Lesson idea implementation:
The teacher will start the lesson with the following question: “Have you ever wondered how much of
something you had?” After leading a short discussion, the teacher will show the PowerPoint video. After the
video, the teacher will explain how it can be easy to figure out how much of something there is by how
objects are arranged. Students will be given a number 1-20 and will use a resource provided by the teacher
(number cubes) to figure out a way to arrange the number so they know what it is by looking at it.
Students will be divided into groups. They will explore different arrangements of their choice that help
them subitize objects. The students will present their arrangement by selecting a delivery mode of their
choice.
Reflective Practice:
To move this activity to a LoTi level 5, the teacher could publish the students’ arrangements to the
classroom website. The final products could also be shared with different classes to help give them ideas of
different arrangements of how many.
