WHY SERVE?

In fact, God has placed me in a particular place and church in order that I might be edified (built up)
so that I might work for and serve Him. To remain inactive is to neglect God’s very purpose for our
salvation. By serving, I behave like Jesus and glorify Him.

SERVANTHOOD
Matthew 20:26-28
….whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants
to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to
serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

COMMANDED TO SERVE
Joshua 22:5
5 But be very careful to keep the commandment and the law that Moses the servant of

the LORD gave you: to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, to keep his
commands, to hold fast to him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

IT GLORIFIES GOD
1 Peter 4:10-11
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of
God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the
very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so
that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power
for ever and ever. Amen.

2 Corinthians 9:11
11 You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through
us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God

INCREASES FAITH
Ephesians 2 Made Alive in Christ
2 As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, 2 in which you used to live when you
followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at
work in those who are disobedient. 3 All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the
cravings of our flesh[a] and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature
deserving of wrath. 4 But because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, 5 made us
alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions—it is by grace you have been
saved. 6 And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ
Jesus, 7 in order that in the coming ages he might show the incomparable riches of his grace,
expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus. 8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can
boast. 10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God
prepared in advance for us to do.

BLESSINGS TO ONESELF AND OTHERS

It brings blessings to myself and in turn what I do brings blessings to others.
Hebrews 6:10
10 God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you

have helped his people and continue to help them.

Proverbs 19:17
17 Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will reward them for what they have
done.

IT IS USING OUR GIFTS

1 Peter 4: 10-11
10 Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful
stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, they should do so as one
who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God
provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and
the power for ever and ever. Amen.

THE LABORERS ARE FEW

Luke 10:2
He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord
of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Serving is a form of worship, a way to express

gratitude for what Jesus has done for us, and to share
the love and grace we've been given.
