A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 3

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. Identify the parts of the plant and it’s function;
b. Label the parts of the plant; and
c. Appreciate the importance of plants to our life.

(Reading of the text)

- The Roots hold the plant


to the soil. They absorb or
get water and minerals
from the soil. They store
or keep the extra food
made by the plant.
- What part of the plant can
be seen on the ground? -Roots.
- Why do roots seen below
the ground? -Because they absorbs water with
dissolved minerals from the soil.
- Do all plants have roots? -Yes.
- What are the other works
of the roots? -They hold the plant to the soil.

- The Stem holds the


leaves, flowers and fruits
of the plant. They give
passageway of water and
minerals to go up from
the roots to the leaves
and other parts of the
plants.
- What part of the plant
holds the leaves, flowers
and fruits? -The stem.
- Do all plants have Stem? -Yes.
- What is the main work of
the stem? -They bring water and dissolved
minerals from the roots to the
leaves.

- The Leaves make the
food for the plant. The
leaves are the most
important part of the
plant. Without green
leaves, a plant cannot
make food for its growth.
- What do you call the part
of the plant where it
makes its own food? -Leaves.
- What is needed to make
food for its growth? -Green leaves.

- The Flowers are the most


attractive part of a plant.
They have different
colors and odors. The
flower helps the plant to
make seeds.

surrounding attractive
and beautiful? -Flowers.
- What is the work of the
flower? -It helps the plant to make seed.

- The Fruits holds the seed


of the plant. Some fruits
are big while others are
small. Fruits have
different shapes, too.
They differ in colors,
smell and taste. Some are
sweet while others are
sour.

plants? -Fruits.

other use of fruits? -For food.

fruits.

- I have here a problem.
Who wants to read and
answer the problem?
Mac Mac was in the
school garden. He pulled one
plant, removed the roots, leaves
and divided the stem into two
parts. Worst of all he threw it.

- If there are no plants, can


we live? -No.
- What will happen to us if
there are no plants on
earth? -We will die.
- Why? -Because there will be no food to
eat.
-There will be no beautiful
surrounding.
-There will be no fragrant flowers.
-There will be no fresh air to
inhale.

them.
