for The Dow Chemical Company

ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ACTUATOR CONSTRUCTION/DESIGN:

1.0 The actuator and valve attachment parts shall be supplied

suitable for the following temperature and relative humidity
conditions at the noted Dow Chemical sites unless specified
otherwise:

1.2 Actuator parts, inside and outside, shall be suitable for sea
water coastal conditions where relative humidity can range
from 0 to 100%.

1.3 Exterior surfaces of actuator shall be corrosion resistant

and, as a minimum, be capable of complying with the salt
spray test requirements of ASTM B117 or DIN 500021.

ACTUATOR SIZING CRITERIA:

2.0 Actuator(s) for the following noted Dow Chemical sites shall
be sized using the pressures listed below unless specified
otherwise:

2.1 Actuators shall be sized, unless otherwise specified,

utilizing the minimum torque/thrust safety factors
listed in G6C-8401-00.

2.2 All actuators are to stroke valve clockwise to close and

counter clockwise to open, when viewing actuator from the
top, per ISO standard, unless specified otherwise.

ACTUATOR BOTTOM FLANGE:

3.0 Actuator bottom flange pattern and position of holes shall be

designed in accordance with ISO 5211.2.

3.1 Actuator shall have female square head drive fitting.

Dimensions to be in accordance with ISO 5211.2.

ACTUATOR TOP FLANGE:

4.0 Actuator shall be provided, as a minimum, with accessory drive

configuration and mounting dimensions in accordance with the
latest issue of VDI/VDE 3845.

4.1 Accessory drive penetration design shall prevent water/dirt

from pocketing around the spindle bushing.

ACTUATOR AIR SUPPLY/EXHAUST AIR/SOLENOID VALVE CONNECTIONS

5.0 Interface for solenoids shall be according to NAMUR, VDI/VDE

3845, but air connection shall also be minimum 1/4 NPT thread,
contrary to VDI/VDE 3845.

ACTUATOR CONSTRUCTION/DESIGN DETAILS:

6.0 Same actuator model/series shall allow for single or double

acting applications.

6.1 Same actuator model/series shall be applicable for ball,

butterfly and plug type valves.

6.2 Adjustable mechanical limit stops, at both open and closed

positions, shall be included as a design standard. Adjustment
capability shall be +/- 3 degrees minimum at both end stops.

6.3 Anti-blow out construction of the drive shaft shall be the

design standard.

6.4 Top and bottom shaft guides and bearings shall be designed for
air tightness and against dust/moisture ingress for lifetime
cycling without maintenance.

6.5 Actuator construction, including springs, rack, pinion, seals,

etc., shall be designed for maintenance free operation for a
minimum of 1 million cycles. Cycle testing data is required to
guarantee long term performance at the above noted atmospheric
conditions.

6.6 Maximum actuator design pressure shall be 7 Bar (100 PSIA)

minimum.

6.7 Standard assembling and disassembling procedures shall never

create unsafe situations, where parts under pressure could
become projectiles.

6.7.1 End cap removal: Bolts shall be long enough to make sure
spring energy is released completely before thread
disengagement.

6.8 Standard assembling and disassembling procedures shall not

require special tools.
