THE CHAIN

El cadejo is a legendary animal from the region of Central America and Mexico that is found in rural and even urban
areas. It is said that it is a dog-like animal that appears to those who wander in the wee hours of the night. He is a big
character, strong and hairy, has great claws and is usually heard his walk.

According to the legend there are two chains, one white and one black, and symbolize good and evil respectively. White
is guardian, and black is fierce and dangerous.

The chain is the spirit that cares for the drunk at night, especially those who can barely stand. If the drunk is fortunate
enough to see the soft chaise, the good one, he will stay by his side and protect him. But it is said that if the lame man
licks the drunkard he will keep him company for days, and it will be difficult to get rid of him. At least, during the next
drunkenness, the white chain will prevent the negro from approaching him.

There are versions that say that in reality the white chain takes care of the family, wife and children, when the husband
is outside the house.

The black chain is the one that always goes behind the men who have drunk too much. There are those who say that
before the chain had been human, but some curse condemned to him to wander of that way until the end of the times.
There have been no known stories of attacks related to these entities.

What most certainly prevails is the protective sense of the chain. It is the vestige of an old belief that supposes that
every human owns an animal of company. This animal is double the man, in such a way that the disease or the death of
the first one carries the disease or the death of the second one.

At present, comparisons of the above can be made with Christian thought, which expresses that man has a guardian
angel who protects him from danger. Belief implies the existence of a companion animal for each man. That animal is
the white chain. This animal accompanies the man in all his solitary trips at night. It protects and defends against the evil

EL CADEJO

El cadejo es un animal legendario de la región de Centroamérica y México que se encuentra en zonas rurales e incluso
urbanas. Se dice que es un animal parecido al perro que se aparece a quienes deambulan a altas horas de la noche. Es
un personaje grande, fuerte y peludo, tiene grandes garras y se suele escuchar su caminado

Según la leyenda existen dos cadejos, uno blanco y otro negro, y simbolizan el bien y el mal respectivamente. El blanco
es guardián, y el negro es fiero y peligroso.

El cadejo es el espíritu que cuida a los borrachos durante la noche, sobre todo a aquellos que apenas pueden
mantenerse en pie. Si el borracho tiene la suerte de ver aparecer al cadejo blando, el bueno, éste permanecerá a su lado
protegiéndole. Pero se dice que si el cadejo lame al borracho le hará compañía durante días, y será difícil librarse de él.
Al menos, durante las siguientes borracheras el cadejo blanco evitará que el negro se le acerque.

Hay versiones que dicen que en realidad el cadejo blanco cuida de la familia, mujer e hijos, cuando el marido se
encuentra fuera de la casa.

El cadejo negro es el que siempre va detrás de los hombres que han bebido demasiado. Hay quien dice que antes el
cadejo había sido humano, pero algún maleficio le condenó a vagar de esa manera hasta el final de los tiempos. No se
han conocido historias de ataques relacionadas con estos entes.

Lo que más prevalece sin duda, es el sentido protector del cadejo. Es el vestigio de una antigua creencia que supone que
todo humano posee un animal de compañía. Este animal es el doble del hombre, de tal manera que la enfermedad o la
muerte del primero conllevan la enfermedad o la muerte del segundo.

En la actualidad, se puede establecer comparaciones de lo anterior con el pensamiento cristiano, que expresa que el
hombre tiene ángel guardián que lo protege de los peligros. La creencia supone la existencia de un animal compañero
para cada hombre. Ese animal es el cadejo blanco. Dicho animal acompaña al hombre en todos sus viajes solitarios por la
noche. Lo protege y lo defiende contra los malos espíritus encarnados en el cadejo negro, con color tenebroso que
simboliza la muerte, o sea, el mal en todas sus manifestaciones. Según dice la tradición, los dos cadejos son a cual más
fuerte. En ellos se representa la lucha entre el “bien y el mal”.

The Legend of the They shaded

La leyenda del Sombrerón

Una de las leyendas más conocidas sobre este personaje de la cultura guatemalteca y además también es muy conocida
en Aguadas, Caldas dice así: Una noche El Sombrerón caminaba en un barrio de La Antigua Guatemala cuando vio a una
muchacha muy bella con pelo largo y se enamoró de ella. Buscó su casa y le llevó serenata una y otra noche, pero ella no
le dijo nada a sus padres sobre él. Un día empezó a dejar de comer hasta el punto de que casi murió, y fue entonces
cuando la madre se dio cuenta que era por El Sombrerón.

Llevó a su hija a un convento creyendo que ahí iba a estar mejor, pero la niña siguió sin comer y un día despertó con una
trenza en su pelo hecha por el espectro y ese día murió. Luego en el velorio, apareció El Sombrerón llorando y sus
lágrimas eran como cristales. Jamas olvida a las muchachas que ha amado. También se cuenta que les hace trenzas a los
caballos y mulas... Se cuenta también que este espanto a parte de enamorar a muchachas jóvenes, gusta por cabalgar
mulas y caballos de los establos de las fincas en las noches agotándolos. Por ello, las bestias durante el día no cumplen
las tareas sumado a que se vuelven hostiles con las personas, los campesinos y finqueros al ver este comportamiento
buscan si el Sombrerón no les ha hecho trenzas en la greñas. Si es así, el animal ya no sirve para tareas.

Una forma de saber si el Sombrerón está haciendo de las suyas en fincas y casas, es colocar ya sea cerca de un balcón de
casa o cerca de los establos una silla y mesa de pino recién elaboradas, junto a aguardiente y una guitarra en noche de
luna y deben guardar silencio todas las personas, sólo así se escuchará la guitarra y los cantos del Sombrerón. Al
Sombrerón le atraen las muchachas de pelo largo y ojos grandes, por ello, cuando se sospecha que está tras una joven
se le debe cortar el pelo a esta para que el Sombrerón no se gane el alma de la joven.

la mujer fantasma que recorre las calles de las ciudades en busca de sus hijos.
Cuenta la leyenda que era una mujer de sociedad, joven y bella, que se caso con un hombre mayor, bueno,
responsable y cariñoso, que la consentía como una niña, su único defecto... que no tenia fortuna.
Pero el sabiendo que su joven mujer le gustaba alternar en la sociedad y " escalar alturas ", trabajaba sin
descanso para poder satisfacer las necesidades económicas de su esposa, la que sintiéndose consentida
despilfarraba todo lo que le daba su marido y exigiéndole cada día mas, para poder estar a la altura de sus
amigas, las que dedicaba tiempo a fiestas y constantes paseos.
Marisa López de Figueroa, tuvo varios hijos estos eran educados por la servidumbre mientras que la madre se
dedicaba a cosas triviales. Así pasaron varios años, el matrimonio.
Figueroa López, tuvo cuatro hijos y una vida difícil, por la señora de la casa, que repulsaba el hogar y nunca se
ocupo de los hijos. Pasaron los años y el marido enfermó gravemente, al poco tiempo murió, llevándose " la
llave de la despensa ", la viuda se quedó sin un centavo, y al frente de sus hijos que le pedían que comer. Por un
tiempo la señora de Figueroa comenzó a vender sus muebles. Sus alhajas con lo que la fue pasando.
Pocos eran los recursos que ya le quedaban, y al sentirse inútil para trabajar, y sin un centavo para mantener a
sus hijos, lo pensó mucho, pero un día los reunió diciéndoles que los iba a llevar de paseo al río de los pirules.
Los ishtos saltaban de alegría, ya que era la primera vez que su madre los levaba de paseo al campo. Los subió
al carruaje y salió de su casa a las voladas, como si trajera gran prisa por llegar. Llegó al río, que entonces era
caudaloso, los bajo del carro, que ella misma guiaba y fue aventando uno a uno a los pequeños, que con las
manitas le hacían señas de que se estaban ahogando.
Pero ella, tendenciosa y fría , veía como se los iba llevando la corriente, haciendo gorgoritos el agua, hasta
quedarse quieta. A sus hijos se los llevo la corriente, en ese momento ya estarían muertos . Como autómata se
retiro de el lugar, tomo el carruaje, salió como "alma que lleva el diablo ", pero los remordimientos la hicieron
regresar al lugar del crimen. Era inútil las criaturas habían pasado a mejor vida. Cuando se dio cuenta de lo que
había hecho, se tiro ella también al río y pronto se pudieron ver cuatro cadáveres de niños y el de una mujer que
flotaban en el río.
Dice la leyenda que a partir de esa fecha, a las doce de la noche, la señora Marisa venia de ultratumba a llorar su
desgracia: salía del cementerio (en donde les dieron cristiana sepultura) y cruzaba la ciudad en un carruaje,
dando alaridos y gritando ¡ Aaaaay mis hijos ¡ ¡ Donde estarán mis hijos ¡ y así hasta llegar al río de los pirules
en donde desaparecía. Todas las personas que la veían pasar a medianoche por las calles se santiguaban con
reverencia al escuchar sus gemidos y gritos. Juraban que con la luz de la luna veían su carruaje que conducía
una dama de negro que con alaridos buscaba a sus hijos.
Las mujeres cerraban las ventanas, y al trasnochador que venia con copas, hasta la borrachera se le quitaba al
ver aquel carro que conducía un espectro, donde iba la llorona, del carruaje salían grandes llamaradas y se
escuchaba una largo y triste gemido de una mujer, un esqueleto vestido de negro, el que guiaba el carruaje,
jalado por caballos briosos. Un día, cuatro amigos, haciéndose los valientes, quisieron seguir al carruaje que
corría a gran velocidad por céntrica calle de Aguascalientes que daba al río pirules.
Ellos la seguían, temblando de miedo, pero dándose valor con las copitas, dio un ultimo grito de tristeza y dolor
¡ Aaaay mis hijos ¡ y desapareció con todo y carruaje.
 THE weeping

 La Ciguanaba

La ciguanaba, según cuentan la leyenda en su origen, era una mujer llamada Sihuehuet,
cuyo nombre significa mujer hermosa. Esta mujer tenia una relación con el hijo de un Dios,
del cual quedo embarazada. Pero Sihuehuet probo no ser una buena madre, al contrario,
fue una madre que no cumplia con sus obligaciones. A parte de ser una mala madre,
Sihuehuet tenía un amante. Al descubir esto, el hijo del Dios, llamado Tlaloc, maldijo a
Sihuehuet. La maldición consiste en que la mujer sería bella de lejos pero una vez las
personas se acercaran y la vieran de cerca seria una mujer horrible. Esta leyenda continua
estando vigente, ya que, según cuentan los relatos, la ciguanaba es una mujer que parece
hermosa a primera vista pero al acercarse tiene cara de yegua o incluso de calavera. Se
dice que la ciguanaba persigue a los hombres que son infieles o trasnochadores. Siguen
contando las leyendas que la ciguanaba atrae a los hombres a barrancos o lugares
desiertos para que las personas mueran al seguirla. Otra de las versiones es que la
ciguanaba mata del susto a las personas o que, sino mueren, se vuelven locas luego de
verla.
 THE SIGUANABA

LA LEYENDA DE "LA NIÑA DE LOS OJOS ROJOS"

Los Mendoza eran una familia muy unida, así que acordaron mudarse todos juntos a un nuevo
lugar cuando el hijo mayor obtuvo una beca para la universidad. Sus recursos no eran
suficientes para conseguir algo en plena ciudad, así que algo en las afueras, les acomodó
mejor, sobre todo porque el padre conocía muy bien las labores del campo y tenía mejores
oportunidades de trabajo. La casa era muy grande, después de acomodarse, sobraron
habitaciones. El jardín se unía además con un modesto bosque, pero bastante entretenido, en
especial para los dos más pequeños de la casa, Artemio de diez y Olivia de ocho.
Los niños jugaban libremente en la arboleda, pues era fácil no perderlos de vista desde
cualquier lugar en la parte trasera de la casa. La niña era quien pasaba más horas en el
bosque, se le notaba muy ansiosa por salir al estar en casa, no quería siquiera convivir con su
familia. Además de esto, la madre notó actitudes extrañas en Olivia, pues en varias ocasiones
había sorprendido a la chiquilla, parada, inmóvil, aparentemente muy concentrada y haciendo
ademanes propios de una conversación, sin embargo, no había frente a ella alguien con quien
platicar. A veces corría entre los árboles, mirando de un lado al otro, como si intentara atrapar
a alguien.
A pesar del incomodo comportamiento de Olivia, la familia no estaba alerta, hasta que el hijo
mayor llegó de una fiesta, pasada la media noche. Entró a la casa muy agitado, gritando como
loco, no pudo decir lo que ocurría, simplemente llevó a sus padres junto a la ventana,
señalando un punto en el bosque, donde podían verse dos puntos rojos, prestando mayor
atención se notaba claramente que eran un par de ojos, ardiendo con mayor intensidad que el
fuego. Por momentos se apagaban súbitamente, y aparecían en otro lugar entre los árboles.
Nadie dijo nada del tema, estaban seguros que no se trataba de algún animal, habían pasado
mucho tiempo entre ellos, y sabían perfectamente que sus ojos brillan en la oscuridad, no
arden como el fuego. La primera precaución fue prohibirle a Olivia que jugara entre los
árboles, también empezaron la construcción de una cerca, apenas oscurecía se encerraban
bien en casa, mientras padre e hijo se turnaban en la ventana, haciendo guardia
acompañados de una escopeta. Durante varias noches estuvieron invadidos de nervios, pues
aquel par de antorchas encendidas, se mantenían fijas hacia ellos, los observaba también,
vigilaba, transmitiendo desde la distancia, un miedo incontrolable que les hacía gritar apenas
les llegaba el sueño.
El hijo no pudo soportar en un momento la presión, disparó hacia su acechador esperando
que un par de balas acabaran con aquel sufrimiento, los demás miembros de la familia se
levantaron y fueron hacia la estancia para saber que pasaba, solo que Olivia no estaba con
ellos, intentaban ir a buscarla, peroles interrumpieron los gritos de Artemio en la puerta
trasera, usando un tono que causaba escalofríos, él estaba viendo como algo se arrastraba
desde el bosque, chillando, retorciéndose, mostrando sus ojos de fuego intermitentes. El
asombro no pudo ser mayor, cuando vieron que la criatura culpable de tanto miedo, no era
otra más que Olivia, la más pequeña de su familia, quien ahora agonizaba frente a ellos.

EL AMATE

Mi madre siempre me cuenta de los mitos y leyendas de Guatemala. La leyenda del árbol de Amate no fue
una excepción. Según me contó, las noches de cada viernes en este árbol se aparecía el diablo, dejando
siempre un olor a azufre. Las personas que sabían de dicho acontecimiento se acercaban al árbol para
invocarlo y hacerle alguna petición o una brujería. Tal fue el caso de un joven ambicioso que siempre quería
tener más de lo que podía.

Un día alguien le dijo a este joven que fuera al árbol de amate, que allí se aparecía el diablo y que le
concedería todo lo que él le pidiera. Sin dudar, un sábado por la noche el joven se decidió ir al Amate e
invocar al diablo llamándolo tres veces, el chamuco se le apareció y le preguntó qué quería, a lo que el joven
respondió: dinero y mujeres. El chamuco le dijo que le daría todo lo que deseaba con la única condición de
que fuera a visitarlo todos los viernes a las 9 de la noche. El joven aceptó y desde entonces empezó a tener
mucho dinero y las mujeres lo buscaban.

Al pasar el tiempo el joven empezó a sentir un profundo arrepentimiento, por lo que ya no quiso ir más a ver al
diablo, se dice que el diablo empezó a aparecérsele por todas partes, así que él recurrió a un fraile de San
Francisco, y aunque el fraile logro curarlo, el joven quedo loco para siempre.

El árbol de amate, fue sembrado en 1779, en la unión de vías, que en aquellos tiempos se conocía como ''Las
Cinco Calles'', y lo que hoy en día los guatemaltecos conocen como ''Plaza el Amate''.
 THE AMATE

The tree of amate, was planted in 1779, in the junction of roads, that at that time was known like
"The Five Streets", and what today the Guatemalans know like "Place the Amate".

LA NIÑA DEL DIA DE FIMNADOS

Según la tradición oral de Guatemala, desde el siglo XIX, en el atrio de la catedral de la ciudad

capital sucede un misterioso evento que se repite año con año. Se aparece una niña vestida de negro, de

aspecto frágil y delicada figura. Todo el que cruza su mirada con la de ella, puede percibir en sus ojos una
profunda angustia.Se le ve también antes del último toque de las campanas para la misa de las seis de la

tarde, en la puerta principal de la iglesia de San Sebastián. Hay quienes aseguran que esta mujer es

vista también para la tradicional visita de sagrarios en Semana Santa.

Es un misterio para todos el descubrir rastros que revelen la identidad de esta mujer hasta que llega el día en

que ella decide tener un acercamiento con la persona que ha seguido sus pasos para pedirle un favor. A
cambio, ella entrega siempre una cadena de oro y un trozo de papel en el que está escrita la dirección de su

domicilio para poder retribuir el favor que le han hecho.

Según la leyenda, quienes han llegado al lugar de la dirección que se les proporciona, se han vuelto locos al

descubrir que su domicilio es el cementerio general de Guatemala y que el aniversario de su muerte se

celebra el día de los difuntos.

THE GIRL OF THE FIMNADO DAY

La mujer encadenada!!!

Cuando el director de la Casa de la Cultura de esta ciudad de Celaya, de los años sesentas, Prof. D. Rogelio
Zarsoza y Alarcón, tuvo la necesidad de ocupar la Casa del Diezmo, con motivo de las mejoras que se
realizarían en el Ex-Convento de San Agustín, fue testigo, así como varios de los alumnos de dicha Casa de
la Cultura, de un hecho insólito que motivo mucha inquietud entre la grey estudiantil y algunos maestros de
dicho instituto.
Al realizarse el cambio no se interrumpieron las enseñanzas que se transmitían en la Casa de la Cultura,
aunque sí tuvieron que vencer algunos problemas como el que presentaba el patio mal encementado y en
donde tenían que ensayar de los bailes clásicos o regionales cuya enseñanza impartida el propio maestro
Zarsoza y Alarcón.
Varias veces los jóvenes realizaban sus ensayos en el patio de la Casa del Diezmo y el área elegida era parte
noroeste que fuera del Marqués de Villa Mayor, que ya hemos dicho, fue uno de los encomendaderos de la
región; y la casa es una de las primeras construcciones que se hicieron en Celaya.
Un día, sin nadie esperarlo, uno de los alumnos más aventajados en la especialidad ya mencionada, cayo
como fulminado por un rayo y quedo desmayado para recuperarse después de un buen rato.
A la semana siguiente nadie se acordó del incidente, pues se le encontró la explicación lógica que tal vez él
joven no habría desayunado o cualquier otra cosa que lo indispuso y la casa continuo como siempre.
Pero para sorpresa de todos, volvió a suceder lo mismo, y entonces el señor Zarsosa empezó a estar
incomodo por la interrupción de la clase.
Llamo al alumno y le dijo que necesitaba que fuera a ver a un médico porque él no quería tener la
responsabilidad de que le fuera a pasar algo peor en sus prácticas.
El alumno cumplió con el encargo y entrego el certificado médico al maestro quién comprobó que el joven no
tenía ningún mal que le impidiera hacer ejercicio.
Pero en el tercer ensayo volvió a suceder lo mismo, en el mismo lugar y con los mismos síntomas, sólo que
en esta ocasión el alumno entró en trance y empezó a describir una horripilante escena y decía que veía una
joven que estaba encadenada y con marcadas señas de haber sido duramente golpeada y que se le veía en
el rostro un hondo sufrimiento... etcétera.
Lo anterior alarmó mucho al maestro y sabedor de lo que el poeta y literario Prof. Herminio Martinez tenia
hondos conocimientos de parapsicología, quiso que personalmente investigara al muchacho y verificando una
prueba especial, entre testigos de calidad, el profesor Martínez comprobó que todo lo que se decía era
verdad; que el estudiante no era ningún charlatán y aconsejo que en la capital de la República podía encontrar
personas estudiosas en ese tipo de fenómenos, que gente que desconoce tildan de charlatanería.
El joven, según propias palabras del poeta laureado Prof. Herminio Martinez, actualmente se encuentra en
México dentro de un grupo de estudiosos de parapsicología y según informes obtenidos, ha demostrado su
gran capacidad de médium que es muy estimada y respetada por quienes conocen de esas complejas
actividades, o fenómenos paranormales.

LA ,MUÑECA OKIKU

Cuando estas muñecas combinan las maldiciones con los espíritus, asumen un nivel totalmente

distinto de lo sobrenatural. Hay muchas muñecas supuestamente malditas o embrujadas en todo

el mundo, lo pudimos comprobar con el “Muñeco Robert”, “Annabelle” o en la “Isla de las

Muñecas”, pero quizás uno de los casos más extraños es la de una muñeca de Japón, poseída

por un espíritu y con un pelo que no para de crecer.

La muñeca poseída Okiku

La historia de la conocida muñeca Okiku comenzó en 1918, cuando un joven de 17 años llamado

Eikichi Suzuki compró una muñeca a su hermana Kikuko, de 2 años, como recuerdo durante su

visita a la exposición marina de Saporro, en la isla japonesa de Hokkaidō. La muñeca media

unos 40 cm de alto y vestía con un kimono tradicional japonés. Sus ojos parecían perlas

negras dentro de una cara blanca de porcelana hiperrealista, y con un pelo negro hasta el

hombro de corte tradicional. Eikichi inmediatamente supo que esa muñeca era para su hermana

y cuando la vio la compró de inmediato.

Y así fue, la niña disfrutaba con su nueva muñeca, y jugaba con ella todos los días, incluso le

puso un nombre, Okiku. Los dos eran inseparables, iban juntas a todas partes hasta que la

tragedia llegó a la familia. La pequeña de la casa se puso muy enferma y murió al poco tiempo

debido a complicaciones con la gripe y la fiebre. En memoria de su pequeña hija, la familia

colocó su amada muñeca Okiku en un altar.

LA, OKIKU DOLL

La leyenda del carruaje de la muerte queda plasmada en el siguiente cuento

Después de un largo y arduo día de trabajo en el campo, Mario se dirigía a su casa en la ciudad. Ya casi

amigo también le compartió lo que contaba la gente al respecto. “Dicen que por las noches se escuchaba a

un carruaje ir a toda velocidad y que iba recogiendo a la gente que moría, era conocido como El Carruaje

de la Muerte”.

Mario no se quedó tranquilo y junto con su amigo decidieron esperar esa noche, al carruaje y así confirmar si

los rumores eran ciertos. Se encontraban en parque bajo la noche fría y solitaria cuando comenzaron a

escuchar el sonido de un carruaje. Poco a poco pudieron verlo, cada vez más cerca. Y en efecto, se trataba

de un carruaje negro, tirado por caballos negros y con un conductor vestido completamente de negro.

Cuando por fin el carruaje estaba frente a ellos, el conductor los observó fijamente y ambos hombres se

desmayaron. A la mañana siguiente, despertaron de frío y desde entonces, tanto Mario como su amigo, se

esconden donde pueden cada vez que escuchan el sonido de un carruaje, sobre todo por las noches.
