The Importance of Ethic and Morality in Improving Employee Work Effectiveness at


Sentani District Office in Jayapura Regency

There are three definitions of ethic: (1) Ethic is values and norms of morality
respected by individual or group of individuals to be the regulator of their behavior, and this
position is populary known as “value system”; (2) Ethic is a set of principles or values of
morality, and this position is usually called as “ethic code”; and (3) Ethic is a science that
may have good or bad impact, and this position gives ethic a term “moral philosophy”.
Office based ethic must be respected to avoid bad prejudice which implies negative
impact on other employee. In this case, ethic gives one an orientation in how to walk properly
through the life of work at the office. Ethic helps employee to take a proper action and
attitude in playing the roles to produce good communication and better behavior at work.
Research problem is formulated as: “The Importance of Ethic and Morality in
Improving Employee Work Effectiveness at Sentani District Office in Jayapura Regency?”
The objective of research includes (1) to understand the importance of ethic and morality at
Sentani District Office in Jayapura Regency, (2) to acknowledge employee work
effectiveness at Sentani District Office in Jayapura Regency, and (3) to comprehend the
relationship between ethic and morality in improving employee work effectiveness at Sentani
District Office in Jayapura Regency.
This research uses qualitative descriptive approach. This approach helps the author to
provide a systematic, factual, and accurate description about facts and characteristics of
population in certain region. The sample includes 24 respondents of employees at Sentani
District Office in Jayapura Regency.
Result of research shows several findings. (a) Ethic and morality at Sentani District
Office in Jayapura Regency are understood by measuring them with indicators such as
compliance with work rules, cooperation, and responsibility. The measurement indicates that
both ethic and morality are good already. It is also proved by the result of data recapitulation
on variable of ethic and morality which shows means rate of 84%. (b) Employee work
effectiveness at Sentani District Office in Jayapura Regency is measured by indicators such
as work quality, work efficiency, and work achievement, and it is said that work effectiveness
is already good. It is confirmed by result of data recapitulation on variable of work
effectiveness which indicates means rate of 87%. (c) There is a relationship between ethic
and morality in improving employee work effectiveness at Sentani District Office in Jayapura
Regency.
