Fire Resistance Assemblies: PABCO® Gypsum is proud to list hundreds of UL fire tested assemblies shown on the opposite page. All of
these assemblies are UL approved, and allow the use of one or more PABCO® products available from our
extensive range of gypsum board product line. Each assembly is tested within a controlled laboratory setting,
and receives individual engineering evaluations. The following design selection pages present a relative small
fraction of the available approved assemblies. Individual designs are prefaced with a brief description and
summary. The complete design, and updated information, may be found in the Underwriter Laboratories
(UL) Fire Resistant Directory (www.ul.com), the Gypsum Association’s “Fire Resistance Design Manual”
(GA-600) (www.gyspum.org), or by contacting PABCO® Gypsum Technical Services.
PABCO® Gypsum type X products bear the UL Classification Mark and are covered by UL’s classification
and Follow-Up Service.
The facing page is a cross reference of appropriate PABCO® Gypsum panel products to use for different
UL fire-resistive Designs.
Although the systems are arranged herein (as well as the GA-600) in general groupings (i.e. walls and
interior partitions, floor-ceilings, roof-ceilings, etc.), the listing of a system in a specific category is not
intended to limit its use to that category. However, this shall not be interpreted to imply that vertical
systems, such as walls and partitions, are permitted to arbitrarily be used in a horizontal orientation.1
Notes pertaining to design • Spacing of stud, joist, or trusses are maximum for fire rating
listings: • Size of the studs are minimum
• Metal studs and runners are nominal 25 gage unless otherwise specified
• Metal studs and runners greater than specified as tested shall be permitted, however STC ratings may
be negatively effected
Fire Resistance Ratings: Underwriters Laboratories (UL), ASTM, and numerous building codes use fire-resistant ratings as
a measure of fire-containment for varying types of building construction assemblies. In respect to
buildings, the fire resistance rating classifies the ability of an assembly to confine and isolate fire within
a zone comprised of fire resistance rated walls, ceiling and floor assemblies. These fire-resistance rated
assemblies are tested, certified and listed in the directories of accredited Fire Testing Laboratories. The
most up-to-date information is available at the fire testing laboratory website or from PABCO® Gypsum
Technical Services.
For more information: • Refer to Underwriters Laboratories (UL) Fire Resistance Directory at www.ul.com.
• Refer to the Gypsum Association Fire Resistance Design Manual, publication GA-600.
