I-Pads, Volleyballs, Hula Hoops, Net, and Paper/Pencil.

Explain to your partner what they were doing wrong or correct when you were peer assessing them hitting the volleyball on the wall.

Formative:
Peer Assessment: Students ability to identify the cues while observing a peer.
Exit Slip: The students’ knowledge of the cues for hitting a volleyball.
Instructional model or strategies for this lesson:
Sport Education
Planned support for diverse student needs:
-For students who are not strong enough to use a volleyball I will have foam balls available to use. This way they can focus on using correct
form.
-I will have cards in each teams’ folder with the cues written on them with a picture to help those who are visual learners. Also, I will have all
students watch the video on hitting to help the visual learners as well.

Instant Activity or Informing Task:
Students will watch a video on Hitting a volleyball.
Opening Management:
-Take role
-Allow them to change clothes.
-Hand out folders
Set Induction:
I will talk to the coaches while the trainers warm the students up for activity.
Task Presentation 1: Demonstration, Cues, and Checking for Understanding (CFU):
Cues:
-Wait to go until ball is at highest point -Get to the ball -Jump off two feet -Catch with arms extended
Learning Task 1: Task Structure, plans for maximizing learning, and CFU:
Approach footwork:
-Students will be in groups of two.
-One partner will be along the net, and the other will be on the ten-foot line (grey line).
-The partner at the net will toss the ball into the air.
-The partner on the ten-foot line will approach and catch the volleyball with their arms extended above their head.
-Each partner will approach and catch 5 then switch.
-They will go through these two times with their partners.
Task Presentation 2: Demonstration, Cues, and Checking for Understanding (CFU):
Cues:
-Hitting elbow back -Contact the middle to top of ball -Snap down with wrist
Learning Task 2: Task Structure, plans for maximizing learning, and CFU:
Wall hitting:
-Students will be in groups of two.
-Partner 1 will be 10 feet from the wall with a volleyball.
-They will be working on snapping the volleyball down to the ground where the ball will bounce up and hit the wall then bounce back to
them.
-They will catch the ball then do it again.
-They will do 10 then switch with their partner.
-Partner 2 will be performing a per-assessment on their partner hitting on the wall.
-They will use the assessment sheet provided.
-Once they have completed the assessment sheet they will switch with their partner.
Task Presentation 3: Demonstration, Cues, and Checking for Understanding (CFU):
Cues:
-Wait to go until ball is at highest point -Get to the ball -Jump off two feet -Catch with arms extended -Hitting elbow back -Contact the
middle to top of ball -Snap down with wrist
Learning Task 3: Task Structure, plans for maximizing learning, and CFU:
Hitting lines:
-The team will get into a line at the ten-foot line (grey line).
-Everyone except one person on the team will get a volleyball.
-The person without the ball will go stand by the net. This person is going to be the tosser.
-The tosser will toss the ball along the net and up in the air for the people in line to hit.
-Once the person hits the ball they will go get the ball they hit and get back into line.
-When everyone in line has hit the ball 1 time. The first person in line will give their ball to the tosser. They will then become the tosser
and the tosser will go to the end of the line.
-They will go through these 5 times.

Cues:
-Wait to go until ball is at highest point -Get to the ball -Jump off two feet -Catch with arms extended -Hitting elbow back -Contact the
middle to top of ball -Snap down with wrist
Learning Task 4: Task Structure, plans for maximizing learning, and CFU:
Hitting Competition:
-The lines will be set up the same as Task #3.
-Now the hitters are going to be aiming at targets placed around their court.
-They will be competing to see which team is able to knock down the most targets in 3 mins.
Assessment of student learning:
Formative:
Peer Assessment: Students ability to identify the cues while observing a peer.
Exit Slip: The students’ knowledge of the cues for hitting a volleyball.
Closure:
-I will review what we learned in this lesson. Also, I will ask the students what they thought helped them the most when hitting a volleyball.
-I will then tell the students that we will be working on serving a volleyball in the next class.
