Step by Step Guide to Making DMT

Dear fellow Psychonauts, below you will find our favourite method of extracting the Spirit Molecule,
Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) from Mimosa Hostilis root bark. This extraction technique is based on
“Norman’s Tek", though it has been honed and perfected from countless wonderful batches.

List of supplies:

Mimosa Hostilis root bark

Large Mason Jars (you can extract up too 500g Mimosa per jar - if you use the same ones)
Naphtha Fuel
Caustic Soda/Lye
Bottled Water
Measuring Beaker
Funnel
Paper Coffee Filters
Small Metal Ladle
Clingfilm
Small Bowls, Glass Dishes and/or Jam jars. (No plastic - glass is best).
Black Rubbish Bags
Digital Scales
Face Mask
Vinegar (neutralises lye in case any spills/splashes on skin)

In this example we’re using 1kg of Mimosa Hostilis - extracting 500g in each large Mason jar. And
just for size reference, there’s 2kg of Mimosa in that photo below, so we’ll have 1kg left over.

STEP 1:

Clean and organise your work area and supplies. Having done this many times we’ve learned that
being organised is key, and keeping your work area free from contaminates is also important if you
care about quality of your end-product. Lay everything out and check everyone’s clean n present.
STEP 2:

Fill your Mason Jar(s) about 65-70% full of bottled water (This equates to 2.25 litres or 2250ml
per). Note: After you add the Mimosa the water level will rise considerably, and you need about an
inch of air/space minimum at the top, so 65-70% is the sweet spot we’ve found.

STEP 3:

Adding the lye/caustic soda to the water. You need 1g of lye per 1g of Mimosa; and as we’re doing
1kg in this example - 500g Mimosa in each Mason jar, we’ll need 500g lye also for each jar.
WARNING: Always add the Lye to the water slowly as the water will quickly heat up, NEVER the
other way around, never add water on top of a bunch of lye as you’ll shatter the glass jar. For
safety this is the first step you need to don your face/gas-mask to avoid breathing in any of the
fumes or lye particles as you’re slowly pouring in while stirring gently. Goggles are probably a good
idea also. But do wear the gas-mask anytime the lids are open from this point. Also place the
Mason jars into the sink just to be safe, because if the glass does crack (fyi these jars get gradually
weaker the more times you use them so ideally use new ones if possible) then the sink is the best
place for it to be; Trust us on this.
STEP 3b:

Cut a better seal from a back rubbish bin-liner. The strong lye solution will eat away at the orange
rubber and break the seal if left to it’s own devices. To avoid this and to keep an air-tight seal
simply cut a square of black rubbish bin-liner big enough to fit over and sandwich inside the lid of
the Mason jar(s). It’s easier to do this now I’ve found then after the next step when you use it/close
the lid.

STEP 4:

Adding the Mimosa Hostilis. Weigh out your desired amount then slowly immerse it in the water/lye
solution; Pushing it down and gently string for a few seconds with the small metal ladle. (During
this whole process try not to get any splashes on your skin, rinse well if/when you do)
STEP 4b:

Place the pre-cut bin-liner square over the jars opening and snap/seal closed the lids on top.

STEP 5:

You will notice the Mason jars are surprisingly hot to the touch still, let them sit in the sink for about
an hour to cool a bit. During which time the lye/water solution will be breaking down the Mimosa
and forcing out the magic Spirit Molecule. Give the jar(s) a nice shake to help it along. NOTE: this
is the only step where you can “shake” the jars, at this point it’s ok as it just helps to break down
the Mimosa root bark. Later once the fuel layer is added, when you agitate the solution you need to
slowly rotate the jars end over end and back n forth, do not “shake” them as it will cause an
emulsion of little bubbles between the layers that hinders the process severely - No bueno.

STEP 6:

Add 100-200ml of Naphtha/fuel & close the jars again. As DMT is not soluble in water, steps 1 - 5
have forced the DMT out, now when you add the fuel/Naphtha, it will absorb all that lovely DMT.
STEP 7:

After having given the Mason jars lots of gentle agitation, and then allowed to settle, you will notice
the solution separates into two distinct layers; The bottom blackish layer with the water/lye/mimosa
and the top clear layer with the Naphtha/DMT. Now what you need to do it take out just that top
clear layer, put it in a new bowl, cover with clingfilm to stop any evaporation, and put it in the
freezer for 2-4 days to free precipitate out all the lovely DMT crystals. They will grow n stick to the
sides/base. We’ve found that using a small ladle in tandem with our “stepping-stone” method works
flawlessly - It’s super simple but let me explain: As the top layer is the layer we want you can
carefully lower the small metal ladle down into the solution until the clear solution just starts spilling
over the rim. Do this very carefully 5 or 6 times depositing all that clear top layer into the stepping-
stone container. This is because you will undoubtedly catch a little of the bottom gunky layer while
scooping out the top one, and you cant have any of it in the final freezer container. The bottom
layer bit you scooped out by mistake being of a much lower density will kinda stick to the bottom of
the stepping stone container so that when you poor it off into the final freezer container it’s simple
to only poor out what you want (keeping any bits of black sludge back).
STEP 8:

Cover the freezer container and pop it in the freezer for a few days. NOTE: stop checking it every
couple hours to watch the crystals forming - yea we know it’s cool, just every time you open the
freezer door you let out all the cold air and really hinders/stops/slows the process. Also turn the
thermostat up/down so that the freezers as cold as it can be, colder the better!!

STEP 9:

Repeat steps 6, 7 & 8 four more times. So add some more Naphtha (same 100 - 200ml) to the
Mason jars now you’ve taken out the first “pull” (each time you take off a layer its called a pull.
Pulling the DMT out the bottom layer/Mimosa if you will). We generally do 5 pulls per jar with
anywhere from an hour to 24hrs in-between pulls while the Naphtha absorbs the DMT. By the 5th
pull we leave it 24hrs to absorb every last little bit. Though 70-80% of it will normally come in the
first pull or two.

STEP 10:

By the 4th day of freeze precipitating your magic lil snow-globes are ready to rock n roll basically.
Though the longer you leave them in the freezer the more crystals will grow, up until a point, we’ve
found that point to be at about the 3rd or 4th day, so you can judge and play this bit by ear. Once
you’ve taken them out the freezer tho, you need to pour off the excess liquid as soon a possible as
the crystals will start to dissolve at room temp. So have a new coffee filter in the funnel standing by
for the first one as you take it out the freezer. Peel back the clingfilm, pour off the liquid, about 60%
of the DMT will normally remain stuck to the bowl, put it to one side and let the excess liquid
evaporate off, but 40% of the DMT will get caught in the filter, again once drained put it aside and
let the excess liquid evaporate, and then scrape the filter. Once all DMT has dried you’re good to
go. NOTE: Don’t try to speed up the drying by adding air-flow or heat as it will oxidise and lose
purity, just let it sit in a cupboard on top of your plates or something, takes a few hours max.
STEP 11 - Our favourite step over at the THE GIANT IS WAKING:

Go out into nature in a nice big open garden or field area and smoke a tiny bit rolled into a
“cigarette”. Tiny like 0.1gram, like very very little. The effects last only for 5-10 mins, but what it lets
you see…. The “super super ultra HD vision”.. Changed our lives in many wonderful ways. Find out
