Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

BrainPop contains both audio and visual parts their videos that allows equal opportunity for all students. It
also has different language options so it’s accessible to EL learners and their families at home. Videos are also
able to be replayed, rewound, and paused for the viewer to work at their own pace and also contain
transcripts for each video.
Lesson idea implementation:
This assignment will take one class period and will serve as a refresher to the students. The teacher will
introduce the topic by giving examples of the four different types of sentences and asking students what each
sentence type is. After the class discussion, the teacher will show the brainpop video over the different
sentences types and the class will take the formative quiz over the topic to show understanding of the topic
before beginning their assignment. The teacher will pull up the concept map feature on the SMARTboard and
show students the different features, allowing them to practice with the teacher as we go. In their groups,
students will work together to create a concept map with the four different sentence types with 2-3 examples
for each type. At the end of class, students will share one example of one of the types of sentences they
reviewed today. Students will be assessed over their concept map and the example they share to the class to
ensure they understand the different sentence types.
Reflective Practice:
lead into another activity where students take the example sentences they wrote in their concept map and
make a narrative out of it. This assignment could be extended to include technology to create a podcast or
audio file over their sentence examples. I think this activity is a fun alternative to students and the
video/concept map feature on BrainPop is appealing to students.
