SEMI DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN ENGLISH VIII

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of 45 – minute discussion the student should be able to:

 identify the point of view in a story;

 state the point of view of a story; and

 speak out the importance of knowing one’s view in life.

February 2001, pages 15-19

III. PROCEDURE

A. Preliminary Activities

B. REVIEW

-What was our lesson last meeting?

- What is conflict?

-Can you give examples of conflict?


C. MOTIVATION

The class will be divided into two (2) each group will have three (3)
representatives. The teacher will be cut-outs of pronoun that can be posted on the
board; the students will have to guess and categorized which belong to the First
person POV, Second person POV, Third person POV an omniscient. The first one who
finishes with the most number of correct answers will be the winner.

D. LESSON PROPER

-Who among you experienced reading a short story?

-Can you give an example of a short story?

-Did you enjoy reading it?

- What is a Point of View?

-Point of view refers to who is telling or narrating a story.

- Are there different ways of narrating a story?

- The Lesson Objectives will be presented to the Students.

- What is first person POV?

- The narrator tells “I” or “MY” story. Also this maybe use “WE” or “OUR”.

EXAMPLE: We love walking the dogs in the woods. We all think it is so much fun.

- What is second person POV?

-The narrator tells “YOU” or “YOUR” story, usually used for instructions.

-EXAMPLE: First, you should wash your hand.

-What is third person limited POV?

-The narrator tells “HIS” or “HER” story and reveals one character’s thoughts
and feelings.

EXAMPLE: Sad that his girlfriend had left him, Ben wasn’t paying attentionas he walked
down the street. A man drove by and yelled,” Hey, watch where you’re going!”.
-What is Third person Omniscient?

-The narrator tells “HIS” or “HER” story and reveals More than one character’s though
and feeling.

-EXAMPLE: Sad that his girlfriend had left him, Ben wasn’t paying attention as he
walked down the street. Tom was also having a bad day, and as he was driving by
Ben, Tom tried to startle him: “Hey, watch where you’re going!” Tom yelled
intimidatingly.

E. APPLICATION

The class will be divided into two (2) groups; each group will be given five
sentences and both have to identify whether it is first person, second person, third
person omniscient, third person limited POV. The first group who finishes with more
number of correct answers will be the winner.

1. “I love the colorful clothes she wears

And the way the sunlight plays upon her hair”

2. “The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea

In a beautiful pea-green boat,”

3. “A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song.”

4. "You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.”

5. “You cannot say that the terrain is entirely unfamiliar, although the details are fuzzy.”

F. GENERALIZATION

- What are the types of Point of View?

- What is first person, second person, third person omniscient POV?

- What do you think the connection of our lesson in real-life?

- What do you think is the importance of having Point of View in our lives?
G. EVALUATION

Direction: One the worksheet given, identify what point of view is being described.

Write FS if it is First person POV, SP if it is Second person POV, TP if it is Third person POV
and O if it is Omniscient.

1. I could not unlove him now, merely because I found that he had ceased to notice

2. You need to prepare a wall before applying primer.

3. And I like large parties. They’re so intimate. At small parties there isn’t any privacy.

4. Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak, and weary.

7. You got to fight for your right to party!–“Fight for your Right”.

8. She was the one who knew all the answers on the test. She had the highest grade in
the entire class.

9. The Boys went to a movie and then a basketball game; they enjoyed themselves.

10. We didn’t want to drive so we took the train to the city and back home.

V. ASSIGNMENT

Look up five short stories and identify what is the point of view of each. Defend your
answer in 2-3 sentences. Write your answer in your Assignment notebook.
