e are living in unstable times, times full of changes,
times that are demanding and competitive in which
being on top of it all is essential to survival. Renewing
oneself, being attentive to customers’ demands and
needs and, most importantly, keeping pace with them are things that
Geneve Company has engrained on its soul. And this is shown through
the different actions and activities that the company has conducted
and continues to conduct to optimise its service.
EXCLUSIVE PRESENTATION ON THE CANARY ISLANDS OF THE
LATEST RELEASES BY PATEK PHILIPPE.
Geneve Company was honoured to host (at its Boulevard Faro I
boutique) the temporary exhibit presenting the collections of Patek
Philippe, the last independent family-run Genevan watch manufacturer
that designs, produces and assembles what specialists agree to
be the best watches in the world. Open to the public, it attracted
the attention of connoisseurs and enthusiasts of fine watchmaking
mechanics and represented a unique opportunity on the Canary
Islands to see up-close the most exclusive pieces from the collections
of Patek Philippe. A total of 55 models from the various families of
collections were exhibited in 10 display cases so that curious onlookers
and watch experts could see for themselves the eight families
manufactured by the brand. In a relaxed atmosphere complemented
by a refreshing cocktail, attendees were privileged witnesses of one of
the most significant pieces on display, the Celestial 6102R. Moreover,
they had the chance to learn more about how it works thanks to
explanations provided by Patek Philippe accompanied by telescopes
to see the Moon and stars in real time. Events such as these reinforce
Geneve as the exclusive official distributor of Patek Philippe in the
province in Canary Islands.

und Initiativen, die das Unternehmen durchgeführt hat – und weiter
durchführen wird – um seinen Service zu optimieren.
EXKLUSIVE PRÄSENTATION AUF DEN KANAREN – DIE NEUHEITEN VON
PATEK PHILIPPE
Geneve Company hatte die Ehre, in der Boutique Boulevard Faro I
die zeitweilige Ausstellung mit der Präsentation der Kollektionen
von Patek Philippe zu beherbergen; die letzte unabhängige Genfer
Uhrenmanufaktur in Familienbesitz fertigt und montiert das, was
Fachleute als beste Uhren der Welt anerkennen. Die Ausstellung war
öffentlich und fesselte die Aufmerksamkeit von Kennern und Fans von
Mechanik im Dienst der Haute Horlogerie; es war die einzige Gelegenheit
auf den Kanarischen Inseln, die exklusivsten Stücke der Kollektionen aus
dem Hause Patek Philippe von Nahem zu betrachten. Fünfundfünfzig
Modelle aus verschiedenen Familien der Kollektionen in 10 Vitrinen,
sodass Neugierige und Sachkenner die Möglichkeit hatten, sich die 8
Familien der Marke genauer anzusehen. In lockerer Atmosphäre und
mit einem erfrischenden Cocktail in der Hand waren die Anwesenden
Zeugen bei der Vorstellung eines der relevantesten Stücke der
Sammlung: der Celestial 6102R. Die Vertreter von Patek Philippe
erklärten, wie diese Uhr funktioniert; zu Hilfe nahmen sie dazu Teleskope,
durch die man Mond und Sterne in Echtzeit sehen konnten. Solche
bedeutenden Events stärken Geneves Status als offizieller und exklusiver
Händler von Patek Philippe in der Provinz auf den Kanarischen Inseln.
REOPENING OF GENEVE VARADERO II
An unmistakable declaration of intentions: we do not settle; we want
more. Geneve has decided to make a strong commitment to fine
jewellery, thus renovating this space. A careful selection of pieces has
been added to the showroom, in addition to the jewellery brands
already on offer: Gucci, Mirco Visconti, Gold & Roses, Anissa Kermiche
and a selection of jewellery. Watches also have their own area, and
brands such as Montblanc, Oris, Swiss Military, Mistersinger, Junghans,
Ebel, Maurice Lacroix and QclockTwo are newcomers to a varied and
extensive line of watches. In addition, Geneve Varadero II has created
two new areas reserved for none other than IWC and Panerai, two major
manufacturers of fine watches. Luxury, class and history all rolled into
one in these two companies that are part of the Richemont group. The
latest releases and the most iconic models of the two companies are
now available at Varadero II.

The new 41 mm Racing Bird contains calibre
BR-CAL.301, a self-winding mechanical
movement. Its functions include hours, minutes,
small seconds and the date at 3 o’clock. It
also features a chronograph with a 30-minute
counter at 9 o’clock and central chronograph
seconds.

The new 89630 manufacture calibre of the
Da Vinci Perpetual Calendar Chronograph is
the first IWC model to combine the hour and
minute counters with the moon phase in a
single sub-dial. The moon phase display is so
accurate that it will diverge by just one day in
577.5 years from the actual phase of the moon.
The hour and minute counters are combined in
a sub-dial at 12 o’clock. Its size: 43 mm.

ehind Messika’s success is a special savoir-faire that emanates from Valérie’s passion for jewellery,
a passion that requires a hundred sketches before deciding on a specific design. A keen eye and
a steady hand are then needed to create the gouache, which gives a specific vision of the final
creation and establishes the link between the designer, in this case Valérie Messika, and the jeweller.
Dialogue, investigation and reflection are the key steps in the work coming out of Atelier Messika, where the
creative idea becomes reality. The jeweller must meticulously assemble the different pieces in order to give
form to the various components of the structure. The drawing comes to life; the curves take form and the
harmonious architecture is revealed. This harmony is expressed through flexibility, as the jeweller carefully
finishes assembling the final structure, bringing it to life, evidencing the exceptional expertise overflowing at
the maison’s workshop. Next, the piece is delicately polished in several stages, both before and after setting,
to finally complete the piece through a process which involves sculpting, cutting and finishing that the setter
artfully performs to enhance the beauty of the piece of fine jewellery. This is the only way to explain why
the jewellery of Valérie Messika encourages women to become who they are: brilliant, free, sensual
and self-confident.

inter Messikas Erfolg steckt ein ganz besonderes Savoir-faire, das die Leidenschaft zeigt, die Valérie
für ihre Juwelen empfindet. Diese Leidenschaft braucht zehn Entwürfe, bevor ein konkretes Modell
genehmigt wird. Mit geübter Hand und aufmerksamem Auge entsteht die Gouache, eine konkrete
Vision der fertigen Kreation und die Verbindung zwischen dem Designer, in diesem Fall Valérie
Messika, und dem Goldschmied. Dialog, Forschung und Reflexion – auch das gehört zur Arbeit im Atelier
Messika, in dem der Schritt von der kreativen Idee zur Realität erfolgt. Um den verschiedenen Komponenten
des Gebildes Form zu verleihen, setzt der Goldschmied die einzelnen Stücke sorgfältig zusammen. Das
Bild wird lebendig, es entstehen Kurven und langsam entwickelt sich die Architektur des Schmuckstücks
in ihrer ganzen Harmonie. Eine Harmonie, die sich in Flexibilität übersetzen lässt, denn der Goldschmied
beendet peinlich genau die Montage der endgültigen Struktur und verleiht ihr Leben – ein Beweis für das
außerordentliche Savoir-faire in der Manufaktur. Anschließend wird das Stück in mehreren Arbeitsgängen –
vor und nach der Pressung – poliert und dann geht es zum Einfasser, der mit künstlerischer Hand technische
Vorgänge einbezieht, die die Schönheit dieses Stücks der Haute Joaillerie noch veredeln. Nur so lässt sich
erklären, dass die Schmuckstücke von Valérie Messika Frauen dazu ermutigen, so zu werden, wie sie sind:
glänzend, frei, sinnlich und selbstbewusst.

t is already a reoccurring event in the world of
fine watchmaking to honour those models
that defined a turning point in the history
of the brands. Everlasting models that are
impervious to the passage of time either
because of their beauty, impact, character,
complications or, why not, all of the above.
We opened a line of time and space and came
across three horlogerie heavyweights that this
year have decided to celebrate their history with
small changes to three of their latent icons. Let’s
start with Patek Philippe.
PATEK PHILIPPE: THE GOLDEN ELLIPSE, THE DIVINE
PROPORTION
In 1968 it appeared as an intense flash in the collective memory, a
magical number that seems to represent a turning point in history.
Between hedonism and adventures of freedom and rebellion there
was a historical event in the world of haute horlogerie – the birth of the
legendary Golden Ellipse by Patek Philippe. Rounded without being
round, quadrangular without sharp angles, this resolutely original
piece was the perfect fusion between an ellipse and a rectangle, thus
breaking with all previous designs. The ratio between the width and
length of the case was 1/1.6181, the famous golden section, the divine
proportion found in nature, in the beauty of living beings and in the
masterpieces of the great artists of ancient Greece. To commemorate
the 50th anniversary of this legendary piece, Patek Philippe is offering
two models able to exceed any expectations: the new large Golden
Ellipse in rose gold with a black dial and the limited edition in
platinum with an engraved enamelled dial. Technically speaking, it
houses the mechanical self-winding movement, Calibre 240. Its ebony
black sunburst dial is adorned with gold applied hour markers and
the dial plate is, not surprisingly, coated in 18-carat gold. Gold gives
way to a hand-stitched shiny black alligator strap with square scales
and prong buckle, thus resulting in the perfect combination. Its size is
striking, but with the good taste of refinement, as its 34.5 x 39.5 mm
harmoniously embrace the wrist. Elegant, expressive, timeless design,
a Patek Philippe, a Golden Ellipse.

PATEK PHILIPPE: ELLIPSE D’OR, DIE GÖTTLICHE PROPORTION
Das Jahr 1968 bleibt als intensiver Blitz im kollektiven Gedächtnis
haften, eine magische Zahl, ein Scharnier in der Geschichte. Zwischen
Hedonismus und Abenteuern voller Freiheit und Rebellion ereignete sich
in der Welt der Haute Horlogerie etwas höchst Bedeutsames: die Geburt
der legendären Ellipse d’Or von Patek Philippe. Abgerundet, ohne rund
zu sein, rechteckig ohne sichtbare Winkel – dieses entschieden originelle
Stück repräsentiert die perfekte Fusion von Ellipse und Rechteck und
bricht damit mit allen bisherigen Designs. Das Verhältnis zwischen
Breite und Länge des Gehäuses beträgt 1/1,6181 … der berühmte
goldene Schnitt, die „perfekten Proportionen“, die man in der Natur
findet, in der Schönheit der Lebewesen und in den Meisterwerken der
großen Künstler des klassischen Griechenlands. Als Hommage zum
50. Jahrestag dieser legendären Uhr präsentiert Patek Philippe zwei
Modelle, die alle Erwartungen übersteigen: eine neue Ellipse d’Or in
einer Grande-Taille-Ausführung in Roségold mit schwarzem Zifferblatt
und eine limitierte Auflage aus Platin mit blauem Emaillezifferblatt
mit Sonnenschliff. Das Gehäuse beherbergt ein mechanisches Uhrwerk
mit Automatikaufzug Kaliber 240. Das ebenholzschwarze Zifferblatt ist

provides reliable and precise performance
both in and out of water.
 There are two engravings on the case back: a delicate stylised
diving helmet, similar to the one found on the original
model that hid this same symbol inside its case; and a
“50th anniversary” inscription to commemorate the date
the Memovox Polaris timepiece was created in 1968.
OMEGA: SEAMASTER DIVER 300M, THE ACCLAIMED ONE
The company belonging to the Swatch Group has decided to revamp
the look of the Seamaster Diver 300M collection. Twenty-five years after
the first Seamaster Diver 300M, the collection has been wonderfully
updated both inside and out. The original design and sea-going
spirit are here to stay and have been coupled with state-of-the-art
materials and improvements on each model. Now measuring 42 mm
in diameter, every detail of the design has been reconsidered, including
the new black ceramic bezel with a diving scale in Ceragold™ or white
enamel. Inside beats Master Chronometer Calibre 8800, thus bringing
the collection to a new level of precision, performance and magnetic
resistance. Moreover, the dials are made from ceramic and come
in black, blue or a PVD chrome colour. The wave pattern has been
reintroduced (and is now laser-engraved), and the indexes have been
raised and filled with Super-LumiNova. The skeleton hands have also
been slightly reshaped. The helium escape valve, which is an essential
Diver 300M trait, is now conical and has been patented by OMEGA with
technology that allows it to be operated underwater. There are a total
of 14 new Diver 300M models, six in stainless steel and eight in a mix
of stainless steel and gold. Each model is presented on an integrated
black or blue rubber strap, or a traditional metal bracelet (with a new
ergonomic design and a patented extendable foldover rack-and-pusher
with diver extension that makes it very useful when diving).
JAEGER-LECOULTRE: AN ICON IS REBORN
That’s right. The Swiss manufacturer is commemorating the 50th
anniversary of the emblematic Memovox with an updated version from
its likewise revamped Polaris collection. This is the Jaeger-LeCoultre
Polaris Memovox, produced in a limited edition of 1,000 pieces. This is
the rebirth of an icon. Equipped with a unique alarm function, which
became famous with the 1968 Memovox Polaris, this special 50th
anniversary version features three crowns, one to set the clock, one for
the bezel and one to set the time. The dial is adorned with vintage-
inspired details and is reminiscent of the original 1968 dial: vanilla-
coloured Super-Luminova, trapezoidal indices and applied Arabic
numerals, as well as the triangle indicating the alarm. In addition,
Jaeger-LeCoultre Calibre 956 has a striking mechanism, a central
seconds hand and an instant-jump date-change system. A historically
reliable movement, it has been driving Jaeger-LeCoultre watches for
more than 60 years, which is why it is still being produced, improved
and modernised.

OMEGA: SEAMASTER DIVER 300 M, DIE BEJUBELTE
Die zur Swatch-Gruppe gehörende Marke entschied sich dafür, der
Kollektion Seamaster Diver 300M einen neuen Look zu verleihen. 25 Jahre
nach der ersten Seamaster Diver 300M wurde die Kollektion innen wie
außen aufs Wundervollste aktualisiert. Das ursprüngliche Design und
der maritime Charakter bleiben erhalten, doch jedes Modell wurde mit
neuen innovativen Materialien und anderen Neuerungen aktualisiert.
Jedes einzelne Detail des Designs dieser nunmehr 42 mm messenden
Uhr wurde überarbeitet. Dabei herausgekommen ist unter anderem
eine neue Keramiklünette mit Tauchskala aus Ceragold™ oder weißem
Email. In ihrem Inneren bergen die Uhren das Master Chronometer
Kaliber 8800, das die Kollektion umgehend in neue Sphären der
Präzision, Leistung und Widerstandskraft gegenüber Magnetfeldern
führt. Die Zifferblätter wurden aus polierter Keramik gefertigt und sind
in Schwarz, Blau oder mit chromfarbener PVD-Beschichtung erhältlich.
Das beliebte Wellenmotiv wurde wieder eingeführt (nun lasergraviert),
die erhabenen Indizes und die Skelettzeiger wurden mit Super-LumiNova
beschichtet. Das Heliumauslassventil, eines der wichtigsten Features
der Diver 300 M, wurde in konischer Form gestaltet und mit einer von
OMEGA patentierten, ausgeklügelten Technologie versehen, die auch
unter Wasser einsatzfähig ist. Insgesamt gibt es 14 neue Modelle der
Diver 300M: 6 aus Edelstahl und 8 in einer Kombination aus Edelstahl
und Gold. Jedes Modell ist mit einem integrierten schwarzen oder blauen
Kautschukarmband oder einem traditionellen Metallarmband (mit neuem
ergonomischem Design und patentierter Streck- und Druckfaltschließe
mit Taucherverlängerung) erhältlich.
JAEGER-LECOULTRE: EINE IKONE KEHRT ZURÜCK
Die Schweizer Manufaktur feiert das 50. Jubiläum der legendären
Memovox mit einer aktualisierten Version ihrer ebenfalls neuen Kollektion
Polaris. Star der neuen Linie ist die in einer limitierten Auflage von 1.000
Exemplaren erscheinende Polaris Memovox. Damit kehrt eine Ikone
zurück. Das Sondermodell zum 50. Jahrestag ist mit einer einzigartigen
Weckfunktion ausgestattet, welche die Memovox Polaris von 1968

World time is synonymous with complications for travel watches. Powered by manufacture
calibre B35, the Unitime makes it possible to simultaneously know the time in the 24 different
time zones. Just like its sibling chronographs, it also has a 43 mm case and is watertight to 100
metres. It is available in stainless steel with either a silver or black dial.

The most surprising piece in the new collection. Its peculiar complication that
provides the date and day indication, and the way of displaying the latter, makes
it special. It features central hands to indicate hours, minutes and seconds and
a rectangular window at 6 o’clock to show the date. The unusual detail is the
semi-circular window located at the top of the dial displaying the day of the
week written out in full.

noxville, Tennessee, March 1963. Only child of a teenage
mother. Never willing to study. “When people ask me if I
went to film school I tell them, ‘no, I went to films’”. Quentin
Jerome Tarantino’s childhood was spent glued to the
television, exposed to an array of film influences from the time and to
a mishmash of popular cultures. Tarantino had a troubled childhood
during which time he moved around quite a lot. However, his life took
a significant turn when he landed a job at the Video Archives video
rental store in Manhattan Beach. This is the only way to understand
Tarantino’s praxis: he absorbs like a vacuum cleaner, crushes like
a blender, discards like a colander and finally pours the resulting
concoction in a glass to then stir it with a spoon to infuse his magic.
The taste of such a well-crafted cocktail is a full-on explosion of events:
nonlinear storylines, visceral use of violence, doses of black humour,
quick and intelligent dialogues, numerous references to popular
culture, nods to other films and directors, signature Tarantino takes
and specific fetishes and/or fixations.

Samurais dressed in leather, Jews who hunt down and crush Nazis, and
bounty hunter slaves are some of the pieces of the most contemporary
Quentin, who, for 2019, is preparing his next release, Once Upon a Time
in Hollywood, a film that centres around the summer of 1969 in Los
Angeles, the year in which Richard Nixon came into power, the hippie
movement lived its golden age at Woodstock, man arrived on the Moon
for the first time and, sadly enough, one of the most violent murders
in film history took place: actress Sharon Tate, alongside Jay Sebring,
Wojciech Frykowski and Abigail Folger, was savagely murdered by “the
family”, a cult led by Charles Manson. The latter event will be part of
the framework in which the leading characters will move, characters
to whom Tarantino has already given faces, and what faces they are!
Leonardo DiCaprio will play Rick Dalton and Brad Pitt, Cliff Booth.
With Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino will add one more
film to his collection, his ninth and second to last before retiring for
good. Whether or not he stops at 10 (yours truly hopes not), Quentin
Tarantino will be condemned to be himself, to show his story of things
and not the things of history, to fascinate and repel in equal measure,
because there is only one Tarantino, and one is more than enough to
shake Hollywood up every time he says “action”.

eagerly awaits to discover the new releases of 2018. It is
Chopard’s turn. The flashes start firing and the public are
admiring and privileged witnesses to a historic event: starting
in July 2018, the Swiss company will only use 100% ethical gold in its
watches and jewellery. Chopard, as the family business that it is, will
thus erect sustainability as one of its core values, hence culminating in
2018 a vision that began more than 30 years ago.
“Ethical Gold” by Chopard
Chopard defines “Ethical Gold” as “gold acquired from responsible
sources, verified as having met international best practice
environmental and social standards”. As mentioned above, July 2018
is the turning point, the beginning of a historical event. Chopard has
defined two traceable routes to source gold responsibly: the first is
artisanal freshly mined gold from small-scale mines participating in
the Swiss Better Gold Association (SBGA), Fairmined and Fairtrade
schemes; and the second is based on the RJC (Responsible Jewellery
Council) Chain of Custody gold, through Chopard’s partnership with
RJC-certified refineries. Chopard joined SBGA in 2017 in order to
enhance initiatives to improve the lives of artisanal gold miners and
therefore contribute to a greater increase in the amount of responsibly
extracted gold.

Since the inception of Chopard, the Scheufele family has made
responsibility and ethics two essential bases of its work. If we go back 30
years, we see that Chopard opted for 100% vertically integrated internal
production development and invested in all parts of the production
process, from its own in-house foundry to the skills of fine jewellery
artisans and expert watchmakers. Moving on to more recent events, since
2012, Chopard has been a certified member of the Responsible Jewellery
Council, which it had joined in 2010. Moreover, in 2013, Chopard initiated
its “Journey to Sustainable Luxury”, considering its key impacts and
improving buying and production processes to create a responsible
supply chain from mine to retail. In partnership with Eco-Age, the
“Journey to Sustainable Luxury” is Chopard’s commitment to responsibly
sourcing raw material and to help people who are part of the supply
chain who are often ignored. The “Journey” began with the philanthropic
relationship between Chopard and the influential South American
mining NGO the Alliance for Responsible Mining (ARM). Chopard became
the first watch and jewellery company to support and enable mining
communities to reach Fairmined certification and to provide training,
social welfare and environmental support. Chopard has continued to
strengthen its pledge over the past five years, during which time it
has reached a series of milestones, including the creation of the Green
Carpet Collections of High Jewellery using only traceable and sustainably
sourced material; the Palme Verte collection, which is the first jewellery
diffusion line in Fairmined gold; the first watches in Fairmined gold in
the L.U.C. collection; not to mention the legendary Palme d’Or, which
has been made from Fairmined gold since 2014. Furthermore, in 2017
Chopard also launched the new Ice Cube collection, a jewellery diffusion
line crafted in Fairmined gold.

As part of Chopard’s commitment to ethical gold, the new pieces in the Green Carpet

hey’re very serious. Chanel has presented a
range of new watches that show the force
of their savoir faire in the world of fine
watchmaking. The new BOY·FRIEND Skeleton,
which is also equipped with the new Calibre 3, is a
good example of this.

BOY·FRIEND Skeleton
Part of Chanel’s most recent collection, the BOY·FRIEND,
which was presented in 2015, the new BOY·FRIEND
Skeleton was the most talked about piece unveiled by
Chanel at Baselworld 2018. This model was chosen to
house Chanel’s new manufacture movement, Calibre 3,
the third calibre developed in-house in only three years.
With three different calibres in three years, the Parisian
brand is sending a friendly warning to competitors:
now that we’ve got started, nothing is going to stop us
now. As with Calibre 1 and Calibre 2, Chanel’s Calibre 3
continues to have a similar design that includes circular
bridges, while also adopting a baguette-type style with
a nearly linear structure in its primary components:
barrel, gear train and regulating organ. A hand-winding
movement, Calibre 3 oscillates at a frequency of 28,800
vibrations per hour and builds up a 55-hour power
reserve. Moreover, the size of the case crafted in Chanel’s
exclusive beige gold is 37 x 28.6 x 8.40 mm. Chanel has
presented a second variant of this watch which features
the same type of gold and case size and has set brilliant-
cut diamonds adorning the bezel. Similarly, Chanel has
also presented two variants of the original BOY·FRIEND.
The first is a version of the large model with a case made
out of beige gold that is equipped with a hand-winding
mechanical movement. The second is related to the
medium-size model of the BOY·FRIEND TWEED with
external elements crafted entirely in beige gold and also
featuring set diamonds on the bezel.
In addition to the BOY·FRIEND Skeleton, it unveiled new
models in nearly all of its collections: Monssieur, J12,
Premiere, Mademoisselle Prive and Code Coco.

The icon is reborn. A limited edition of 1,000 pieces, it comes
with a unique alarm function that became famous thanks to the
original 1968 Memovox Polaris. There are three crowns, one to set
the alarm (on top), one for the rotating bezel (in the middle) and
one to set the time (on the bottom). The central disc, which is
turned using a crown, turns to align the triangle with the desired
time for the alarm to sound. Moreover, Jaeger-LeCoultre calibre
956, with it striking mechanism, central seconds and instant-
jump date-change system, is the direct descendent of the first
automatic alarm watch movement created by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

ran Canaria safeguards a floristic paradise of its own, which
is varied and, also, exclusive, since the island’s unique
geographic location means that it is home to some plant life
not found anywhere else. As advanced above, of the 2,000
different species of plants living on the islands, nearly 700 of them
are endemic, that is, they only grow naturally here. Great unknowns
for the “non-botanic” among us, they all feature exquisite beauty,
extraordinary forms and rich colours that decorate the entire island
with bursts of joy.
In the most mountainous areas, at altitudes of more than 1,000
metres, we find the Canary Island pine (Pinus canariensis), which can
grow up to 60 metres in height. This huge evergreen tree stands on
resinous bark that gives it the ability to survive forest fires and ensures
its survival for hundreds of years. Another species is the Canary island
palm tree (Phoenix canariensis), which lives in a semi-arid habitat. It
is used as an ornamental plant and also produces small amounts of
edible fruits similar to dates. If we take a look at rare specimens, we
find the Canary Island dragon tree (Dracaena draco), a different kind
of species that grows very slowly and has one or several branches able
to grow up to 12 metres and which have dense leaves that form an
umbrella-like canopy. There are a number of beautiful examples of
this type of plant on the islands, including the famous and ancient
Drago de Tenerife in Icod de los Vinos, which is believed to be more
than 1,000 years old. And from Icod de los Vinos, we proceed to the
laurel forests, which are home to the small-leaved holly known as Ilex
canariensis, an evergreen tree whose bark has medicinal properties,
according to tradition. Another native species is the wallflower known
as Erysimum scoparium, an herbaceous shrub from the mountain tops
that has flowers that are pale mauve in colour. Another plant of the
Canary Islands is the Canary Island spurge (Euphorbia canariensis),

die ihm ein langes Leben garantiert. Ein anderes typisches Exemplar
ist die Kanarische Palme – Phoenix canariensis – deren Lebensraum
die Halbwüste ist. Sie wird als Zierpflanze genutzt und bringt kleine,
essbare Früchte ähnlich wie Datteln hervor. In die Welt der Raritäten
gehört der Drachenbaum – Dracanea draco –, eine sehr seltene,
langsam wachsende Art mit einem oder mehreren Stämmen. Er kann
bis zu 12 Meter hoch werden und hat lange, spitze Blätter, die eine
schirmartige Krone bilden. Auf den Inseln gibt es viele und besonders
schöne Exemplare, wie den berühmten, uralten Drago de Tenerife in
Icod, der möglicherweise sogar über 1000 Jahre alt ist. Von Icod de
los Vinos geht es weiter in die Lorbeerwälder, in denen die Kanarische
Stechpalme – Ilex canariensis – wächst, ein immergrüner Baum, dessen
Rinde heilende Eigenschaften hat, wie die Tradition erzählt. Endemisch
ist auch der Teidelack – Erysimum scoparium –, eine krautige Pflanze,

which is similar in shape to the cactus with a candelabra shape
and reddish-green flowers. Also endemic is the echium known as
the Echium decaisnei, a kind of borage with light green leaves and
small white flowers that can also be found in rocky and dry areas.
The basaltic rocks on the coast are often covered by other types of
very specific species, such as the succulent flowering plant known as
Astydamia latifolia, which grows in springtime, and the decorative
flowering plant Euphorbia balsamifera commonly found in semi-arid
areas.
This is a short selection of the wide variety of plants native to the
islands, but the islands are not only about exclusive specimens.
Many plants brought in from the four corners of the Earth can be
found at the Jardín Botánico Vieja y Clavijo located in Tarifa and at
the Cactualdea Cactus Park in San Nicolás de Tolentino. The flora
of Gran Canaria has its own Eden, a delightful area full of different
microclimates with an enormous variety of colourful and exotic plants
that, in all their splendour, bloom to thus create an idyllic postcard.

textures, and a reflective gaze focused on the void, a void
that was gradually filled with a series of abstractions that
would eventually culminate in works. Manuel Millares Sall,
better known as Manolo Millares, was born in Las Palmas de Gran
Canaria in 1926 under the artistic influence of
his parents Juan Millares, a poet, draftsman and
high school teacher, and Dolores Sall, a pianist.
From the time he was a boy, Millares was
certain that for him, art was not about barriers,
but about being “armed” with a paintbrush in
order to “dominate” the canvas. Thus he began
painting in a self-taught way thanks to the
surrealist current that prevailed on the islands
due of the presence of Oscar Domínguez and
Eduardo Westerdahl. The intrepid Millares
continued nourishing his most enterprising self
by creating two artisan magazines (Racha and
Viento y marea), together with his brothers and
Felo Monzón, an exponent of the “indigenous
movement”, until he had his own solo show
in 1945 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a
watercolour exhibit at the Círculo Mercantil.
It was at this time that Millares’ adventures in
the world of art experienced an unparalleled
upward progression: from exhibits at Canary
Island galleries to exhibits in mainland Spain

between vehicles and high-end watches continues – there
are few concepts that go as well together as time and speed. The new
chapter of this award-winning series stars Aston Martin and TAG Heuer,
with the Geneva Motor Show 2018 setting the stage. It was there that
the Aston Martin Vantage 2018, a beastly sports car with a Mercedes
510 hp AMG-V8 engine, was officially unveiled.
Aesthetically speaking, it preserves the overall concept of the Aston
Martin Vantage 2005, a front-engine coupe with a sloping roof, but
with a more aggressive and athletic look than its predecessor. It
features a sharply sloping front end that finishes off at a much larger
grille that extends all the way down to the splitter, thus enhancing
aerodynamics, accompanied by a short rear end with new air ducts on
the side. There are also new side “gill” vents that are integrated with
the body surface and serve to discharge built-up air pressure from the
front wheel arches. Meanwhile, the rear has a full-width light bar and a
larger diffuser with two protruding exhausts.
Inside, we find a cabin designed with concave shapes with a cascaded
central console that integrates an array of mechanisms as well as the
transmission buttons arranged in a triangular layout. As for weight,
before us we have a total of 1,530 kilograms with a 50/50 weight

goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of
313 km/h. Some 70% of the components of the chassis are new for
the Vantage, with a solidly mounted rear subframe, double wishbone
suspension in the front and a multi-link system with coil springs in the
rear which offers three different drive modes: Sport, Sport Plus and Track.
It also includes a new electronically-controlled locking differential, the
E-Diff, used for the first time in an Aston Martin.
A premiere of this stature could only be accompanied by an exclusive
dancing partner to match, which is where TAG Heuer comes into play,
whetting the appetite of watch lovers out there by presenting two new
watches at Aston Martin’s stand alongside the company’s president, Andy
Palmer. The pieces are the TAG Heuer Carrera Calibre 01 and the TAG
Heuer Formula 1 Aston Martin. The former, drawing its inspiration from
the luxurious world of Aston Martin, features a 45 mm case in steel and a
self-winding movement visible through the hexagonal skeletonised dial
evoking the details of the new Vantage. Meanwhile, the Formula 1 takes
its cues from the Aston Martin Racing, a model measuring 43 mm in
diameter made out of steel. The indexes, the second hand and the famous
winged logo dress the Aston Martin Racing in its lime green shade and
stand out on the black dial, making this an undeniably sporty watch.

capital and golf is a good place to
start. This year Paris is hosting the
2018 Ryder Cup, the most widely
followed sporting event after

And the process to restore it
The Nazi concentration camp
and extermination centre
of Auschwitz in Poland is
undergoing an in-depth
restoration in order to preserve
its memory, leaving it exactly as it
was when it was liberated by the
Soviets. It was declared a World
Heritage Site by Unesco in 1979,
and today conservators work to
preserve 45 brick barracks, 22
wooden barracks, 21 low guard
towers and 6 high ones, and all
kinds of objects. Massive tourism
presents a challenge: Auschwitz
received 2 million visitors in 2016,
four times more than in 2006.
