for or against the candidate. When the
vote is positive the results will be sent to the Presbytery Committee, for their agreement
with the congregation.

All those things being in place this candidate will be presented to the September
Presbytery Meeting where they will ratify the acceptance by the congregation and the
committee, approve the terms of call, and set a date (probably around mid October) for
the pastorate to officially begin.

An installation service will be held, usually 3 to 4 weeks into the starting time where
the Presbytery will officially install the pastor.

Nothing should ever be considered a forgone conclusion, but, at this point, I

personally do not see any potential glitches.

So, in these next 2 /1/2 months let us keep our “prayer covenant” going, for the
candidate, the PNC, and the Presbytery, and for the “rapidly aging” interim pastor, as
well.

May God bless this church in all of its important ministry and mission, and all the
work as you and I conclude this transition time.

Sincerely,
Bill Jackson

Interim Pastor II

The evening of June 13th was a beautiful one, with 109 guests coming out to
enjoy Community Dinner. On the menu was beef or ham barbecue, fruit
salad, baked beans, coleslaw, and cake. Sadly, Dick and Maxine Beisheim
announced that they could no longer serve as co-chairs of this committee. We
thank them for the gift of their time and talents to this important ministry.

Presbyterian Women want to thank each of you who contributed the beautiful baby
clothing to our Layette Sundays. Just to let you know there were 25 little girl outfits and 26
little boy outfits. Also, we received 11 baby quilts (mostly from the Hill Quilters), 7 knitted
blankets, 13 receiving blankets, and 3 blanket sets. Also contributed were 2 packages of crib
sheets, 15 sets of burp cloths and wash cloths, and 3 packages of baby wipes. There were
also 5 knitted caps, 2 packages of socks, 2 pair of little shoes, a box of diapers, a cute little
snuggle toy, and 3 packages of pacifiers. What a wonderful response! We appreciate your
generosity! On May 25th everything was taken to Lifeline. Those folks were so very
grateful for such a wonderful and beautiful contribution.

Dr. Barry Dawson and Shelly Dawson who had been Mission Co-Workers in Southeast Asia
and had been supported by Hill Church until their service expired earlier this year are headed
for a new position. The Dawsons will go to Bonn, Germany on June 30th where Barry will
become Senior Pastor for the International Church of Bonn, Germany. It is a three year
term. Following their arrival, Barry expects it will take 30 days to get settled due to
government work regulations. On June 14th, Barry had a second cataract operation and
expects healing to be swift and similar to the surgery a few weeks prior. Shelly is doing
well. She is on no medication and will continue to get lung scans every nine months at Sloan
-Kettering Hospital. The Dawsons will have a joy in that daughter, Bethany, who now resides
in Seoul, South Korea, and is currently touring Europe with two friends, will be able to be in
Bonn with her parents for a few day shortly after their arrival. The Dawsons express their
thanks for prayers and financial support from the Hill Church over the past several years.

GHANA MISSION TASK FORCE REPORT

The Bubiashie Congregation sent us an invitation to celebrate with

them, their 50th anniversary as a church. See the invitation on the
following page. We sent a response declining this opportunity to celebrate with them in
person. But, please remember this parish and their milestone in your prayers.

Hill Church was represented in a meeting at Old Union Presbyterian Church where Ruth
Brown, a newly appointed mission co-worker to Ghana spoke. She was based in the Congo
these past few years. Ruth is a community health facilitator and will be assigned to Northern
Ghana. Her mode of transportation will be a motor bike to maneuver the ultra-bumpy and pot
bunker hole roads.

Exciting things are happening in Ghana. We hope to discover more.

PRAYER CONCERNS CONTINUE

Please continue to keep the Bubiashie District Churchs, Bernard Daddy, chairperson of the
Bubiashie Scholarship Committee, as well as the students, and Joshua Heikkila, the West
Africa Liaison for the PC(USA), in your prayers. Also for Dr. McWilson ‘Koku’ Atakro, the
Executive Presbyter and Moderator for the West Volta Presbytery.
