Instructions
* Attempt all questions.
* Paper A has Two Parts I and II. Each question of Part I carries 2 marks and each
question of part II caries 4 marks.
* Calculators and log tables are not permitted.

PART – I

1. A telescope, when in normal adjustment, has a magnifying power of 6 and the objective and eye-
piece are 14 cm apart. Find the focal lengths of the eye-piece and the objective.

2. A light falls on a transparent glass plate of refractive index 3 (with respect to air). If the reflected and
refracted rays are mutually perpendicular, what is the angle of incidence.

3. A Saturn year is 29.5 times the earth year. How far is the Saturn from the sun if the earth is 1.5  108
km away from the sun?

4. Find the potential difference between B and D in the adjacent circuit.

5. A charged particle is moving in uniform magnetic field in a circular path. The radius of circular path is
R. If the kinetic energy of the particle is doubled, then the find new radius.

6. A simple microscope has a magnifying power of 3 when the image is formed at the near point (25 cm)
of a normal eye.
(a) What is its focal length?
(b) What will be its magnifying power if the image is formed at infinity ?

7. An explosion blows a rock in to three parts. Two pieces of mass 1 kg and 2 kg go off at right angle to
each other; 1 kg piece with a velocity of 12 m/sec and 2 kg piece with a velocity of 8 m/sec. The third
piece flies off with a velocity 40 m/sec. Compute the mass of third part of rock.
8. A soldier jumps out from an aeroplane with parachute, after dropping through a distance of 19.6 m, he
opens the parachute and decelerates at the rate of 1 m/s2. If he reaches the ground with a speed of
4.6 m/s, how long was he in air?

9. A 1200 kg automobile rounds a level curve of radius 200 m, on an unbanked road with a velocity of 72
km/hr. What is the minimum co-efficient of friction between the tyres and road in order that the
automobile may not skid. (g = 10 m/s2)

10. A uniform chain of mass m and length l is kept on the table with a part
of it overhanging (see figure ) . If the coefficient of friction between the ( x)
1
table and the chain is then find the maximum length of the chain that
3
can overhang such that the chain remain in equilibrium. x

PART – II
11. A ball is dropped from a height of 19.6 m above the ground. It rebounds from the ground and rises
itself upto the same height. Take the starting point as origin and vertically downward as the positive
x- axis. Draw approximate plot of x (displacement) versus t, v (velocity) versus t, and a (acceleration)
versus t. Neglect the small interval during which the ball was in contact with the ground.

12. A cubical block is floating inside a bath. The temperature of system is increased Coeff. of linear
expn. = 
by small temperature T. It was found that the depth of submerged portion of
cube does not change. Find the relation between coefficient of linear expansion
x
() of the cube and volume expansion of liquid ().
Coeff. of volume
expn. = 

13. In the circuit given circuit, find the value of E and R. R 2.25 A
1.5 A
R 30 

14. A person uses + 1.5 D glasses to have normal vision from 25 cm onwards. He uses a 20 D lens as a
simple microscope to see an object. Calculate the maximum magnifying power, If he uses the
microscope (a) together with his glasses (b) without the glasses.

15. A current of 10A flows around a closed path in a circuit which is in D

the horizontal plane as shown in the figure. The circuit consists of
r2 C
eight alternating areas of radii r1 = 0.08m and r2 = 0.12m. Each arc
subtends the same angle at the centre. Find the magnetic field
A
produced by this circuit at the centre. r1
