1. A load of 1.

5KN, resting on an inclined rough plane, can be moved up the plane by a force
of 2KN applied horizontally or by a force 1.25 KN applied parallel to the Plane. Find the
inclination of plane and coefficient of friction.
2. A ladder 5m long rests on a horizontal ground and leans against a smooth vertical wall at
an angle 700 with the horizontal. The weight of the ladder is 900N and acts at the middle.
The ladder is at the point of sliding, when a man is weighing 750 N stands on a rung 1.5m
from the bottom of the ladder. Calculate the coefficient of friction between the ladder and
the floor.
3. Two bodies of 9Kg and 13.5 Kg are suspended on two ends of a string passing over a
pulley of radius 275mm and moment of inertia 16.5 Kgm2 as shown in fig. Determine the
tensions in the strings and the angular acceleration of the pulley.

4. Two blocks A and B are plaed on inclined planes as shown in figure. The block A weighs
1000N. Determine minimum weight of the block B for maintaining the equilibrium of the
system. Assume that the blocks are connected by an inextensible string passing over a
frictionless pulley. Coefficient of friction µAbetween the block A and the plane is 0.25.
Assume the same value for µB.
5. A wagon of mass 3000Kg is pushed along the rails with a constant force of 500N. If the
resistance due to friction is 125 N, determine the time taken to reach a speed of 6m/s using
i) principle of impulse and momentum ii) Newton’s second law iii) Principle of work and
energy iv) comments about the three methods.
