Duties and Experience as English Dept. Chair/Faculty


• Designed lessons and unit plans with objectives aligned in accordance with Common Core and English
• Language Development Standards, utilizing ongoing formal/informal assessments to reflect upon need for
adapting this instruction.
• Differentiated instruction for English Language Learners (ELL) and students with special needs, including
students with ADHD and autism; worked with teachers and with the Director of Student Learning Services to
formulate strategies to meet these needs.
• Actively engaged in numerous Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings for students with special needs, working
with parents, counselors, and special education teachers to help assess and meet student needs.
• Demonstrated commitment to continued professional and personal, pedagogical growth through active
participation in professional development opportunities, staff and department meetings: writing across the
curriculum, standards based and deemphasized grade/score studies, bilingual conferences, and other school events
with parents and teachers.
• Provides additional after-school tutoring and individualized attention on campus for students struggling with
coursework across curriculum.
• Developed and implemented AP and Honors course prerequisites.
• Standardized curriculum map, writing rubrics and lesson plan templates for all four grade levels.
• Developed and implemented department wide Independent Author Project. A four year honors and AP program
that adds independent rigor, comprehension and fluency opportunities for students in addition to the regular
curriculum.
• Performs teacher observations and evaluations regularly and follows up with teachers to ensure support and
mentorship.
• Sits on Academic Council. Board of department chairs that work to ensure the the implementation and transfer of
school wide learning expectations and initiatives in content area curriculum. Initiate and maintain cross-
curricular, grade level and department specific conversations/relationships.
• Created a-g approved courses: Yearbook, Journalism and Language Lab including curriculum maps for both. The
Language Lab is specific to students who enter 9th grade below reading and comprehension level. Similar to a
pre-algebra course this course supports reading and comprehension skills across content area to bring students up
to grade level proficiency.
