Magha Sun Appearance & Personality

Magha Sun is a very bright placement in that it is ruled, firstly, by the Sun itself, and, secondly, by Ketu--
which is an incredibly fierce planet. This harsh, bright, authoritative and powerful combination often fares
better for male natives, but is a favorable placement for either due to indicating positive past karmas. Leo is
the natural house of the Sun and so he is very happy here. In men especially, the Sun is able to shine in his
regal and individualistic manner; however, for a female native, the activation of the Pingala (Solar) Nadi can
make her frustrated due to the inability of suitable modes of expression in our society. Her natural inclination
(as a female) towards the Ida Nadi is disrupted and diverted into the Yang path, which does not match her
bodily constitution as suitably. This is true for all strong Solar influences on women, in other nakshatras as
well. The wonderful aspect to this placement-- that is of great benefit to women—is that they are often
granted an excellent male influence during early life. This grants a strong sense of morals and a large
amount of vitality. If we consider the teaching contained in the Mahavidya Dhumvati in regards to symmetry
and the female form, when Shakti does not receive Yang (male) energy, she becomes extremely
asymmetrical. It is for this reason that Magha sun can give great health and symmetry to the female form due
to the strong relationship with male ancestors and energy. Magha grants the female natives an unusual
amount of independence, individuality and intelligence. The activation of Solar energy gives Magha Sun a
strong tendency to have red hair, and it is otherwise very dark. The independence of these women shows in
their appearance in that they have quite a fierce, unapologetic appearance. Ketu grants them with longer,
gaunter faces and long mouths, as well as rounder eyes with light tones. The Sun grants them with oily, red
tones to the skin and pinched noses.

A Magha woman’s greatest challenge is learning to activate her Ida Nadi. The Ida Nadi is what we
associate as feminine traits because it is a state of passivity and receptivity. A woman with strong Pingala
and Solar energy may find it very difficult to find a man who is worthy of her attention, due to the capabilities
and independence that Magha Sun brings. If a suitable channel is found for their Solar energy (such as a skill
or activity) they will not feel frustrated. However, in terms of relationships, harm is sometimes created due to
the difficulty of being born into a body that is-- no matter how much Solar influence is present-- still
fundamentally much more Lunar than a male body. This, just like in the following Nakshatra of Purva
Phalguni, creates women who go after very magnetic, lunar men. Solar women pursue and “put themselves
out there” for magnetic men due to the lack of desire to receive solar energy, which they already possess.
They often feel taken advantage of due to their naturally magnanimous nature. The more Yin men then take
the energy given to them and leave. If a Magha women wishes to find marital harmony, a little Ida Nadi
activation goes a long way. When the Ida Nadi becomes activated, soma beings to drip from the crown and
bring them bliss and contentment. The cold, blissful, magnetic energy of the Ida Nadi begins activating the
magnetic center of the water element, which draws a man who is even more solar/yang than they are. This
further pushes her into the Lunar Nadi and creates deeper bliss.

Ida transforms mundane life into a kind of poetry due to the activation of the non-logical, right side of the
brain. Yang is logical, frustrated, domineering, and perpetually feeling discontent. Yang wants to dominate,
criticize, and overcome challenges. It is difficult for relationships if a female has this more than her partner,
as her body does not possess ad ability to utilize the Yang sexually, and so unconscious frustration results.
The majority of Magha Sun women usually choose more magnetic men, leaving themselves polarized
towards the solar energy. However, this often leads to discontent in the later years of a relationship due to
the natural entropy of this polarization arrangement. It is a similar situation when a male is polarized towards
the lunar and chooses an aggressive and solar predominant woman; it works, but it would be better if he
cultivated solar energy and the woman cultivated luna,r due to the intense chemistry it creates. The
chemistry we feel towards another person is generated by the Ida and Pingala activation we currently exhibit.
When a man is lunar and a woman is solar, strong initial chemistry is still felt, but it does not last because of
the sexual act pulling them in opposite directions, which nullifies the polarity eventually. If the male cultivates
solar and the woman lunar, the sexual act pushes them further and further apart creating greater and greater
sexual tension and excitement even with age.

Male natives with Magha sun usually uphold some type of ancestral or family tradition. It can be either
religious or financial/business related, but Magha Sun shows a soul that has chosen to be a conduit for the
Pitris (male ancestors), and wishes deeply to preserve and radiate the skills and energy of the family line.
These men are normally domineering and confident, possessing the fierceness of Ketu that they double with
the power of the Sun to achieve their goals and rise in social status. Because they are so focused on
tradition and conservation, they do well to protect organizations, business, religious ideologies, traditions,
laws, and morals in general. Unconsciously, these natives will drive their life based strongly on the example
set by their ancestors and leaders. They can often naturally rise above others in a social group, appearing
unafraid to make their ideas known. Magha Sun natives may unintentionally intimidate others due to the
influence of Ketu. However, since Ketu here is focused on preserving material/hierarchical structures, it is
less off-putting than in Mula. Magha natives won’t often go “against the grain” and thus do not cause social
discomfort, but rather inspire submission to social norms. These men possess narrow, squinted eyes from
the bright Sun influence. Ketu grants them with heavier skulls, larger lower face bone structure, and long
mouths.

The Cosmic Nature of Magha Nakshatra

"Magha Nakshatra is considered the head of the Leo Natural Zodiac sign. Its symbol is the throne of a
king, indicating this sign being the fixed and foundational center of material world power and royal lineage.
Cosmically, at this point we have fought the serpent within us and have begun (for the first time) actually
practicing religion of our own accord and will. Magha is the birth of exoteric religion, which can be described
as the traditions and symbols passed down through ancestry that contain (in latent form) all of the wisdom
later searched for and discovered in Mula nakshatra. Magha, despite being in the fiery sign of Leo, deals with
extremely inert/tamasic forces that are foundational to our being. In Ashlesha (the nakshatra immediately
prior) we discovered the dense potential energy acting as the glue for our being-- in many ways like our DNA
itself. Now, in Magha we find the realm of our ancestors. It is the nakshatra responsible for maintaining the
“physical vehicle” that a soul uses to reincarnate and gather experience. In other words, Magha is the
nakshatra of tradition and, therefore, is strongly opposed to all forms of change. It is here that we begin the
“Great Work” in an active sense; we actually begin expending energy towards our own salvation and
realization. Magha, being so connected to ancestors, deals with the actual Earth that we stand on—
metaphorically, the previous generations we quite literally stand on. This energy naturally gives Magha a
close relationship with the physical body, which is the gift of the ancestors to us. Naturally, maintaining the
connection with this force responsible for our physical existence is of utmost importance.

Magha is ruled by the Sun (being in Leo) and, specifically, by the planet Ketu. The Sun is that which
preserves and sustains the world and so too are we begotten by and sustained by our ancestors, those of
the past (Ketu represents the past, just as its opposing planet, Rahu, represents future). A lack of religious
practice, attention to tradition, and discipline in duty lays a faulty foundation. This harms us later and lets us
achieve only temporary success. In Magha we vaguely remember the religious stories told to us as a child in
Purnavasu, and subconsciously feel the Baptism we received in Pushya. We encounter the underbelly in
Ashlesha (through experiencing the lower cravings and desires) and focus the force to achieve the worldly
power that we now find in Magha..."Excerpt from our book, "Facial Astrology".

PLANETARY RULERS: Sun & Ketu

GEM: Cat's Eye
also considers Ketu as a planet related to the past and past lives of a native and it is believed that many good or bad
things brought to the native are as a result of his past deeds. As the past again connects with the ancestors, so it can
be concluded here that the influence of Ancestors or Pitras, Ketu and the Sun work in coherence with each other to
exhibit their common qualities through Magha.

As a result, the good or bad results rendered by this nakshatra to the native under its strong influence can be very
quick and fierce in nature which means that it can either bring great fortunes to the native under its influence or it can
bring great troubles and miseries to the same native in a very short period of time depending upon whether this
nakshatra is working positively or negatively in his horoscope.

According to the beliefs of Vedic Astrology, natives under the influence of Magha nakshatra are usually found
practicing in professions which have something to do with authority, position, power and status. Magha natives can be
found in many professional fields practicing as Heads of the Governments and the Kings, administrators, Bureaucrats,
Judges, Magistrates, Aristocrats and many other kind of people holding important positions with governments,
Politicians and diplomats possessing great power, authority and status, top class lawyers commanding authority and
many other kinds of people practicing in many other kinds of professions dealing with power, authority and status.
Some Vedic astrologers believe that the strong influence of this nakshatra in a horoscope definitely gives a position of
authority and power and this fact is very well supported by the kind of professions associated with this nakshatra. The
influence of Ketu on this nakshatra can also make the natives under the influence of Magha practice as black
magicians, tantrics, exorcists, astrologers, psychics and in other such kind of professions.

Vedic Jyotish considers Magha to be Tamasic in Gun and Rakshas in Gan which are again surprising classifications by
the ancient Vedic astrologers but the tamasic gun assigned to this nakshatra can be due to the fact that Ketu is
considered as a Tamasic planet in Indian Jyotish whereas there is again no convincing explanation available for the
Rakshas Gan assigned to this nakshatra by ancient Vedic astrologers. Element of water is assigned to this nakshatra.

Now, since this nakshatra is ruled by Ketu, these folks tend to not care about wealth, fame and status, and
since they do not chase any of these things, they get these things naturally handed to them, especially if
Sun, Jupiter, Moon or Rahu are placed in this nakshatra.
