33-16-00 PB 001 - ANNUNCIATOR LIGHT

DIMMING - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION

1. General
Annunciator light dimming enables the crew to reduce annunciator light brightness on the instrument panels,
center pedestal and overhead panel.
The utilization, for the FFCC, of annunciator lights of different colors, determines various voltage levels in
DIM mode and in BRT mode, which permits the same lighting visual sensation to be obtained whatever the
annunciator light color.

3. Description
The annunciator lights comprise two 0.67W - 28 V bulbs installed in parallel.
The bright and dim modes are controlled by a three position TEST, BRT, DIM switch.
The switch controls the annunciator light dimmer.
The dimmer comprises seven power supply cards consisting of three sections :
- a voltage source which supplies the annunciator lights controlled by the +28 V.
- a voltage source which supplies the annunciator lights controlled by the ground
- a control/monitoring section.
Two other cards ensure supply and connections to the external wiring.
The annunciator light dimmer is supplied with 28 VDC by busbar 101PP through two circuit breakers located on
panel 132VU.
4. Operation
Annunciator light dimming is achieved by voltage variation at the annunciator lights. The dimmer provides this
function. The dimmer output voltage levels, therefore those supplied to the annunciator lights, are achieved by
110 Hz voltage pulses : the voltage variation is obtained by pulse with modulation (duty cycle).
The output voltages of each unit are adjustable by potentiometers installed at the electronic cards.
The possibilities of adjustment of DIM and BRT voltage level are given by the curves.
- Flowbar dimming does not depend on the position of DIM, BRT, TEST switch.
It depends on the variation of digits which are controlled by a potentiometer located on the center
pedestal.
- Dimming of the instrument panel annunciator lights when the switch is placed in DIM position is slaved
to flight compartment brightness by means of two photoresistor cells located at the Captain's and First
Officer's side of the flight compartment.
In dim or bright mode the annunciator lights are supplied through relay contacts.
The relays are located in relay box 490VU on rear panel.
The dimmer provides power supply and control of relays.
All the relay contacts are in energized position when TEST, BRT, DIM switch is in BRT or DIM position ;
except the relay contacts which supply the instrument panel annunciator lights and blue annunciator lights
which are de-energized when the switch is in BRT position.
When the switch is placed in TEST position, all the relays are deenergized.
