How The world Mankind were Created

Before the Earth, there was Chaos—shapeless nothingness and confusion. Two children
came from Chaos: Night and Erebus.

In Greek mythology, Chaos or Khaos is the primeval state of existence from which the first
gods appeared. In other words, the dark void of space. It is made from a mixture of what the
Ancient Greeks considered the four elements: earth, air, water and fire.. Chaos was the
nothingness out of which the first objects of existence appeared.

Then, Lovecame into being.Love brought forth order and beauty...banishing the confusion of
Chaos.

Then, Love had Light and Day. Then, the earth was created, but the Greeks didn’t try to
explain how it happened. The first 2 creatures were Mother Earth (Gaea ) and Father
Heaven (Uranus). They were monsters—human-looking and nonhuman at the same
time.They had overwhelming strength.

In Greek legend, goddess Gaea (earth) had come out of Chaos, the great void of emptiness
within the universe. She gave birth to Uranus (Heaven,Sky), Pontus (Sea) and Ourea
(Mountains) without a mate. Uranus, the first ruler of the Universe, the eldest son of Gaea,
was also her husband.

Gaea and Uranus had 3 groups of children: Monsters

▪ 3 GIANTS had 50 heads anD 100hands.

▪ 3 Cyclopses.

 12 Titans
Gaea gave birth to twelve Titans, the females were Mnemosyne, Tethys, Theia, Phoebe,
Rhea, and Themis and the males were Oceanus, Hyperion, Coeus, Cronus, Crius, and Iapetus
and then to the three Giants, who were of great size and might, each of them having a
hundred hands and fifty heads. Uranus hated his terrible offspring, and used to hide them
away in a secret place of earth (Tartarus) as soon as each was born. Uranus rejoiced in his
evil doing. Thereafter Gaea gave birth to the Cyclopes , who are known for having one eye on
their foreheads. Though they were strong like gods, Uranus, repeating his previous deed,
bound them and cast them into Tartarus, a gloomy place in the Underworld.

Uranus drew the enmity of Gaea when he imprisoned her children the Hecatonchires and
Cyclopes in Tartarus. Gaea created a great stone sickle and gathered together male Titans
to persuade them to castrate Uranus. Only Cronus was willing to do the deed, so Gaea gave
him the sickle. When Uranus came to have intercourse with Gaea at night, Hyperion, Crius,
Coeus and Iapetus were posted at the four corners of the earth. They seized hold of their
father and held him fast while Cronus castrated him with a sickle. After cutting off his
father's genitals, Cronus throw them into the sea behind his back( according to some
versions in Cape Drepanum in Achaea)

Having dethroned their father, the Titans brought up their brethren from Tartarus, and
gave the rule to Cronus, who wedded his sister Rhea.

However, once in power, Cronus turned into the terrible king his father Uranus had been,
re-imprisoning his siblings the Hecatonchires and Cyclopes in Tartarus and swallowing each
of his children whole as they were born from his sister-wife Rhea ( fearing to be overthrown
by his offsprings). Rhea, however, managed to hide her youngest child Zeus, by tricking
Cronus into swallowing a rock wrapped in a blanket instead.

However, when the baby (Zeus) was born, Rhea hid him away and tricked Cronus by
having him swallow a boulder.

Rhea brought Zeus to a cave in Crete, where he was raised by Amalthea. Upon reaching
adulthood, he masqueraded as Cronus' cupbearer.

Zeus , released his brothers and sisters, and started the war between the Titans and the
Gods.

After freeing his siblings, Zeus led them in rebellion against the Titans. Began of TITANS
WAR....................

Zeus was victorious. He was now the leader of the universe.

The world was now ready for people. Now that there were no more monsters, it was time
for people to be created.
The job of creating creatures on earth went to a pair of Titan brothers: Prometheus and
Epimetheus.

The job of creating creatures on earth went to a pair of Titan brothers: Prometheus and
Epimetheus. Epimetheus created animals, but he gave all survival skills to them, leaving
nothing to give to humans. To correct his bother’s mistake, Prometheus gave humans some
survival help: He made humans stand/walk upright, like the gods. He gave humans the
sacred fire: Good for safety, warmth ,and cooking. The fire could be the “spark” of intellect,
meaning Prometheus gave humans a more intelligent brain than the other animals.

In another story, the gods created people, but they did so in a number of attempts:

Gold—perfect beings

Silver—low intelligence...spirits didn’t even live on after death

Brass/bronze—terrible, strong, and violent

Age of Heroes—time of heroes and adventure

Iron—current age now...time of evil and sorrow...Zeus is supposed to destroy them.

Zeus created women

Because he was angry with

Prometheus. Why? Prometheus stole
the sacred fire to give to humans.

Had deviously presented the sacrifice

in such a manner that presented Zeus
chose the portion that looked more
appealing when in fact it was just
bones in a tempting manner. Outraged at this mockery, Zeus decided to take revenge and
get even with Prometheus. Zeus charged Hephaestus, the god of smiths and master of
crafts, with creating a dazzlingly beautiful woman, one that would appear irresistible to
either god or man.

To accomplish this feat Aphrodite, the goddess of love, posed as a model for the creation of
the statue. The woman was molded of earth and water and once the body was ready, the
Four Winds breathed life into it. She was then given gifts from all the Olympian gods.
Aphrodite gave to her unparalleled beauty, grace and desire. Hermes, the messenger god,
gave her a cunning, deceitful mind and a crafty tongue. Athena clothed her and taught her
to be deft with her hands. Poseidon bestowed on her a pearl necklace that would prevent
her from drowning. Apollo taught her to play the lyre and to sing. Zeus gave her a foolish,
mischievous and idle nature and last but not least, Hera gave her the wiliest gift, curiosity.

Thus, the first mortal woman was born and she descended down to earth. Her name was
Pandora, meaning all-gifted, implying all the gifts she had received from gods.

Along with her, Hermes gave a gilded and intricately carved box, a gift from Zeus with an
explicit warning that she must never open it, come what may. Draped in raiment fit for
the gods, she was presented to Epimetheus, Prometheus' half-brother.

Epimetheus had been told by his brother never to accept any gift from Zeus. Prometheus
was well aware that Zeus was still angry with him for his effrontery at the gathering and
would try to get his revenge. However, one look at Pandora was all it took for Epimetheus to
fall in crazy love with her and marry her without thought or consideration. He was truly
enchanted with her.

Every time, she was reminding herself that she had vowed never to open the box. Hera's
gift of curiosity had worked and one day, unable to take it any more, she decided to have
just a brief look inside. When nobody was around, she fitted a golden key hanging around
her neck to the lock on the box. Turning the key slowly, she unlocked the box and lifted
the lid only for a while. Before she knew it, there was a hissing sound and a horrible odor
permeated the air around her. Terrified, she slammed
the lid down but it was too late.

In some myths, she causes problems because she is

evil. In other myths, she causes evil because of her
curiosity. The box gaves to her was holding all the evils
(or all the good things of life), and she was told not to
open it. She opened it, releasing all the evils into the
world (orall the good things about life escaped). She
shut it, trapping hope in the box.

Then, Zeus punished Prometheus by chaining him to a mountain. Daily, a bird of prey eats
Prometheus’ liver.

This punishment was also a form of torture for information. Prometheus knew the name of
Zeus’ child who would overthrow him.
Zeus flooded the earth to destroy
mankind.

It rained for 9 days and 9 nights.

Prometheus knew the rain was coming,

so he told his son, Deucalion, to build
some kind of boat.

Deucalion and Pyrrha were the only survivors. When they came upon land, they heard
voiced say, “Cast aside the bones of your mother.” Figuring out that this message meant to
throw rocks, they created people in this way. Each stone grew into a person. This is how
they repopulated the land.
