• On 31st May 2018, the two-day thematic seminar on Water and Sanitation started in Pune,
Maharashtra.It was hosted by the Ministry of Finance, Government of India along with Research and
Information System (RIS) for Developing Countries as Knowledge Partner along with AIIB,FICCI and
MCCIA.
• On 1st June 2018, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh launched an Online Analytical Tool to enable
better monitoring of the flow and usage of foreign contributions received by organisations registered or
permitted under the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010.It consists of analytical features to
perform big data mining and data exploration.
• On June 1, 2018, the Minister for Woman and Child Development Ms. Maneka Gandhi launched India’s
first Advanced Forensic Lab in Chandigarh.The lab is called ‘Sakhi Suraksha Advanced DNA Forensic
Laboratory’.The labs are categorized to 4 units: a. Sexual Assault and Homicide Unit, b. Paternity Unit, c.
Human Identification Unit, d. Mitochondrial Unit.
• On June 1, 2018, the government of Andhra Pradesh announced that it will give allowance to the state’s
unemployed youth.Each person will be given Rs. 1000 on a monthly basis.The total outlay of the scheme
is Rs.1200 crore.The Upper Limit of the scheme is 35 years.
• On 31st May 2018, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu launched the 3rd year of
Chandranna Bima Yojana, in Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh.Aam Admi Bima Yojana, Pradhana Manthri
Jeevana Jyothi Bima Yojana, Pradhana Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana and the Individual Accident Bima
Policy of the State government are a part of this insurance scheme.The total policy amount will be paid
by Andhra Pradesh government. The beneficiaries need to pay only Rs. 15 per year.
• On June 1, 2018, the government of Odisha launched a health insurance scheme ‘ Gopabandhu
Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana’ for journalists.In the first phase 3233 working journalistswould be
covered to upto Rs. 2 lakh a year.Under this scheme at least five members of the journalist’s family
would be covered.
• On June 1, 2018, The government of Haryana has launched One-Stop centres for women affected by
violence in all its districts.The Seven districts which already have the OSCs are : Karnal, Bhiwani,
Gurugram , Faridabad, Hisar, Rewari and Narnual.One Stop Centres are completely funded by the
Nirbhaya Fund by the centre.
• On June 1, 2018, The Ministry of Culture launched a new scheme called ‘Seva Bhoj Yojana’ with an
objective to reimburse the central government of CGST and IGST to reduce the financial burden of the
religious institutions who serve neccessities to the public / devotee free of cost without
discrimination.The eligible institutions must be registered with the Darpan Portal.
• On June 2,2018, the President of India Shri Ram Nath Kovind would preside over the two-
day 49th Conference of Governers and Lt. Governers which will be held in June 4-5 2018 at Rashtrapati
Bhavan.The Fourth session will be regarding the steps to be taken on the report of ‘Rajyapal – Vikas ke
Rajdoot Catalytic Role of Governors as Agents for Change in Society’.
• On 2nd June 2018, as a part of activities for the World Environment Day 2018, National Mission for Clean
Ganga (NMCG) along with Yes Bank organised a cleanliness drive at Kalindi Kunj ghat on river
Yamuna in New Delhi.
• On June 2 , 2018, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare announced that India has made huge
progress in coconut cultivation from mid 2014- 2018 .India became the leading country in coconut

production and productivity.India has been exporting coconut oil to Malaysia,Indonesia, Sri Lankasince
April 2017.
• On June 2,2018, the Ministry of Earth Sciences launched a new forecast model called the Ensemble
Prediction System (EPS).To give accurate and area specific forecast of extreme weather events like rain,
heat wave and cold wave.The EPS has been developed by IMD,NCMRWF & MoES.The introduction of a
new supercomputer of 8.0 petaflops produced at a cost of Rs.450 was responsible for the new EPS.
• On June 2,2018, Under the Supreme Court’s order of February 13th the Centre formed a Cauvery Water
Management Authority (CWMA).The CMA would comprise a Chairman, a Secretary and 8members. Out
of the 8 members,2 each will be full and part time members and the rest would be part time members
from the four states concerned.
• On June 2,2018, The government of Andhra Pradesh has launched a Zero Based Natural Farming
(ZBNF) scheme for benefitting the farmers by 2024.MOU was signed between the state’s agriculture
department and Sustainable India Finance Facility (SIFF).The investment for the ZBNF scheme is Rs.
16,134 crores over the next 6 years.
• On 5th June 2018, Minister of State for AYUSH (Independent Charge), Shripad Yesso Naik will inaugurate
the 3rd National Health Editors’ Conference on Yoga at Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga
(MDNIY) in New Delhi.A Workshop on “How to Manage Stress through Yoga” will be a main highlight of
the conference.
• On 3rd June 2018, Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off Humsafar Jodhpur Bandra Express at
Bhagat Ki Kothi Railway Station in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.He said that railway projects worth more than Rs
13,000 crore have been undertaken in Rajasthan currently.
• On June 1, 2018, NTPC adopted the Charminar in Hyderabad under the Swachh Iconic Places
Project.This is under Centre’s Swachh Bharat Mission.NTPC ltd and Hyderabad Municipal
Corporation has inked an MOU for development and beautification of the Charminar gate.This project is
under Corporate Social Responsibility and NTPC is contributing Rs. 8.19 crore for beautification
within 9 months of signing the act .
• On June 3, 2018, the state government of Gujrat has launched a dedicated ambulance service for
infants,with an objective to prevent the death of newborns due to lack of emergency medical facilities in
health centres.This service is under the ‘Neonatal ambulance service project for inter-hospital transfer’.
• On June 3, 2018, Telangana State Forest Development Corporation (TSFDC) has launched two eco-
tourism projects in the state.One will be developed in Chintaguda Village of Mancherial
district near Kawal Tiger reserve. 6 acres of land has been allotted for this.Another will be developed in
the back waters of Nagarjuna Sagar at Vizag Colony in 15 acres of land has been allotted for this.
• On 4th June 2018, the second edition of Oxford University Press' (OUP) South Asia Conclave will be
conducted.Issues related to politics, business and healthcare etc. will be discussed. Issues specific to
South Asia will be focused.The conference will be chaired by Ashutosh Varshney, professor of Political
Science and Director of the Center for Contemporary South Asia, Brown University.
• On June 4, 2018, World Environment Day is celebrated annually worldwide on June 5 and to support it
this year , the Union Minister of Culture and Environment Mr. Mahesh Sharma. The declaration is
called ‘Taj Declaration to Beat Plastic Pollution’.This decision was taken by the Union and State
government and applies to the 100 ‘Adarsh’ monuments across the country.Earlier to the declaration
there was a ‘Clean Yamuna Programme’.
• On June 4, 2018, 13 beaches will be given Blue Flag certification for being clean and environment
friendly. This was announced by Project head of SICOM Mr. Arvind Nautiyal in a five day conference
ahead of World Environment Day.The 13 beaches are : Chandra Bhaga beach of Odisha (first to get the
flag in the lot), konark coast; Maharashtra’s Chiwla and Bhogave beaches; one beach from
Puducherry,Goa,Daman & Diu,Lakshadweep & Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
• On June 4, 2018, Ministry of Agriculture announced the launch of ‘Krishi Kalyan Abhiyaan’ from June 1
2018 till july 31st 2018.This is in line with PM Modi’s vision of doubling the farmers’ income by
2020.The krishi kalian abhiyaan will take place across 25 villages in Aspirational Districts identified by
the Ministry of Rural Development with the help of NITI Aayog.
• On June 4, 2018, A volunteer workforce of 427 trained volunteers have been given the task to boost the
biodiversity and raise awareness among the states along the river Ganga.The group is called ‘Ganga
Praharis’.They will work along the ganga basin spreading across the states of : Uttar Pradesh,
Uttarakhanad, Jharkhanad, Bihar and West Bengal.

• On 4th June 2018, the State Environment Ministers Conference in the run-up to World Environment Day
was held in New Delhi. Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Dr. Mahesh Sharma and other officials released The State of
Environment Report 2015.National Geographic’s plastic wrapper-free magazine (India, US and UK
editions) was released.The awards were presented to:
 Dr. S.R Yadav for Plant Taxonomy
 Dr. P.T Cherian for Animal Taxonomy
 Dr. S. Sivaji for Microbial Taxonomy.
• On 4th June 2018, Minister of State of Railways, Rajen Gohain flagged off a new Antyodaya train named
22841/22842 Santragachi-Chennai Central Antyodaya Express (Weekly) from Kolkata.The coaches of
the Antyodaya Express are fully unreserved LHB second class coaches.
• On 4th June 2018, Union Environment Minister Harsh Vardhan released 'Status of Environment Report,
India 2015' at the state environment ministers's conference held in New Delhi, as per which, India's
forest cover was 21.34 % in 2015.Forests and tree cover jointly contribute nearly 24.16 % of India's
geographical area.
• On 4th June 2018, 15 projects were approved under Trade Infrastructure for Export Scheme (TIES) of
commerce ministry to develop infrastructure for promoting exports.The total scheme outlay is Rs 600
crore. Out of this Rs 80 crore was provided in 2017-18. During then current fiscal year another Rs 80
crore will be offered.The scheme has been launched for three years up to 2020.
• On 4th June 2018, Union Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Road Transport & Highways,
Shipping, Mansukh L. Mandaviya, launched the ‘JANAUSHADHI SUVIDHA’, the Oxo-biodegradable
Sanitary Napkin, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP).
• On 5th June 2018, On Ministry of MSME and Ministry of AYUSH signed an MoU in New Delhi, to create
synergies through institutions and schemes of both ministries for development of AYUSH enterprises in
India.The objective of this tie up is to develop India as a world leader in “Holistic Healthcare”.
• On June 5, 2018, Inspired by the ‘Make in India’ initiative of the central government , the Union Minister
of State (Independent Charge) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS
PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, DrJitendra Singh mooted the
initiative named : ‘Make in Northeast’ .
• On 4th June 2018, Jammu and Kashmir government is to host its first ever "global investors meet" in the
end of July 2018 in Srinagar, focused on harnessing hydro power potential of 20,000 mega watts in
Jammu Kashmir.
• On June 5, 2018, National Minorities and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has joined hands
with 4 agencies of Jammu and Kashmir government to work for the empowerment of minorities .These
agencies would provide term loans, micro finance for particular categories and loans to students and
women.
• On June 5, 2018, the state government of Haryana announced a hike of 2% on the Dearness Allowance
(DA) .This is effective from January 1 , 2018.This would increase the DA from 5% to 7%.This would
create a burden of Rs. 309.54 crore in the state exchequer for January 2018 to February 2019 .
• On June 6, 2018, the Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister NarendraModi approved the
following initiatives:

• On 6th June 2018, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated a web portal named
Continuous Medical Education (CME) to offer information and suggestions related to exact treatment
received by patients for various health issues.
• On 6th June 2018, Minister of State(IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, R K Singh chaired the
‘Review, Planning and Monitoring (RPM) Meeting’ with the Secretaries of Power/Energy Departments
of the States/UTs and Managing Directors of the Power Utilities. Presentations were done by various
State officials. ‘Feeder Manager Awards’ for reduction in AT&C losses were presented by Sanjiv Nandan
Sahai, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power.
• On 5th June 2018, The Ministry of Women and Child Development conducted a day-long National
Consultation on Child Protection in New Delhi.The objective of this event is to obtain information and
expertise from all related stakeholders on crime against children.
• The Indian government has formed a group to study the Special Economic Zones (SEZ) Policy of India,
headed by Baba Kalyani.The SEZ Policy was implemented from 1st April 2000. The Special Economic
Zones Act, 2005 was passed by Parliament in May, 2005.It received Presidential assent on 23rd June
2005 and the Special Economic Zone Act was enacted. The SEZ Act 2005, supported by SEZ Rules, was
brought into act on 10th February 2006.
• On June 6,2018, The 11th edition of Geo-Intelligence Asia 2018 was organized at Manekshaw
Centre in New Delhi. This event was organized by Geo Spatial Media and Communication in association
with Directorate General of Information System as knowledge partners.The theme of this year’s event
: ‘GeoSpatial : A Force Multiplier for Defence and Industrial Security’.
• On June 6, 2018, the state government of Bihar launched new crop insurance scheme . This decision was
taken by a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Mr. Nitish Kumar.The name of the scheme is : ‘Bihar
State Crop Assistance scheme’. Under this scheme the farmers would get a compensation of Rs7500 per
hectare if less than 20% of the crop is damaged .
• On June 5, 2018, The government of Uttarakhand announced that it would ban use of polythene bags
fom July 31st 2018.This is inspired by Governments campaign against plastic use ‘Beat Plastic
Pollution’ that was launched ahead of World Environment Day.Along with Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu,
Nagaland, Maharashtra, Jharkhand also declared the ban.
• On June 6, 2018, Uttar Pradesh government to set up police station in every district .State cabinet has
also decided to declare Nagar Palika Vrindavan and Nagar Panchayats Barsana, Gokul, Govardhan,
Nandgaon, Radhakund and Baldev as no liquor areas. This places are under Mathura District .

• On June 6, 2018, Government of Madhya Pradesh launched a outstanding power bill waiver
scheme for poor and families of labourers.The name of the bill is : ‘Bijli Bill Mafi Yojana 2018 (Power
Bill Waiver Scheme)’.Another Yojana called : ‘Mukhyamantri Jan Kalyan (Sambal) Yojana 2018’.
• India has achieved a remarkable decline in Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) with 22 % reduction in
such deaths since 2013, as per the Sample Registration System (SRS) bulletin released on 6th June
2018.Uttar Pradesh has topped the list in reduction of maternal deaths with 30 % decline.Kerala,
Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu have already met the SDG target for MMR of 70 per 1,00,000.
• On June 7, 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hold a video conference on Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya
Janaushadhi Pariyojona (PMBJP) and affordable Cardiac Stents and Knee Implants .The aim of the
‘Samvad’ or interaction was to get the feedback and to know the progress of the schemes for the poor
patients .
• On June 7, 2018, The Advisory Committee under the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development
and Ganga Rejuvenation approved 2major irrigation/multipurpose projects and 4 flood
management schemes/master plans with a cumulative cost of Rs. 84,748 crore from six States/ UT in its
meeting held in New Delhi.
• On June 7, 2018, President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated 73km long National Highway in Tripura .This
national highway will connect Matabati to Udaipur-Sabroom.
• On June 7, 2018 , The operation NISTAR was successful and 38 Indian Nationals were successfully
evacuated from the Socotra Island. This operation was performed by Indian Naval Ship Sunayana .
• On June 7, 2018, Shri Ashwani Lohani , Chairman, Railway Board has launched a document called “
Guidebook for creating a child friendly and protective environment for children in contact with
Railways” developed by National Commission for protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) . This was
launched at an event in collaboration with Railway Children India at the Habitat World.
• On 7th June 2018, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh felicitated sports persons in Srinagar, Jammu &
Kashmir.The following are the sports persons who were felicitated: Parvez Rasool (cricket), Manzoor
Ahmad Pandav (cricket), Mehraj Uddin Wadoo (football), Real Kashmir Club (football), Ms Palak Kaur
(gymnastics) and Ms Balween Kaur (gymnastics).
• On 6th June 2018, a new portal with single window facility for job seekers and employers was launched
in Kerala.The facility was conceived and developed by Kerala Academy for Skills Excellence
(KASE). LinkedIn, a social media platform, has also been associated with this portal.
• On 6th June 2018, Chief Election Commissioner O.P. Rawat, Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and
Ashok Lavasa launched the online RTI Portal of Election Commission of India.This online portal will
help applicants looking for information under the Right to Information Act.

• On June 7, 2018, After the announcement of the ‘Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Jojona’ of the
Odisha government for the health insurance of working journalists, a few extra measures were taken
.An assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to the family of the journalist in the event of death.
• On June 7, 2018, The City of Hyderabad in Telengana has ranked third in The most sound polluted city
list .It is also considered among the top 10 most air polluted metropolitan cities.

INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS
• On May 31,2018,India ranked 113 out of 175 Countries in the Save the Children’s “ End of Childhood
Index 2018”.The index is a part of a report : ‘The Many faces of Exclusion’.In 2017,India ranked 116 out
of 172 countries and In 2018 India ranked 113. US ranks 36th,Russia ranks 37th, China ranks 40th .
Singapore and Slovenia is at the top of the chart sharing 1st place and Niger is at the bottom.This has
been launched to celebrate International Children’s Day in June 1.
• This 3 nation tour is to strengthen better cooperation with the ASEAN nations on the wake of China’s
domination in the South Asian Region.
• On May 30,2018 , India and Indonesia has signed to develop strategic Indian Ocean Port to set up
defence and maritime cooperation.The two nations also signed pacts on cooperation in pharmaceuticals
and technology industries.
• On May 29,2018, Indian company TATA and CII inks pact with Indonesian company.
TATA and PT Pindad in Indonesia has signed the MOU to collaborate for the supply of TATA trucks in
Indonesia for defence related equipments.MOU between PT Pindad and Bhukanvala in the area of
infrastructure and defence .

Sabang.This would promote trade , tourism , people- to –people contact.
• On May 31,2018, PM Modi met his Malaysian counterpart 92 year old Mahathir Mohammad.
The Two leaders discussed about the various economic and cultural relations .
• On May 31,2018, PM Modi visited the Innovation exhibition in Singapore.The India- Singapore
Enterprise and Innovation Exhibitions at the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre . This showcased
new technologies such as AI, fintech and innovation for social impact.
• On May 31, 2018, Modi launched three Indian payment apps in Singapore.These apps were Rupay Card,
BHIM app and SBI app.These were launched in ‘Business, Innovation and Community Event’.
• On May 31,2018, India and Singapore inked 14 MOUs.A total of 14 Mous were inked in a business cum
community event called ‘Anushasanam’.
• On June 1,2018, India will launch a tri-lateral exercise with Singapore .India and Singapore have signed
implementation agreement between their navies concerning mutual coordination, logistics and services
support for naval ships', submarines and naval aircraft.
• On June 2, 2018, the PM of India would address the Shangri-La Dialogue which is an annual security
meet among 28 Asia –Pacific states.In the 2018 Dialogue the IISS convened the 17th Asia Security
Summit: The IISS Shangri-La Dialogue, from 1-3 June 2018 in Singapore.
• On June 1,2018, PM modi gave Padma Shri award to former Singaporean Diplomat.This was given to Mr.
Tommy koh. The Padma Shri is India’s highest civilian award .
• On June 2, 2018, an orchid was named after PM Modi.To mark his visit to the National Orchid Garden of
Singapore.The tropical, which produces upright inflorences up to 38 cm long, has been named
Dendrobrium Narendra Modi. It is of dark purple color.
• On June 2, 2018, PM Modi unveils Mahatma Gandhi plaque at Clifford Pier in Singapore.To
commemorate the immersion of Mahatma Gandhi's ashes in the country's waterswhich were sent to
Singapore around 1948.
• On 2nd June 2018, Saudi Arabia announced a cabinet reshuffle with main focus on culture and religion.
This is the second major government change since the appointment of Prince Mohammed bin Salman,

top 5 nations in producing e-waste.The other countries besides India are : China , US, Japan and

Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) is held in Belawan, Indonesia.The opening ceremony of IND-INDO CORPAT

26th May to 2nd June 2018.
• On 6th June 2018, Myanmar and U.N. agencies signed a MoU for the eventual return of some of the
700,000 Rohingya Muslims who fled from Myanmar due to brutal attacks of Mynamar’s security forces
and have camped now in Bangladesh.Knut Ostby, U.N. Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in
Myanmar, has said that, this agreement is an important first step in resolving this issue.
• One June 7, 2018, According to a report of Economics and Peace in Sydney Australia, India moved
up 4 places to rank 137th on the Global Peace Index 2018.The number of countries ranked
is 163.Iceland got the top rank . It has been ranked the most peaceful country from 2008.New
Zealand is 2nd , Austria is 3rd , Portugal is 4th and Denmark is 5th.The 5 least peaceful countries
are:Afghanistan (162nd ), South Sudan, Iraq and Somalia. Syria being the least peaceful country
ranking 163rd.
• On 6th June 2018, fifteenth edition of the QS World University Rankings was released by higher
education analysts QS Quacquarelli Symonds.IIT Delhi is in rank 172 (same rank as that of last year). IIT
Bombay has improved 17 ranks and has been placed in 162nd spot.IISc has also moved up 20 ranks and
reached rank 170 in 2019. Total number of Indian universities in the top 1,000 has increased from 20 to
24.The top 5 universities in QS World University Rankings 2019 is as follows:

• On June 7, 2018, World’s first European Pressurized Reactor (EPR) nuclear reactor started its
operations in Taishan , in Southern China. It is being managed by China General Nuclear Power
Corporation .There are two reactors called : Taishan 1 and Taishan 2 and are of the same technology as
EPRs in France and Finland. Taishan 1 will commence in a few weeks and Taishan 2 will start from
2019.

BANKING & FINANCE

• On June 2,2018, International Monetory Fund (IMF) released its loan of $252 million to the island
nation of Srilanka.This loan is a part of a deal of amount $1.5 billionthat was to be loaned by the IMF to
SriLanka.It has accumulated loss and debts of over $ 2 billion .
• On June 2,2018, India’s major banks SBI, PNB and ICICI bank raised the lending rate making the loans
costlier.They increased their benchmark lending rate (MCLR) by 10basis points or by 0.1 %.
• SBI has increased its lending rate by 10 basis points for all tenors upto 3 years.
The MCLR for overnight and one month tenors is for 7.9% and for the three years tenor is 8.45%.
• PNB has raised tenors for 3 and 5 years to 8.55% and 8.7%.PNB has also raised the base rate of 9.15%
to 9.25%.
• ICICI has raised MCLR for 5 year tenors to 8.70% and also changed tenors for three and one
year.Lending rates for three month tenors of ICICI remains unchanged .
• HDFC has raised the Retail Prime lending rate (RPLR) by 10 basis points .

• Karnataka Bank has raised interest rates on Deposits.Interest on domestic and NRE rupee term
deposits for a period of one year to two years stands revised to 7.25 per cent from 7.10 (for deposits up
to Rs 10 crore) representing a hike of 15 basis points.

The theme for this years Financial Literacy week has been declared by RBI as : Consumer

loss of Rs. 21,646.38 crore in the financial year end of March 31.
• On June 3, 2018, Citi Bank becomes the first corporate bank to make use of UK’sOpen Banking
regime.Citi Bank is the first to enroll as “Payment Initiation Service Provider”.This would enable it to
receive small payments directly from UK’s customer bank accounts without debit or credit cards.
• On June 6, 2018, a 6 member committee headed by RBI governor Urijit Patel will announce second bi-
monthly Monetory Policy of 2018-19 . It is the first time this will be a three day meeting .In April, the
repo and reverse repo rate was unchanged at 6% and 5.75%. RBI predicted the GDP to grow by 7.4%
for FY19 .
• On June 6, 2018, Bank of Baroda increased its Marginal Cost-Based Lending Rate (MCLR) by 5 basis
points.This would come into effect from June 7,2018.

Finance and Capital First Securities with the company.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its no
objection for the voluntary merger of Capital First Ltd, Capital First Home Finance Ltd and Capital First
Securities Ltd with IDFC Bank.
• On June 6, 2018, World Bank approved an amount of Rs. 6000 crore for the implementation of Atal
Bhujal Yojana.The Atal Bhujal Yojana is under the Ministry of Water Resources , River Development and
Ganga Rejuvination .It would be implemented from 2018-19 to 2022-23 for a period of 5 years.This
scheme has been recommended by the Expenditure Finance Committee.
• On June 6, 2018, World Bank predicts India’s GDP growth to be 7.3% for FY19.India is expected to grow
by 7.3% in FY19 and 7.5% in FY20.This was released in World Bank’s ‘Global Economic
Prospect’ report. China is expected to slow down slightly from 6.9 per cent in 2017 to 6.5 per cent in
2018, 6.3 per cent in 2019 and 6.2 per cent in 2020.
• On June 7, 2018 ,RBI announced a relaxation of 180 days for MSMEs who are not classified as ‘Non-
Performing’.MSMEs which were standard as on August 31, 2017, shall continue to be classified as
standard by banks and NBFCs if the payments due as on September 1, 2017, and falling due thereafter
up to December 31, 2018, were paid not later than 180 days from their original due date .
• World Bank (WB) has projected that the Indonesian economy will grow 5.20 % this year.This projection
is more than the Indonesian government's projection of 5.18 %.World Bank has said that private
consumption and investment would strengthen. World Bank country director for Indonesia, Rodrigo A
Chaves said that, the investment growth is still high, considering the increasing prices of commodities.

• Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has revised the VIKALP scheme,enabling
wait-listed passengers who booked tickets from counters to choose the alternate train accommodation

• On June 1,2018, the Income Tax Department issued revised Income Tax Informants Reward Scheme
2018 with an Objective to increase public participation with the IT department to unearth black money
and reduce tax evasion.Under this scheme a person upon giving specific information about tax
evasionto the Investigation Directorate of the IT department can be rewarded upto Rs. 50 lakhs.
• A new reward scheme named “Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme, 2018” has been
introduced by the Income Tax Department.Under the Benami Transactions Informants Reward Scheme,
2018, a person can receive reward up to Rs. 1 crore for offering specific information in prescribed
manner to the Joint or Additional Commissioners of Benami Prohibition Units (BPUs) in Investigation
Directorates of Income Tax Department.
• On June 1, 2018, a co-founder of Citrus Mr. Satyen Kothari has launched his new venture of an app that
can sweep funds between bank a/cs and Mutual Funds.The app is called ‘Cube Wealth’.Cube
with Zerodha and other asset management companies has come up with the solution of fund transfer
services.
• On June 1,2018, the fourth largest Indian software company HCL signs collaboration agreement with
JDA Software.The aim of the agreement is to provide a seamless customer experience .JDA would use
HCL’s market coverage for better offerings of new features and functionality for new and existing

• On June 3, 2018, the global financial services major Morgan Stanley reported that India would become
a leader in shared mobility by 2030.This would increase the shared miles by 35% to 50% of all miles
travelled in India by 2040.In 2017, 10% of a total of 257 million miles have been travelled by shared
mobility and this trend would increase to 35% by 2030.
• On June 3, 2018, Ministry of Environment , Forest and Climate Change and The Energy and Resources
Institute (TERI) has inked MOU to set up a resource efficiency cell.
The initiative taken in the MOU has been launched by Secretary, MoEFCC, Shri CK Mishra and Director
General, TERI, Dr Ajay Mathur, at an event at Vigyan Bhawanin Delhi.
• On June 3, 2018, India would import its first ever LNG from Russia on June 4, 2018.
India considered the fourth largest buyer of Liquefied Natural gas.GAIL India Ltd. will be importing the
LNG from Gazprom at Petronet LNG.The further break up of the 2.5 million tonnes is : 0.5 MT in 2018-
19 , 0.75 in 2019-20, and 1.5 MT in 2020-21.

Chartered Accountants (SAICA) have signed an agreement to set up a framework for recognizing
members easier and encourage mobility of professionals between both countries, at the SAICA head
office in Johannesburg.
• Hindustan Unilever has decided to merge its foods and refreshments business into one division with
effect from July 2018.Geetu Verma, existing executive director for foods will be shifted to Rotterdam as

Forthsky of Philippines was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).Vaishnavi Yadav of Uttar Pradesh
was awarded the 'Girls Grit Award'.
• On 2nd June 2018, Kagiso Rabada, the world's number one Test bowler, was named as South Africa's
Cricketer of the Year.This is his second Cricketer of the Year award. He already won the award in
2016.Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, Makhaya Ntini and AB de Villiers are also two-time winners of this
award.
• Priyanka Das from Assam has been appointed as ambassador for 'promote science' initiative in France
to encourage girls to pursue scientific careers."For Girls and Science" initiative was introduced in 2014
to promote scientific careers among youth, mainly girls.
• On 5th June 2018, four-year old Ayan Gogoi Gohain of North Lakhimpur district, Assam was honoured
with the 'Youngest Author of India' title by The India Book of Records.He has been honoured with this
title for his book 'Honeycomb'.
• On 6th June 2016, Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli's wax statue was unveiled at Madame Tussauds in
New Delhi.Virat Kohli's statue was crafted using more than 200 measurements and photographs
obtained during the sitting session.Wax statues of other sport legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Kapil Dev,
and Lionel Messi are also present in Madame Tussauds.
• The annual list of the world's 100 highest-paid athletes 2018 has placed Virat Kohli at the 83rd
spot with a total earnings of 24 million dollars in the last 12 months.He has earned 4 million dollars
through salary and winnings and 20 million dollars through brand endorsements.Second place is
occupied by football player Lionel Messi with 111 million dollar earnings.
• India cricket captain Virat Kohli will be presented the Polly Umrigar Award for the best international
cricketer (2016-17 and 2017-18)at the BCCI Awards that will be held in Bengaluru on 12th June
2018.Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana will be awarded the best international cricketer
(women) for the 2016-17 and 2017-18seasons respectively. They will be the first recipients of this
award.
• Indian actor Anupam Kher will be presented the Lifetime Achievement honour at the 19th edition of
International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards ceremony in Bangkok on 24th June 2018.He has
received two National Film Awards and eight Filmfare Awards.He has served as chairman of the Central
Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama in India.

caretaker prime minister till general elections on 25th July 2018.Pakistan President Mamnoon
Hussain administered the oath to Nasirul Mulk. Nasirul Mulk is 67 years old.
• On June 1, 2018, Lieutenant General Devraj Anbu has been appointed as the Vice Chief of Army Staff for
the Southern Command.Lt. General Ranbir Singh took over the northern command after the
appointment .

Marcos Paqueta as their head coach.He also guided the team of Saudi Arabia in 2006 World Cup.He has

Rajoy. Mariano Rajoy was stepped down due to a corruption scandal.
• On 2nd June 2018, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi was sworn in for a second 4 year term as Egyptian
President.Earlier he was army chief. He ousted Egypt's first freely elected president Mohamed Morsi
after mass street protests in 2013 and won his first presidential term in 2014.
• On 1st June 2018, Palo Alto Networks Inc, a Cybersecurity firm, appointed former SoftBank Group Corp
president Nikesh Arora as chief executive officer and chairman.He replaces Mark McLaughlin as CEO
and chairman of Palo Alto Networks Inc.He worked with SoftBank from 2014 to 2016.
• Anjani Kumar Singh, the former Bihar chief secretary has been appointed the Advisor, Policy and
Programme Implementation, to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.He retired in February 2018. But he
was given an extension for 3 months.
• ITI Limited announced that K Alagesan has taken additional charge as its Chairman and Managing
Director on 31st May 2018.He has been working for ITI Limited since January 1982. He joined the
company as assistant executive engineer.
• On 1st June 2018, M Venkatesh took charge as the Managing Director & CEO of Mangalore Refinery and
Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).It is a subsidiary of Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC).He succeeds H Kumar.
Earlier M Venkatesh was Director (Refineries) at MRPL.
• On June 4, 2018, Mr. Vijay Mahajan has been selected as the Secretary and CEO of Rajiv Gandhi
Foundation(RGF) and the Director of Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies (RGICS).He is a

an ethnic Indian lawyer, as new attorney general.He is the first minority to become attorney general in
55 years.

Bureau (IB) additional director Malay Kumar Sinha as Non-Executive Independent Director on the
Board.He has served in several positions in Uttar Pradesh Police, Intelligence Bureau and the Ministry

• Derrick Pereira, FC Goa assistant head coach and former footballer, has taken charge as the new

• On 30th May 2018, India successfully performed the first test its new surface-to-air missile with nozzle
less booster powered by Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology, from launching complex-III of the
Integrated Test Range (ITR) off Odisha coast.The Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology was
developed by India in collaboration with Russia.

advanced Micro Navigation System (MINS).
• NASA, has said that, the world’s first mini-satellites to enter deep space, which were designed to
monitor NASA’s InSight Mars lander, have successfully oriented towards Mars. In the last week, two
CubeSats named MarCO-A and MarCO-B fired their propulsion systems to guide themselves toward
Mars.
• China has approved the first domestically developed, long-acting injectable HIV drug
named Albuvirtide.Albuvirtide has been approved by the China Food and Drug Administration. It can
block the fusion of the virus and host cell membranes, blocking the HIV life cycle in the earliest stage.

ENVIRONMENT
• Researchers have developed a new material that is capable of absorbing organic pollutants present in
water.The material is a type of phyllosilicate. Phyllosilicates are a subclass of silicates. The material has
been obtained from cation exchange with an organo-functionalised mica (C18-Mica-4).
• On 6th June 2018, Krishna Chowlu, an Arunachal Pradesh scientist with Botanical Survey of India (BSI)
said that, the flower Impatiens dorjeekhanduii was named after the former Arunachal Pradesh Chief
Minister Dorjee Khandu.
• The earliest known animal fossil footprints have been discovered by researchers in China.The fossil
footprints date back to nearly 635-541 million years. A study regarding this was published in the
journal Science Advances.

• On 1st June 2018, the ICC included Nepal, Netherlands, Scotland and the UAE in their ODI rankings list in
addition to the 12 existing countries.Scotland has been ranked in 13th position with 28 points . The
UAE has 18 points and has secured 14th position.The table is topped by England. India is ranked
second. Pakistan is in sixth place.
• On 2nd June 2018, BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) named Dinesh Karthik as replacement for
Wriddhiman Saha in the Afghanistan Test.
• On 3rd June 2018, Ariya Jutanugarn won the 73rd US Women's Open at the Shoal Creek, Alabama course,
United States.She hails from Bangkok. She has become the first player from Thailand to win a US
Women's Open title.Spain's Carlota Ciganda secured third place. American Danielle Kang was in fourth
position.
• On 7th June 2018, Mithali Raj became the first Indian cricketer to score 2000 runs in Twenty20
Internationals (T20I).Now she has 2,015 runs in 75 matches. She has become the seventh woman to
reach 2,000 runs.The list is topped by Charlotte Edwards (2,605), Stafanie Taylor (2,582) and Suzie
Bates (2,515).

• On 31st May 2018, Timothy Pereira, former football player passed away after a long term illness, in
Mumbai.He represented the Tata Football Club. He first played for Goan sports and State Bank.

United Nation. The initiative was launched 1974 and has the aim of spreading awareness about

was observed.UN also declared 2022 as the International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture,
to focus on small-scale fishermen and women who comprise 90 % of the world's fisheries work force.
• On 6th June 2018, UN Russian Language Day was observed.In 2010, this day was established by the
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).The UN Russian Language
Day coincides with the birthday of Aleksandr Pushkin, a Russian poet, who is called the father of
modern Russian literature.
