Modern society has a higher demand for quality than it had before. There is a Plethora of
quality improvement techniques available which makes it harder for companies to decide
which one to apply. They need support in this decision and in knowing how to apply the
chosen techniques, if they want to improve their business and stay competitive.
Six Sigma approach is a very successful quality improvement tool. In the last two
decades, it has helped many companies to success. Recently, the Six Sigma approach was
introduced in the BPO Companies. Some BPO companies have been trying to adapt Six
Sigma for their business and development processes. But there are misconceptions about
the applicability of Six Sigma in BPO.
In recent years, the companies and organizations around the world are showing great
interests in quality. Six Sigma approach is a structured quantitative method which is
invented by Motorola in 1986 for improving the product quality. Its aim is to enhance
organization’s performance by using statistical analytic techniques.
After two decades of successful implementation in manufacturing and Service, Six Sigma
is approved as an effective methodology for improving quality.
It seeks to improve the quality of the output of a process by identifying and removing the
causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. It
uses a set of quality management methods, mainly empirical, statistical methods, and
creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization, who are experts in these
methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined
sequence of steps and has specific value targets, for example: reduce process cycle time,
reduce pollution, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and increase profits.
This project is about studying Six sigma implementation at KCI Bearings Pvt. Ltd.
KCI Bearings (India) Pvt Ltd, an ISO/TS 16949 certified company, is one of the
specialized bearing manufacturers. Ever since the establishment of the company, KCI
Bearings has provided innovative bearings that are designed for superior life cycle and
performance. Company is into the business of automotive bearing and textile bearing.
KCI Bearings’ is certified ISO/TS 16949:2009 company.
Six Sigma is a method that provides organizations tools to improve the capability of their
business processes. This increase in performance and decrease in process variation lead to
defect reduction and improvement in profits, employee morale, and quality of products or
services. Six Sigma quality is a term generally used to indicate a process is well
controlled.
Six Sigma is a methodology for pursuing continuous improvement in
customer satisfaction and profit. It is a management philosophy
attempting to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
The goal of Six Sigma method is to ensure the highest quality of manufacturing
process outputs by means of identifying the causes of deviations or defects and
removing them. The approach is based on the goal of minimizing variability in
manufacturing and business processes. To reach these results, Six Sigma
methodology outlines special projects with defined sequences of steps and KPIs,
which are mostly quantified targets.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTION
With this project, I hope it will be helpful to understand the implementation of six sigma
in bearing manufacturing company. This project will helpful to the company to
understand efficiency of inventory management.
