John Byrne

Managing Director
John is a Chartered Civil Engineer with
over 20 years’ experience in civil and
geotechnical design. Having previously
worked for Arup, he jointly established
Byrne Looby Partners in 1998. John
is the Managing Director of Byrne
Looby Partners (UK) and is based in
their Guildford office. He has been
responsible for the design of numerous
large scale projects in the UK and
overseas, mainly in the transport,
marine and commercial sectors.
John’s technical background is in
developing solutions that optimise
temporary works, permanent works
and construction sequence. John has
a deep interest in developing customer
focused solutions that deliver overall
business value through the application
of technical expertise.
David Beadman
MA, CEng, FICE, MIStructE
Director
David has over 25 years’ experience
in civil and geotechnical design,
specialising in developing economic,
buildable solutions for deep basement
excavations, combining knowledge of
geotechnical design, structural design
and construction techniques. David
is a Director of Byrne Looby Partners
(UK) and is based in their Guildford
office and has responsibility for the
London and UK-South regions. Prior
to this David held senior positions
with Tony Gee and Partners, Arup
and Bachy Soletanche. David has
been responsible for the design of
many underground space projects in
the UK and overseas, including the
Shard triple-level top-down basement
and station boxes on Crossrail,
the Jubilee Line Extension and the
Copenhagen Metro.
Danny Glynn
BSc, Cert Law, CEng, CEnv, MICE
Director
Danny has over 25 years’ experience
in the design, procurement and
execution of infrastructure and other
civil and geotechnical projects.
Danny is a Director of Byrne Looby
Partners (UK) and is based in their
Belfast office and has responsibility
for the Northern Ireland region. Prior
to joining BLP, he was Principal
Geotechnical Engineer for the
Northern Ireland Central Procurement
Directorate where his responsibilities
included advising on the design and
execution of major infrastructure
projects under the Capital Works
Programme. Danny has led specialist
teams on a wide range of projects
and was also Project Manager for
the remediation of the 400-acre site
at the Maze Long Kesh scheme. A
Chartered Environmentalist, he is a
part-time lecturer in Geotechnics at
Queen’s University, Belfast.

As the detailed designer for the sub-structure of the renowned Shard,

BLP facilitated a reduced programme with a practical and buildable
top-down design and construction sequence for this triple level
basement. BLP successfully satisfied Network Rail and their technical
advisers in relation to the adjacent sensitive London Bridge station,
considered to be a significant constraint for the project.
