He was one of the best known artists from the Dutch Golden Age. Seven of his works are still in Dutch museums. His works are eulogized for their brilliant use of light, careful composition, and transparent colors. He used a technique called pointill to create those transparent colors. The article says, “His paintings cover all layers of society, at one time portraying a simple milkmaid at work, at other times works show the luxury and splendor of rich notables and merchantmen in their roomy houses.” Most of his paintings take place inside of a house such as A Lady Writing and The Geographer. A few hundred years after his death, a person named Han van Meegeren was a painter who painted in classic style. To prove others he was stupendous, he started off by forging a Vermeer. Then, he iterated the process, and started producing more and more just for the money he would get. This entirely messed up the history of Vermeer paintings. This baffled the art world when they found out. Because of Meegren’s bad choices, it has made it arduous to deduce the diversity between a “true” Vermeer painting and a fake works of art contributed to him.
