Politically, the Nevado Huascaran is located in the western mountain range of the
Peruvian Andes, in the provinces of Yungay and Carhuaz, within the Ancash
region, in the orographic sector called Cordillera Blanca within the reserved zone
of the Huascarán National Park. It has two peaks, the north or north, at 6,655
meters above sea level, and the south or south, at 6,768. It is subject to climbs
and excursions, especially in the lagoons of Llanganuco. Since 1975, it has been
part of the Huascarán National Park.
To begin with, we can say that in the last decades we are living a global problem
which is the Global Warming that affects our Patrimonies, snowy and of course
to us. A study by the Environmental Institute of Stockholm with support from the
UN Environment Program (UNEP), revealed that many of the natural and cultural
sites of the planet, known as world heritage sites, are threatened by the negative
effects of the warming of the environment. Earth.
In the last 54 years (between 1962 and 2016) Huascarán has experienced a
reduction of its white area of 18.7 km2 (from 65.6 km2 to 46.9 km2). The loss
of the Nevado Huascaran can affect the livelihoods of the local population, a drop
in the economy of the department and increase poverty
Finally, the slow, but constant melting of the glaciers of our country has not yet
generated a national crisis in Peru, but it would not be long for it. This is what a
report warns about the implications of climate change produced by Northwestern
University, United States.
