EFFECT OF FATHER’S EDUCATION ON CHILD’S NUTRITIONAL

STATUS IN KABUH, JOMBANG EAST OF JAVA

BACKGROUND
Malnutrition is still a problem in Indonesia. Among the various determinant facors of nutritional status in
children, parent`s education is the next probably more important after the social economic status. The
relationship between the level of mother`s educational and the children`s nutritional status is well
documented but the relationship in the father`s educational level is still rarely reported.

OBJECTIVE
To determine the association between level of father`s education and children`s nutritional status

METHODS
A cross sectional study are conducted in conjunction with the National Health Day (Hari Kesehatan
Nasional or HKN) festival on preschool age children held by principal of sub-district of Kabuh, a rural
area in Jombang county. Body weight and height are measured, then nutritional status was determined
by Waterlow’s criteria, and for whose are BW more than 110% of ideal body weight then body mass
index (BMI) is calculated, and plotted to BMI for age CDC chart according to each gender. Education of
the father was recorded and grouped by: elementary school, junior high school, senior high school and
university. Association was examined using Pearson chi square and relative risk ratio was counted then.

CONCLUSIONS
There is association between level of fathers `education and children`s nutritional status
