Task 1
a. List and describe three legislative requirements and codes of practice (or industry standards)
• Federal, which implements the national policy to protect the employees in the
workplace throughout Australia.
• State/Territory, the regulatory authorities in each state which they provide departments
dealing with environmental legislation in each state/territory legislative.
• Local Government, whereas organisations are mandatory to follow the local
government’s policy which is integrated with the national and state laws and
regulations.
A code of practice is a practical guide on how to comply with the legal duties under the Work
Health and Safety (WHS) Act and Regulations, which provides for the approval, variation and
revocation of codes of practice by the relevant minister.
b. Identify a relevant industry association for your organisation. Access their website and
provide the overview of two environmental initiatives that have been developed for your
industry.
The relevant industry association that I would choose is Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) as they have
reported its sustainability performance since 2016 throughout countries in Asia Pacific and in
the progress, CCA has also been rewarded with some award title in Australia alone.
In New South Wales Office of Environment and Heritage, CCA has been rewarded with Bronze
award as the recognition for them demonstrating commitment to business sustainability in two
consecutive years, 2012 and 2013.
Since CCA began their performance report in sustainability, the 2013 Sustatinability Report
also reflects the requirements of ISO 26000 which provides guidance on social responsibility,
environmental issue, community involvement and organizational governance.

c. Identify the source that you will need to contact to obtain more information; for example, a
government department or an environmental expert. List contact details and the type of
information they can provide that will help you develop your policy.
CCA support a national recycling system which has been funded by the industry that targets
not only drink containers, but all kinds of litter. One of them is the anti-litter organizational
called Keep Australia Beautiful (KAB) in which Coca-Cola foundation has provided $1.24
million to KAB recycling product. For national contacts, we can contact Philip Robinson as
KAB’s CEO or the Program Manager Jennifer Bryant on +61 2 9687 9396.
d. Why is the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) so
important?
The Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth) is the central
piece of environmental legislation in the Australian government. This also acts as the legal
framework and matters of national environment significance.
e. Complete the following. Note, you should reproduce the table to allow for complete
responses.
2 Paworaprat Rittisin
Shareholders They will be the one who will Verbal (meeting)
supervise the on-going progress
in a policy
f. For both of the following describe how you would promote initiatives associated with
workplace sustainability policy:
i. Employees
We need to make sure that our company’s sustainability strategy is easy to read and
absorb so that it will be easier for our employees to feel personally committed. It is
also important to help them at all levels to recognise themselves as the part they play
and what action they take to contribute in regards to the said policy. To help promote
schemes internally and motivate other staff, it is also vital to have ‘champions’ for this
policy.
ii. Community
Put advertisement related to the policy in all medias, such as billboard, TV, newspaper
or social media.
g. What information might a SWOT analysis give you to help you develop an effective
sustainability policy for the organisation?
3 Paworaprat Rittisin
A SWOT analysis can help us identify and understand key issues affecting our organisation,
especially anything related to our sustainability policy.
h. Describe your role in helping the organisation show commitment to the environment and
sustainability.
To improve our environment and sustainability policy, our department can utise an
Environmental Management System (EMS) in order to implement organisation-wide policy. It
is also required to report its environmental performance publicly.
1. Your organisation is about to introduce a new policy to reduce power usage. What are some
promotional activities you could do to raise awareness.
iii. E-mail blasts to all organisation members introducing the policy to reduce power
usage.
iv. Put some posters and reminder about the new policy around their working
environment.
1. What issues would have been considered in defining the scope of the policy?
The issues would have been considered in defining the scope of the policy is the budget
used for this policy to be realised.
2. What source of information would have been accessed in planning the policy?
4 Paworaprat Rittisin
Financial statement for energy and power used would have been accessed in planning
the policy in order to see the comparison before and after the policy implemented in the
organisation.
• Environmental legislations
4. List the stakeholder who would have been considered in the developing the policy.
• Board of Directors
• Shareholder
• Employees
• Supplier
• Customers
• Community
5. Does the policy reflect the organisations commitment to sustainability and the
environmental? If so, why? If not, why?
Yes, it does as the parameter of success for the policy to be implemented within
organisations is how many stakeholders can participate in this policy.
5 Paworaprat Rittisin
a) Why is it crucial to let stakeholders know about your sustainability policy? Describe
the conscribe the consequences if this is not done.
Letting stakeholders know about our sustainability policy can help the team in
reaching the target they desire in regards to the policy, as well as to make sure that the
stakeholders align their daily roles and performance with it.
b) List the skills a manager needs to have to communicate effectively. Give example
then list at least five tips for developing the skill.

c. What you would include in a presentation to the staff in your area in relating
to the policy, the procedures and activities to be carried out; the impact staff
and the responsibilities that they will have to take on board in terms of quality
assurance; ensure you incorporate any OHS issues in your response
3. Ensure all the stakeholders follow the requirement that meets the policy.
d) Outline the presentation to your supervisor or some stakeholders and obtain comments
from them attach the comments to your outline and indicate whether you would adjust
the outline in response to the comments.
The presentation has been done to both supervisor and some stakeholders and they also
make some addition suggestion in order to ensure that the policy followed by all
stakeholders.
1. Describe the strategies you would use to promote and communicate to new policy and
procedures to the 2,000 employees who are now located to one building.
7 Paworaprat Rittisin
The strategies I would use to promote new policy and procedures to the 2,000
employees is to create an interactive forum both in person or virtual. Then, we can put
an eye to the response of all employees and how they implement it in daily life.
2. What strategies would you recommend for ongoing awareness of the initiatives that
have been put in place?
Monitor them closely to make sure that the awareness of the initiatives have been put
in place for all employees.
3. Suggest four relevant key performance indicators that maybe put in place for employee.
4. Select one of the initiatives from the bulleted list and complete a table similar to the
following.

Task 5: Implementing the workplace sustainability policy
Objective:
Sustainability management standards, codes of conduct and business initiatives have been
developed over the last decade. The various different initiatives have been divided as:
9 Paworaprat Rittisin
3. List and describe three mechanisms for communicating the procedures. Explain how
you will ensure that the procedure can be understood by everyone.
• Meeting in-person
4. Describe some strategies you would use to implement a continuous improvement cycle
for environmental sustainability.
• To open discussion with all personnel to ensure that there is no issue came up
caused by the policy implementation.
5. Explain how the continuous improvement cycle can assist in improving resource
efficiency.
We can try to outline the improvement cycle with the ‘champions’ system so that all
stakeholders will be interested to participate and try to perform their best in order to be
a ‘champion’ and get some rewards for continuously improve in resource efficiency.
6. List and describe three examples of internal recording system or tools and explain how
they are used to measure environmental progress.
10 Paworaprat Rittisin
7. Explain the link between reporting and recording systems and quality assurance.
The reporting and recording systems can be used to maintain the quality assurance and
to ensure that our policy is still implemented. Should it fail to implement, we can
measure it by the quality assurance and whether or not we should change or revise the
policy.
Prior to the implementation procedures, we need to assess the risk that can be caused
by the procedures. If there is only minimum risk to follow, then we can start
implementing the procedures while also give the organisation members training
regarding to the implementation.
• Describe some strategies you would use to monitor the policies and procedure for
tracking and recording performance in these areas and ensure the organization regularly
improves resource efficiency.
I would conduct direct observation to monitor the policies and procedure to track the
performance in these areas in order to ensure that the organisation regularly improves
resource efficiency.
• Explain how you would assign responsibility for tracking improvement in sustainability
approaches. Give some example of tracking tools and software system you might use.
I would allocate the role and responsibility for all members to follow equally. For
tracking tools, I would use Environmental Management System (EMS) to track the
improvement in our sustainability approaches.
11 Paworaprat Rittisin
Task 7: Reviewing policy implementation
• Explain the importance of providing stakeholders with result /outcome following the
implementation of environmental policies and the procedures. Discuss some
consequence for not doing this.
• Provide the description of the steps you would take in evaluating to performance of a
policy implementation.
• Describe the report you have prepared for senior management to document outcome in
relating to a workplace sustainability policy initiative. Identify the target audience and
provide a brief description of the structure and the nature of the report.
The report that I have prepared for senior management would describe the expectation
of the sustainability policy initiative and the outcome of the policy so we could compare
12 Paworaprat Rittisin
and evaluate it altogether. This report would also be presented to some stakeholders in
order for them to evaluate each of their units to improve the policy in the future.
• Prepare a presentation you may give to staff to explain the outcomes of policy initiative.
Make note on the tolls you will use to visually show progress, then how this
presentation will boost peoples confident.
• What role do key performance indicator play in monitoring performance and how can
the assist in supporting continuous improving?
The key performance indicator sets the standard of quality in performance and the
indicator can boost up the stakeholders’ performance in order for them to at least reach
the indicator through their performance.
• Outline the option you would take when it has been determined that a policy needs
major modification.
A policy will need major modification if I have got some input from the stakeholder
regarding to the implementation of the policy. I would use this as the indicator on what
kind of modification should I focus on regarding to the policy implementation.
13 Paworaprat Rittisin
• In relation to workplace sustainability policy it has been agreed the changes to
procedures need to be made to improve the overall performance of the policy. Explain
your approach.
The changes to procedures will be done after we review it and find that it is necessary
to revise it. My approach will be to get the stakeholders understand the importance of
changes and implement it in their daily bases to improve the overall performance of the
procedure.
June 2010 8%
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
Graphing these figures and the expanding them to December 2010 suggests that at best
the reduction in waste will be 24to 25per cent – well short of the target of 32 per cent.
14 Paworaprat Rittisin
Describe the step you would take to address this situation.
Study the change requirement and how we can implement it before socialise it with the
stakeholders.
The encouragement that Karen has done to her team in order to document paper usage
is important as the usage of double sided copying whenever possible and reuse single-
sided paper are necessary.
• How might you provide feedback to the staff about the outcomes of the new paper
recycling policy?
I might analyse the outcomes and present the feedback to the staff about the new paper
recycling policy and encourage them to keep doing what they do.
• Develop the new procedure that will improve records on paper purchasing and use.
To improve records on paper purchasing and use, we can make a new logbook to give
some details and information about how the paper has been used and the brief
explanation about the paper usage as well.
