Integrating PP/DS

The following sections contain information on the integration between Production Planning and
Detailed Scheduling (PP/DS) and SAP S/4HANA, with a look at intergration and maintenance of master
data and transaction data.
Prerequisites
 You have activated the flag for Advanced Planning in customizing. To activate PP/DS for SAP S/4HANA in
customizing, selectAdvanced Planning > Basic Settings > Activate Advanced Planning and Scheduling.
 You have set up the Model '000' and Version '000' manually and confirmed that they exist (as the PP/DS
Horizon can only be maintained at the level of planning versions in SAP S/4HANA).
 You have set the application indicator for ND-APO (New Dimension Plug-In APO) to active (using
transaction BF11), and you have verified if ND-APO and NDI (New Dimension Integration) is selected.
 You have set up the CIF customizing in Customizing by choosing Basic Settings for Creating the System
Landscape, and by including SAP S/4HANA with system type SAP_APO and release 713 so that an
Integration model pointing to itself (own system and client) is created, and logical system and queue
types can be maintained.
 And, you have set up CIF user parameters and registered the CIF queue (using transaction SMQR).
Note
There is no need for maintaining distribution definition or publication types, as PP/DS is part of SAP
S/4HANA. SAP recommends using CIF Post-Processing as the error-handling option to avoid queue
blocks.
 You have enabled number range in PP/DS for SAP S/4HANA in PP/DS global parameters and values
(using transaction /SAPAPO/RRPCUST1). In addition, you have maintained number ranges for production
campaigns and interchangeability groups depending on the usage of these functions.
 You have confirmed that pre-delivered ATP categories exist.

Define Configuration Relevance

Purpose

You control characteristics-dependent planning (CDP) via the configuration relevance. The configuration
relevance is defined in Customizing, and is valid for all products that are to be planned in a client.
The configuration relevance influences how characteristics and classes are used in SAP APO.
 Setting VC (Variant Configuration)
The products use the class type 300. The configuration is executed in the sales order in the R/3 system,
and is used for make-to-order production in SAP APO.
You cannot carry out characteristics-dependent planning (CDP) with this setting.
If you are using production data structures (PDS), you can use setting VC to carry out block planning
without restrictions.
You cannot carry out a characteristics propagation for production process models with setting VC .
Therefore, you can only create standard values for the activities in block planning; you must specify fixed
values and create several PPM plans for different characteristic value assignments.
 Setting CDP (Characteristics-Dependent Planning):
The products use the class type 400 in SAP APO. The characteristics are used for planning the products.
You can carry out the characteristics propagation in PPM plans with the setting CDP, and can therefore
carry out block planning with PPM plans without restrictions.
CDP supports both make-to-order production and make-to-stock production.

Prerequisites

In the R/3 system, you have created a classification system in class type 300 (variant configuration) or
class type 023 (batch classification), and have transferred the classification to SAP APO ( Integration of
Classes and Characteristics ).

Process Flow

1. Define which process you want to use for characteristics and classes in SAP APO.
2. Define the configuration relevance in Customizing in SAP APO under Advanced Planning and
Optimization Master Data Classification and Configuration Define Configuration Relevance .
