Narrative Report on the GBES 2018 Brigada Eskwela Kick-Off Parade and Opening Program

In line with the DepEd Memorandum No. 66, s. 2018, the 2018 Brigada Eskwela Week opens
at May 28, 2018 and runs until June 2, 2018. Brigada Eskwela, also known as the “National Schools
Maintenance Week,” captures the spirit of bayanihan among the people of the community in the
modern era. Being one with DepEd in its goal of providing a well-prepared, safe and secure school,
GBES gave utmost attention and effort into assuring a successful Brigada Eskwela – all for the vision
of giving pupils a brighter future.

The GBES Brigada Eskwela kicked off at exactly 7:00 AM on May 28, 2018 at the GBES School
Grounds, headed by the School Principal Cleta F. Saladero and the 2018 Brigada Coordinator MK
Peollo. The procession was led by SPG Officers carrying the official BE tarpaulin. Closely behind them
were the Brgy. GB I personnel and van, ensuring the safety of the volunteers and other motorists.
They were followed by the Barkadahan Bikers Club of San Mateo, Bureau of Jail Management and
Penology San Mateo jail guards and officers, Shakey’s delivery staff, GBES Drum & Lyre Corps.,
teachers from Kinder to Grade 6, Sangguniang Kabataan ng San Mateo, and the GPTA, 4Ps parents
and pupils. They marched the streets of GB I from the GBES School Grounds, all the way to Sta.
Cecilia Subd., Nawasa, Kambal Road, Gen. Luna, M.H. Del Pilar and back to the school – all for the
cause of promoting modern bayanihan through joining the 2018 Brigada Eskwela.

Upon arrival back to GBES, the volunteers were guided and assisted throughout the
registration and accommodation at the GBES Covered Court. At 8:00 AM, the masters of ceremony,
Mr. Calixto A. Suganob and Mrs. Joe Ann V. Vicente, officially started the 2018 BE Opening Program.
The participants all rose to sing the National Anthem, conducted by Mrs. Fe S. Ordas, followed by the
prayer led by Pastora Flordeliza Samson.

With enthusiasm and gratefulness, the School Principal Cleta F. Saladero welcomed the
guests, volunteers, teachers and everyone present. Then, Mrs. Fe S. Ordas presented the volunteers
and stakeholders. Next, to entertain the audience, GBES Dancers and the Zumba Fighters Club
performed energetic dance numbers.

To give inspirational messages, outgoing Brgy. GB I Chairwoman Hon. Delia S. Bautista,

incoming Brgy. GB I Hon. Chairman Jomer A. Cruz, and Pastora Flordeliza Samson went up the stage.
Then, School Facilities / SDRRM Coordinator Earl Jhon N. Bautista presented the assessment of
physical facilities and maintenance needs of the school and the Brigada Eskwela School Work Plan.
This was followed by the giving of updates on the donations and pledges already received by the
school presented by 2018 BE Coordinator MK Peollo. Next was the explanation of the mechanics of
implementation and daily tasks to be accomplished by the BE Committee Partners.

The opening program ended with the introduction of the Grade Level BE Coordinators who
would be in charge of grouping the volunteers and delegating specific tasks. Upon the end of the
opening program, Brigada Eskwela volunteers immediately began working together towards making
the school a better place for the pupils.
