NOMBRE O SUSTANTIVO
La definición más simple que se puede dar al nombre o sustantivo es una palabra que puede
representar tanto una persona como una cosa o como un lugar. Ejemplos:
En general los nombres ingleses no hacen distinción entre masculino, femenino, neutro. No
obstante a veces el género se indica con diferentes nombres o palabras cuando hablamos de
personas y animales.

La mayoría de los nombres se refieren a roles y profesiones que pueden utilizarse tanto con un
sujeto masculino como con un femenino, por ejemplo: cousin, teenager, teacher, doctor,

NOMBRES CONTABLES: Los nombres contables se refieren a cosas que podemos contar
utilizando números. Pueden .Los nombres contables pueden ser en singular o plural. En singular
pueden llevar el articulo indefinido a / an en donde sea necesario. Para preguntar sobre la
cantidad de una cantidad contable usamos “how many.

EJEMPLOS:
Los nombres incontables se refieren a cosas que no podemos contar. Pueden identificar ideas o
cualidades abstractas y objetos físicos que son demasiados pequeños o amorfos que no
podemos contar (líquidos, sustancias, gases). Los nombres incontables llevan el verbo en
singular de manera general.

No podemos usar a / an con estos nombres. Para expresar una cantidad de un nombre
incontable usamos palabras o expresiones como : some, a lot of, much, a bit of, a great deal
of, o unidades de medida como : a cup of, a bag of, 1 kg of, 1 l of, a hand full of, a pinch of,
an hour of, a day of. Para preguntar sobre la cantidad de una cantidad incontable usamos
“how much”

Los pronombres de objeto sustituyen a nombres que funcionan como complementos directos
o indirectos.

Los pronombres posesivos sustituyen frases nominales con sentido posesivo que funciona
como sujeto o complemento de una oración.

3. COMPLETA ADJETIVOS POSESIVOS Y PRONOMBRES POSESIVOS.
LOS VERBOS
Los verbos son palabras que indican acciones, existencia (ser/estar), posesión (tener) o ánimo.
En inglés usamos la preposición “to” antes del verbo para indicar el infinitivo por ejemplo: to
talk (hablar), to eat (comer), to change (cambiar), etc.
Los verbos en la oración son lo más importante. Hay muchos tipos de verbos. El verbo puede
indicar la acción principal (el verbo principal). Un verbo auxiliar añade detalle a la acción o ayuda
al verbo principal (también se llaman verbos complementarios). Los verbos modales añaden
modalidad (posibilidad, capacidad, permiso, prohibición, obligación, etc.). Los verbos transitivos
conectan un sujeto con un objeto. Otros verbos solo necesitan un sujeto (verbos intransitivos).
Hay verbos que están compuestos de más de una palabra (verbos preposicionales y verbos
frasales). Los verbos pueden ser activos o pasivos.
Además de los muchos tipos y usos de los verbos, necesitamos conjugar los verbos. La
conjugación depende del sujeto y del tiempo. Algunos de los verbos más comunes en inglés:

Hay tres verbos importantes en inglés que se pueden usar como verbos principales o verbos
auxiliares: to be , to have y to do. Dependiendo del uso el significado cambia pero la
conjugación es siempre la misma.
TO BE (SER/ESTAR)
El verbo significa “tener” cuando lo usamos como verbo principal y significa “haber” cuando se
usa como verbo auxiliar. Es un verbo irregular.
TO DO (HACER)
Este verbo significa “hacer” cuando lo usamos como verbo principal. No hay traducción directa
cuando lo usamos como verbo auxiliar. Este verbo auxiliar es necesario para construir las frases
interrogativas y negativas del tiempo presente simple cuando lo usamos como verbo auxiliar.

LOS ADVERBIOS
Un adverbio que acompaña al verbo para modificar su significado también puede modificar a
los adjetivos, a los nombres o también a otros adverbios.
Ejemplo:
Quickly es un adverbio de modo que modifica al verbo to speak para expresar como habla
ella.
REGLAS GRAMATICALES –
1.- La regla para formar adverbios es añadir la terminación “-ly” a un adjetivo, que equivale en
castellano a la terminación “mente”

FUNTION OF ADVERBS
Como hemos visto, los adverbios nos dicen algo sobre una persona, una cosa, un lugar, etc. Los
adverbios por otro lado nos dicen algo sobre el modo de hacer una acción. Estas palabras
modifican a los adjetivos, los verbos o a otros adverbios.

EL ADJETIVO
Un adjetivo es una palabra que acompaña y modifica al nombre. Puede ampliar, complementar
o cuantificar su tamaño. Son palabras que nombran o indican cualidades, rasgos y propiedades
de los nombres o sustantivos a los que acompañan. Los adjetivos son aquellas palabras que se
unen a un nombre para ampliar, cuantificar su significado.

EL ARTÍCULO
Un artículo es una palabra que se usa antes de un sustantivo para mostrar si el sustantivo se
refiere a algo específico o no.
A, An y The
El artículo definido nos cuenta que el sustantivo es específico. Definido significa claro, obvio.
Ejemplos:
El artículo indefinido nos dice que el sustantivo no es específico. Los artículos indefinidos en
ingles son “a” y “an”
Ejemplos:
OJO: Usamos “a” antes de un sonido consonante Y “an” antes de un sonido vocal.

LAS CONJUNCIONES
La conjunción es una palabra que une dos palabras, grupo de palabras, frases o ideas.Conjunción
significa unir o combinar.Hay tres tipos de conjunciones. Las conjunciones coordinadas
(coordinating conjunctions), las conjunciones correlativas (correlative conjunctions), y las
conjunciones subordinales (subordinative conjunctions).
LAS CONJUNCIONES COORDINADAS: son las conjunciones que unen dos o más palabras o
grupos de palabras que cumplen una misma función en la oración. Las conjunciones coordinadas
en la oración son las siguientes:
And (y)
But (pero)
For (para)
Nor (ni)
Or (o)
Yet (aún)
Las conjunciones coordinadas pueden conectar dos o más nombres, pronombres, verbos,
adjetivos, adverbios o preposiciones. También pueden conectar dos frases que pueden
constituir por si mismas oraciones independientes. También unen dos oraciones utilizadas en
un mismo sentido o referidas a un mismo sujeto.
LAS CONJUNCIONES CORRELATIVAS: Están formadas por dos o más palabras que funcionan
como una estructura. Coordina palabras o frases que pueden tener funciones equivalentes en
la oración.
Condicionales. If (si); unless (a menos que); only if (solo sí); wether or not (si o no).
De causa o efecto: so (así), as (como), in order that (en atención a), because (porque).
De tiempo: after (después), before (antes), since (desde), while (mientras), until
(hasta).
De oposición: although (sin embargo), whereas (mientras), though (aunque), even
though (aun cuando).

LAS PREPOSICIONES
Sirven de enlace entre dos palabras o distintos elementos en la oración: I´ll see you at five
o´clock.

Generalmente, se colocan delante del sustantivo o del pronombre, excepto en los siguientes
casos:
LA PREPOSICIÓN Y LA CONTRACCIÓN
La contracción española, es decir la fusión de una preposición con un artículo definido (al, del)
no existen en inglés. Se traducen siempre por preposición seguida del artículo definido y
separado de ella (al = a - el, del = de – el):
Los escritos son un conjunto de palabras y oraciones integradas de manera lógica, relacionadas
entre sí armónicamente y en torno a una idea central. El párrafo da inicio mediante una letra
mayúscula, está integrado por una cantidad variable de renglones los mismos que están
conformados por oraciones principales y secundarias que integran el párrafo y termina con un
punto y aparte que las separa de otros párrafos dentro de un mismo texto, de manera que las
oraciones se convierten en el núcleo de los textos.
PRESENT TO-BE
El presente del verbo “to be “se utiliza para expresar a los verbos ser o estar del español
según sea el contexto.
1. I’m student
Yo soy un estudiante.
2. I’m not a doctor.
No soy un doctor.
3. Who is Laura?
El pasado del verbo to be sirve para expresar el tiempo pasado ya sea was si es para I,
he, she, it o were para you, we, they.
Horarios (Timetable):
Always = siempre.
Often = a menudo.
Usually = usualmente.
Occasionally = Ocasionalmente.
Hardly ever= pocas veces.
Never = nunca.
Every Monday = cada día.
Every week = cada semana.
Every month =cada mes.
Every year = cada año.
Once/twice/three times a
day/week = una /dos /tres veces al día/semana.
OJO: Para expresar el tiempo presente en afirmativo para HE; SHE; IT añadimos al final
del verbo:
“ES” para los verbos terminados en –S, -SS, -SH, -CH, -X, -O: go= goes, do= does,
finish=finishes
“IES” para verbos terminados en consonante más –Y: study= studies, etc

Acciones repetidas que causan disgusto (Repeated ocurrences that cause annoyance):
You´re always borrowing my cell phone!
¡Tú siempre te estas prestando mi celular!
Acciones que suceden por un periodo largo de tiempo (Action happening now or over
longer period):
Global warming is getting worse.
Ojo: no es usado para verbos de estado (stative verbs) como: believe = creer, think=pensar,
suppose=suponer, love = amar, fear= sentir miedo, etc.
Example:
She loves her pet. Not, she is loving her pet.
Algunos verbos de estado son usados en ambos tiempos pero cambia el significado, como:
PAST SIMPLE
Yesterday = ayer.
Last week = la semana pasada.
Last year = el año pasado.
Five minutes ago = hace cinco minutos.
One hour ago = hace una hora.
One year ago = hace un año.
PAST CONTINUOUS
Para dos acciones en progreso en el pasado (Two action in progress at the same time
in the past):
He was walking home when I was waiting for the bus.
Él estuvo caminando a casa cuando yo estuve esperando por el bus.
Yesterday = ayer.
As while = ya que mientras.
At the sime time = al mismo tiempo que.
FUTURE CONTINUOUS
Una acción que está en progreso en el futuro (An action that will be in progress
in the future):
I will be packing by this time tomomorrow.
Mañana Estaré empacando para ese entonces.
PRESENT PERFECT
Eventos que han finalizado pero no especifican tiempo (Finished events with no
specific time reference):
I´ve been to Italy.
Yo he estado en Italia.
Eventos que han finalizado con resultados presente (Finished events with
presents results):
I have installed the game so I can play now.
Una acción que ha sucedido varias veces en el pasado (An action that has
happened several times in the past):
We have had several concerts since we opened this theater.
Nosotros hemos tenido muchos conciertos desde que abrimos el teatro.
Just = solamente.
Already = ya
yet = todavía.
For, since, ever, never = por, desde, siempre, nunca.
This week = esta semana.
Today = hoy.
This is the first/second time that = este es el primero/ segundo que.
For ages = por años.
Ojo: No se suele utilizar con referencia de tiempo específico. (Not usually use with
specific time reference).
Example:
We arrived five minutes ago. Nosotros llegamos hace 5 minutos.
Not, we have arrived five minutes ago. Nosotros hemos llegado hace cinco minutos.
PAST PERFECT
Acciones que han tomado lugar antes de otras acciones en el pasado (Action that took place
before other actions in the past):
He had listened to the forecast before he started to walk home. Él ha escuchado el pronóstico
del tiempo antes de él empezó a caminar a casa.
Already = ya
By the time = al tiempo que.
After = después.
Before = después.
As soon as = tan pronto como.
This is the first/second time that = este es el primero/ segundo que.
For = por.
Since = desde.
FUTURE PERFECT
El future perfect se usa para expresar una acción que se completará en cierto momento
futuro (An action that will be completed at the certain future time):
I can lend you this book tomorrow, I will have finished it by then.
Una acción que comenzó en el pasado y continúa hasta el presente (an action that
started in the past and continues to the present)
I have been waiting here for you since 7 o´clock this morning.
He estado esperando por ti desde las 7 en punto de esta mañana.
Para enfatizar el tiempo de una acción que ha estado sucediendo (to emphasise the
lenght of time an action has been happening):
You have been playing that game for three hours!
Tu has estado jugando aquel juego port res horas!
I've known about her situation for two months. (I´ve= I have)
He conocido acerca de su situación por dos meses.
OJO No se utiliza por lo general con los verbos de estado (not usually used with the
stative verbs):
I´ve been knowing her situation for two months.
He estado conociendo su situación por dos meses.
Acciones que han tomado lugar antes de otras acciones en el pasado (Action that took place
before other actions in the past):
Already = ya
By the time = al tiempo que.
After = después.
Before = después.
As soon as = tan pronto como.
This is the first/second time that = este es el primero/ segundo que.
For = por.
Since = desde.
FUTURE PERFECT CONTINUOUS
Una acción que se completará en cierto momento futuro (An action that will be completed at
the certain future time):
I can lend you this book tomorrow, I will have finished it by then.
Te puedo prestar este libro mañana, lo habré terminado para entonces.
