DDDM Paper

Dara McAllister

Looking at the test scores is a great way to tell how the students are doing. My college

has told me that 80.6 mean is good enough to go on but about half the class got below a 80% on

the test. I do not agree with the colleague. Half the class does not understand what they are

doing. I see this as a problem.

I would give the students a second test. This second test I would give as a group test. I

would put the students that struggled on the test with the students that did not struggle as much.

I would give the groups the same tests to the students. This way I could see if they understand

it if they talk it out with each other.

Before giving the test again, I would reteach volume and the perimeter and area. Those

are the two sections that every student struggled with. Very few students scored above an 80%

on perimeter and area. The mean for that section 64%. The mean for the volume is a 78%. The

length and weight are both above 90%. That tells me that there are some concepts missed on the

first two sections that need to be addresses.

I would like to know how the students did on their homework. If they understood the

questions on the homework that they did not do so well on the final, you can ask different

questions to sere if that makes a difference. If they were not doing good on the homework, then

they were not ready for the final in the first place. I would also like to see how they work on

problems as a team. Do they do better as a group or do they do worst. I also would like to know

if they do better talking out loud.

I do think that the information that has be collected is good information. It does tell you

what the students struggled with and what they succeed with. When it is broken down, it really

shows what the students struggle with. Once the scores got broken down it shows really what

was understood and what wasn’t. It is important to collect data so that you can help the students.
