All four samples were low for the labeled PFPrOPrA internal standard due to matrix
related effects. The affected target analytes for these samples are PFPrOPrA (GenX)
and NaDONA. Additionally, the Influent sample (collected 5-22-2018) was low for the
labeled d3-MeFOSAA internal standard. The affected target analytes for this sample
are PFDA, PFUdA, N-MeFOSAA, N-EtFOSAA, PFDS, PFDoA, PFTrDA, PFTeDA,
PFHxDA and PFODA. Where internal standards are low, target analytes quantitate
higher than they actually appear in the sample extract (if detected).
Results for selected analytes were taken from secondary dilutions of the sample
extracts in order to bring the results within the calibration range or to reduce the impact
of matrix effects. The affected values were flagged "D" on the results tables.
A laboratory method blank was prepared and analyzed with the sample batch as part of
our routine quality control procedures. The results show the blanks were free of the
target perfluorinated compounds at the reporting limits. This indicates that the sample
processing procedures did not significantly contribute to the analyte content determined
for the sample material.
Laboratory spike samples were also prepared with the sample batch using clean
reference matrix that had been fortified with native standards. The results show that the
spiked native compounds in the laboratory spikes were recovered at 82-124%, with
relative percent differences of 1-8%. These results were within the method limits.
It should be noted that Pace Analytical has not yet completed the certification process

The Effluent sample and its lab assigned duplicate exhibited high recoveries for the
labeled d3-MeFOSAA internal standard due to matrix related effects. The affected
target analytes for this sample are PFDA, PFUdA, N-MeFOSAA, N-EtFOSAA, PFDS,
PFDoA, PFTrDA, PFTeDA, PFHxDA and PFODA. Since these analytes were not
detected, and since this internal standard ran high, the sample results are considered
acceptable. The Duplicate sample (not the lab assigned duplicate) had a low recovery
for the labeled PFPrOPrA internal standard. The affected target analytes for these
samples are PFPrOPrA (GenX) and NaDONA. Where internal standards are low,
analytes quantitate higher than they actually appear in the sample extract (if detected).

DISCUSSION
This report presents the results from the analyses performed on sixteen water samples
and one lab duplicate submitted by a representative of Pace Analytical-Grand Rapids.
The samples were analyzed for the presence or absence of twenty-one perfluorinated
compounds using a modified version of USEPA Method 537. Reporting limits were set
to the quantitation limits. Both field blanks were reported because quantities of the
target analytes were found in other samples.
Due to matrix effects some surrogates failed. The Textile Systems and D&D
Amalgamated samples failed on the surrogates labeled PFDA and d5_EtFOSAA. The
Aluminum Finishing and Arvco samples failed on the surrogate labeled PFDA. The
Graphics Packaging sample failed on the surrogete labeld PFHxA. The Bell's Brewery
and Pfizer samples failed on the surrogates labeled PFHAxA and PFDA. For those
samples that had failing surrogates, the related target analytes could also be biased
low.
For the samples Textile Systems, Textile Systems duplicate, Aluminum Finshing,
Wright Coating, Graphics Packaging, Bell's Brewery, Pfizer and Cork Street Landfill
MDS the labeled PFPrOPrA internal standard was low due to matrix related effects.
The affected target analytes for these samples are PFPrOPrA (GenX) and NaDONA.
Additionally, for the Aluminum Finishing sample the labeled d3-MeFOSAA internal
standard was low. The affected target analytes for this sample are PFDA, PFUdA,
N-MeFOSAA, N-EtFOSAA, PFDS, PFDoA, PFTrDA, PFTeDA, PFHxDA and PFODA.
Where internal standards are low, analytes quantitate significantly higher than they
actually appear in the sample extract (if detected).
Results for selected analytes were taken from secondary dilutions of the sample
extracts in order to bring the results within the calibration range. The affected values
were flagged "D" on the results tables. Many of the samples had to be diluted and
rerun to minimize matrix effects. Where target analytes are reported from a dilution -
they are also flagged "D".
A laboratory method blank was prepared and analyzed with each sample batch as part
of our routine quality control procedures. The results show the blanks to be free of the
target perfluorinated compounds at the reporting limits. This indicates that the sample
Laboratory spike samples were also prepared with each sample batch using clean
reference matrix that had been fortified with native standards. The results show that
the spiked native compounds in the laboratory spikes were recovered at 73-117%, with
relative percent differences of 1-23%. These results were within the method limits. A
third lab spike was analyzed with each batch and included in the above summary.
It should be noted that Pace Analytical has not yet completed the certification process
for all analytes in this method. Therfore, the results have been marked "N2" as
qualified. Results for the low level spikes that were below the calibration range were
flagged "J".

Due to matrix effects some surrogates failed. The Stryker sample and Stryker sample
duplicate failed on the surrogete labeld PFHxA. The Kepco sample failed on the
surrogate labeled d5_EtFOSAA and on the surrogete labeld PFHxA. All Surrogates
failed for the WKW Extrusion sample. The Allnex sample failed on the surrogate
labeled PFDA. The KMF sample failed on the surrogate labeled PFDA and the
surrogate labeled d5_EtFOSAA. For those samples that had failing surrogates, the
related target analytes could also be biased low.
For the sample Allnex the labeled d3-MeFOSAA internal standard was low due to
matrix related effects. The affected target analytes for this sample are PFBA, PFPeA,
PFBS, PFHxA, PFHpA, PFHxS and PFOA. Similarly, for the sample WKW Extrusion
the labeled PFPrOPrA internal standard was low. The affected target analytes for this
sample are PFPrOPrA (GenX) and NaDONA.
This indicates that the sample
processing procedures did not significantly contribute to the analyte content determined
for the sample material.
It should be noted that Pace Analytical has not yet completed the certification process
for all analytes in this method. Therfore, the results have been marked "N2" as
qualified. Results for the low level spikes that were below the calibration range were
flagged "J".

Due to matrix effects all of the surrogates failed for the Lawrence and Kzoo Tech
Furniture samples. Similarly for the Kalsec sample the surrogates labeled PFHxA and
d5-EtFOSSA failed. These results indicate that some target analytes levels in these
samples could be biased due to matrix effects.
For the sample Kalsec the labeled PFPrOPrA and PFOA internal standards were low
due to matrix related effects. Similarly, for the sample Kzoo Tech Furniture the labeled
PFPrOPrA internal standard was low. For the sample MR-1 the labeled PFOS internal
standard was low.
The PFPrOPrA internal standard effects the target analyte levels for PFPrOPrA (GenX)
and NaDONA. The PFOA internal standard affects the target analyte levels for PFBA,
PFPeA, PFBS, PFHxA, PFHpA, PFHxS and PFOA. The PFOS internal standard
affects the target analyte levels for PFNA and PFOS. When internal standards are low,
analytes quantitate significantly higher than they actually appear in the sample extract
(if detected).
Some of the samples had to be diluted and re-analyzed to minimize matrix effects.
Where target analytes are reported from a dilution - they are flagged "D".
A laboratory method blank was prepared and analyzed with each sample batch as part
of our routine quality control procedures. The results show the blanks to be free of the
target perfluorinated compounds at the reporting limits. This indicates that the sample
processing procedures did not significantly contribute to the analyte content determined
for the sample material.
Laboratory spike samples were also prepared with the sample batch using clean
reference matrix that had been fortified with native standards. The results show that the
In one of the lab spikes NaDONA recovery was above the method limit (flagged "R")
and is also responsible for the high point in the relative percent difference range.
Although this recovery is high it does not invalidate NaDona results since NaDONA was
not detected in the samples. All other results were within the method limit. A third lab
spike was analyzed and included in the above summary.
It should be noted that Pace Analytical has not yet completed the certification process
for all analytes in this method. Therefore, the results have been marked "N2" as
qualified. Results for the low level spikes that were below the calibration range were
flagged "J".
