I am Patrick James Pelicano, 26, from the Philippines. I am a graduate of Bachelor in Secondary Education
Major in English in Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo, a local college in San Pablo City, Philippines. I am
currently taking my masters degree in Educational Management also in a college in San Pablo City.
Currently, I am employed in Biñan Secondary School of Applied Academics, a public school, as a 10th grader
English teacher.

I have been teaching for six years in the Philippines and in this span of time I have met various students
with different personalities that made me a flexible educator, good in dealing with differences. I have
gone through different teaching circumstances that made me a better teacher I am now. Resourcefulness
is my great quality. Given that there is lack of facilities for teaching in the Philippines, I have managed to
bring out the lesson properly with all the materials I have provided resourcefully just to achieve the
objectives of my lesson. Also, I am computer literate that will greatly help me incorporate technologies
in my day to day teaching.

I am planning to teach in the United States for three reasons: 1. Professional Growth. I want to widen my
horizon in terms of my teaching profession. I need to get out of my comfort zone to be a better educator
that I may be in the future. 2. Gain international work experience. It is a plus factor in the Philippines for
someone who taught internationally. 3. Greener Pasture. With the small compensation that we receive in
the Philippines as a public-school teacher, the work opportunity in the USA is more encouraging given
that USA compensates teachers reciprocally on the work they do.
