GOP Opposition to Carbon Tax: Voting 229

Y Y N N -180, the House adopted a nonbinding GOP-
sponsored statement of opposition to taxing
the carbon content of fossil fuels in order to
reduce emissions of greenhouse gases
including carbon dioxide. A yes vote was to
adopt H Con Res 119.
Electoral Grants to States: The House
N N Y Y defeated, 182-232, a Democratic bid to add
$380 million to HR 6147 (below) for Election
Assistance Commission grants to help states
upgrade their electoral systems. A yes vote
was to restore funds that the underlying bill
would eliminate in 2019.
$59 Billion Spending Bill: The House
Y Y N N approved, 217-199, $58.7 billion in 2019
appropriations for the Treasury and Interior
departments and several agencies. A yes
vote was to pass a bill (HR 6147) slightly
lowering the Environmental Protection
Administration budget to $7.96 billion.
Ryan Statement on Russian Role: The
Y Y N N House blocked, 230-183, a Democratic bid to
call up a measure that would formally
enshrine Speaker Paul Ryan’s statement that
there is “no question” Russia interfered in the
2016 presidential election. A yes vote
opposed debate on H Res 999.
Support for Border Agency: The House
Y Y O O adopted, 244-35, a GOP statement of support
for U.S. Immigration and Customs
Enforcement. A yes vote backed H Res 990
in the face of critics’ calls for ICE to be
abolished over its record of separating
thousands of migrant children from parents.
Russian Interrogation Request: The Senate
Y Y voted, 98-0, to express opposition to Russia’s
request for President Trump to submit 11
American citizens, including diplomats, to
interrogation in its probe of U.S. economic
sanctions on Russia. A yes vote was to adopt
the resolution (S Res 584).
