Holiday Homework Class-IV


Session - (2018-19)

English
The holiday homework is planned under 3 segments for Primary and Middle School -
 Section 1-Understanding Sustainable Development Goals to develop insight for global issues
 Section 2 -Reading Project to encourage reading habits and improve language
 Section 3- Mathematical and reasoning activities to enhance thinking ability

The necessary guidelines are given in the beginning of each section.


Section -1 (Understanding SDGs)
Introduction to SDGs-
The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Agenda includes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
to be achieved by 2030. Children who are in school now will grow up to be adults in an increasingly
interconnected and multicultural society .The SDGs are universal goals for everyone, and are inherently global
in nature. Learning about these initiatives helps students develop insight into issues faced around the world.
Section -2
Reading Project to encourage reading habits and improve language
Guidelines for Schools -
Reading Project :
 The document contains names of 5 to 6 authors/books for each class.
 They will read the book during summer break.
 A scrap book/ chart paper/ /collage/Art work/painting with pictures can be prepared based on theme,
setting, characterization/ author.
 Students will write a book review under the following sub headings
 Synopsis/Theme
 My favourite character and why I liked it (character traits as web chart )
 How I liked the end and beginning
 Suggest another ending /any Character I would like to change.
 New words learnt and looked up in the dictionary.(at least 20 words with synonyms)
 How many days I took to complete the book.

Pl Note: This worksheet contains few logical and reasoning problems which will require the child to think.
Parents should only act as facilitator and allow child to think and reason on his/her own to bring out solution.

vertically, or diagonally.
 The highest and smallest numbers are clearly
marked.
 Some numbers are already printed on the grid.
 It's said that every puzzle has a unique solution.

Confession Box: Have you ever lied? Have you ever wronged someone? Have you ever hurt anyone? Have you
ever….There are so many things we do many a times that are morally wrong. What happened after that? When did you
feel you have done something wrong? How did you feel about it? Share your emotions and feelings in a special column
‘Confessions’ coming up shortly in The Global Times. What did you learn from the overall experience? (Word Limit
100-200 words)

Or My Best Friend: Friendship can have happen anywhere and anytime. Share your story of how you made your best
friend. How you met her/him for the first time. What is it that you like the most about her/him? How similar or different
s/he is from you? Do you share the same likes and beliefs? Etc. Also attach your photograph with your best friend and
your message for her/him. (Word Limit 150-250 words)
