Technology Comparison
Summary

This report displays waste tyre processing equipment technologies manufactured by 17 different companies. While every effort was made to be accurate and
inclusive, some technologies may be missing, for which EER Limited takes responsibility. Generally, the primary & secondary shredding technologies are divided into
five categories:

• Primary shredding is by a rotary shear, secondary shredding is a twin shaft machine;

• Primary and secondary shredding machines have twin shafts, operating as a slow speed shears;

• Technology providers offering multiple shaft configurations;

• Primary and secondary shredding machines have twin shafts and segmented knives, operating at slow speed; and

• Primary shredding machines have a single shaft operating against fixed knives.

Waste tyre processing starts with a type of slow shearing where the force of the machinery depends upon hydraulics and high gear ratios to tear and cut the tyres,
that often have bead wire in excess of 12mm wide, then increase their power and rotational speed as the material gets smaller and metal and fibre are
removed/separated. Additionally, although heat is a by-product of all cutting/shearing/shredding, the heat intensifies as the speeds increase and the material size
diminishes. It is extremely important that machinery be installed and operated according to the manufacturers’ instructions and specifications, and in accordance with
all EU and UK health and safety regulations.
