PART 1 GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A. This Section covers the furnishing and installation of all ornamental formed metal and
related accessories, whether shown on the Contract Drawings in detail or required in
general, to perform the intent to make a complete and operable facility.

B. This Section also covers furnishing of all labor, materials, tools and equipment
required by the Contractor to complete the work.

1.04 REFERENCES

A. The referred codes and standards are intended to provide an acceptable level of
quality for materials and products. In case of conflict between these standards and
the text of this Specification, the Specification text shall govern.

B. The latest revision of the referred codes and standards shall be used wherever
applicable. In case of conflict, the Contractor shall propose equipment conforming to

1.05 DEFINITIONS

A. brass: An alloy of copper and zinc, containing between 5 and 40% zinc.

B. bronze: Basically an alloy of copper and tin, additional elements may be added for
specific properties.

C. drawn tube: Tube brought to final dimensions by drawing through a die.

D. electroplating: The electrodeposition of an adherent metallic coating upon an


electrode for the purpose of securing a surface properties or dimensions different
from those of the basis metal.

E. extruded tube: Tube formed by hot extruding.

F. forging: Metal part worked to a predetermined shape by one or more processes


such as hammering, upsetting, pressing, rolling, etc.

G. seamless tube: A tube that does not contain any junctures (metallurgical welds)
resulting from the method of manufacture and may be produced by die or manrel, or
by hot piercer processes.

H. welded tube: Tube produced by forming and seam-welding sheet longitudinally.

1.06 SUBMITTALS

A. The Contractor shall submit to the Royal Commission, under the provisions of
SECTION 01330, the following items for review and approval before commencing
Work:

1. Product Data

a) The Contractor shall provide, prior to purchase, catalog cuts and


manufacturer’s data for all ornamental formed metal products to be
purchased, including finishing materials and methods, for review by the
Royal Commission.

2. Certifications

a) Material certificates shall be issued by the supplier, setting forth the type
and chemical composition of ornamental formed metals.

b) Certification that all materials and products furnished conforming to the


specified requirements.

3. Shop Drawings

a) Installation drawings for ornamental formed metals shall include


location, dimensions, size, and weight or thickness as applicable to
members.

b) Location and details of anchorage devices that are to be embedded in

cast-in-place concrete and masonry construction, and any other


pertinent construction and erection details.

4. Samples

a) Furnish 300 mm square or larger sheet samples, of each metal finish


required for approval by the Royal Commission.

b) Furnish 300 mm lengths of finished tube, pipe, strip, and bar including
typical welded intersections with finished joints.

c) Samples shall show each combination of mechanical and chemical


treatments to be used on alloy.

d) Samples shall indicate extremes when visible variation will occur.

e) Samples shall be prepared on metal of same alloy and gage.

f) Samples shall show typical welds, fasteners, screw, miters, and joints
for compatible finish.

g) Samples shall be furnished of fabricated trim, railings, display units, and


typical corner intersections.

5. Quality Control Program

a) Include method, materials, quality control and testing proposed for all
the work.

1.07 QUALITY CONTROL

A. The Contractor shall be responsible for the quality of work and shall develop and
propose programs and methods of construction and testing to achieve the specified
quality to the approval of the Royal Commission in accordance with
SECTION 01450.

B. Quality Assurance

1. Comply with the applicable provisions of the following codes, standards, and
specifications:

a) ASTM specified in this Section.

b) NAAMM, specified in this Section.

c) AWS specified in this Section.

2. Qualification for Welding Work

a) Welding processes and welding operators shall be qualified in


accordance with AWS B3.0.

3. Field Measurement

a) Field measurement shall be taken prior to fabrication to ensure proper


fitting of the work.

4. Shop Assembly

a) Items shall be preassembled in the shop to the greatest extent possible,


to minimize field splicing, welding, and assembly of units at the Project
site.

1.08 HEALTH AND SAFETY CONSIDERATIONS

A. All works undertaken in relation to this Specification are to be completed in full


accordance with the respective health and safety requirements established by the
following:

1. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

a) Legislation, Regulation, Standards and Codes.

2. Royal Commission Regulations

a) Standards, Contractual Conditions, and Health and Safety Systems.

3. Contractor

a) Health and Safety Standards and Systems as accepted by the Royal


Commission.

B. In the absence of any of the above, best accepted industry practice shall be
employed throughout.

1.09 PROJECT CONDITIONS

A. Field Measurements

1. Where ornamental metal is indicated to fit to other construction, dimensions of


other construction shall be verified by field measurements before fabrication
and indicate measurements on the Shop Drawings.

2. Fabrication schedule shall be coordinated with construction progress to avoid


delaying the work.

1.10 COORDINATION

A. Installation of anchorages for ornamental metal items shall be coordinated.

B. Setting drawings, templates, and directions for installing anchorages shall be


furnished, including sleeves, concrete inserts, anchor bolts, and items with integral

anchors, which are to be embedded in concrete or masonry.

C. Such items shall be delivered to Project site in time for installation.

1.11 DELIVERY, HANDLING AND STORAGE

A. The Contractor shall deliver, handle and store equipment and material units in
accordance with SECTIONS 01650 and 01660, as well as the following
requirements:

1. Items to be set in concrete or masonry including sleeves, anchor bolts, and


inserts shall be delivered in sufficient time and checked setting prior to
concrete placement.

2. Ornamental formed products shall be stored clear of the ground and covered
to avoid damage by inclement weather and construction activities.

3. Ornamental fabricated items shall be handled to protect surfaces and prevent


damage, during storage, erection, and construction operations.

4. Ornamental fabricated items shall be disassembled only to extent necessary


for shipping and handling limitations. Units shall be marked for re-assembly
and installation.

5. Protection

a) Protective adhesive coated film shall be provided to metal surfaces.

b) Finished work shall be protected by wrapping coating with blanket of


cotton or other soft material before applying plywood boards or strips.

c) Protective coatings which have been damaged during shipment or


installation work shall be restored.

d) Protection shall be removed when requested for inspection of finishes.

e) Protective coatings shall be removed at completion of the project or


when there is no danger of damage to ornamental formed metal work.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.01 GENERAL

A. All goods and products covered by these Specifications shall be procured, when
available, from an in-Kingdom manufacturer. Procurement of all goods and products
manufactured out-of-Kingdom must be approved by the Royal Commission.

B. Ornamental formed metals shall be of best commercial tempers, hardness, and


quality.

C. Materials shall be smooth and free from surface blemishes on exposed faces.
Exposed to view surfaces which exhibit pitting, seam marks, roller marks, oil-canning,
stains, discolorations, dents, or other imperfections shall not be acceptable.

D. Finished surfaces shall be suitable for polishing and shall comply with NAAMM,
“Metal Finishes Manual” for metal finishes and finish recommendations for the
materials specified.

2.02 MATERIAL

A. Steel

1. Steel Plates, Shapes, and Bars Carbon Structural Steel

a) Carbon structural steel shall conform to ASTM A36M.

2. Steel Plates Bent or Cold-Formed Low and Intermediate Tensile Strength


Carbon Steel Plates

a) Conform to ASTM A283M, Grade C.

3. Steel Bars, Carbon

a) Conform to ASTM A663M, merchant quality, mechanical properties.

4. Steel Bars, Carbon, Hot-Wrought

a) Conform to ASTM A675M, Grade 65, special quality, mechanical


properties.

5. Steel Bar, Carbon and Alloy

a) Conforming to ASTM A108, cold-finished.

6. Cold-Formed Carbon Steel Structural Tubing in Rounds and Shapes

a) Tubing shall conform to ASTM A500, welded and seamless.

7. Steel Tubing, Hot-Formed

a) Steel tubing shall conform to ASTM A501, welded or seamless,

8. Ferritic Malleable Iron Castings

B. Chromed Metal

1. Electrodeposited coatings of copper plus nickel plus chromium and nickel plus
chromium shall conform to ASTM B456, SC3.

C. Bronze or Brass Metal

1. Brass Sheet, Plate, Strip, and Rolled Bar

a) Conforming to ASTM B36M, alloy 230 or alloy 280, red brass, 85%
copper and 15% zinc.

2. Seamless Red Brass Pipe

a) Conform to ASTM B43, alloy 230, standard sizes.

3. Brass Wire

a) Brass wire shall conform to ASTM B134M, alloy 230.

4. Seamless Brass Tube

a) Seamless brass tube shall conform to ASTM B135M, alloy 230 or 280
as required for color.

5. Copper-Zinc-Lead Alloy (Leaded-Brass) Extruded Shapes

a) Conforming to ASTM B455, alloy 385.

6. Copper Alloy Sand Castings

a) Conform to ASTM B584; match color of other bronze for general


applications.

7. Copper and Copper Alloy Forging Rod, Bar, and Shapes

a) Conforming to ASTM B124M.

8. Copper and Copper-Alloy Die Forgings (Hot-Pressed)

a) Conform to ASTM B283, alloy 377.

a) Stainless steel bars and shapes shall conform to ASTM A276.

a) Conform to ASTM A167.

3. Austenitic Stainless Steel Tubing

a) Seamless and welded austenitic stainless steel tubing for general


service shall conform to ASTM A269.

4. Welded Stainless Steel Mechanical Tubing

a) Stainless steel tubing shall conform to ASTM A554.

5. Annealed or Cold-Worked Austenitic Stainless Steel Sheet, Strip, Plate, and


Flat Bar

a) Conform to ASTM A666.

6. Castings, Iron-Chromium, Iron-Chromium-Nickel

a) Conforming to ASTM A743M, corrosion resistant, for general


application.

7. Castings, Iron-Chromium-Nickel

a) Conforming to ASTM A744M, corrosion resistant, for severe service.

E. Aluminum

1. Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Extruded Bars, Rods, Wire, Profiles, and Tubes

a) Conform to ASTM B221M.

2. Aluminum-Alloy 6061-T6 Standard Structural Profiles

a) Conform to ASTM B308M.

3. Aluminum-Alloy Extruded Structural Pipe and Tube

a) Conform to ASTM B429.

a) Tubes shall conform to ASTM B210M.

7. Aluminum-Alloy Castings

a) Conform to ASTM B26M, Aluminum-Alloy Sand Castings, OR

b) Conform to ASTM B108, Aluminum-Alloy Permanent Mold Castings.

c) Alloy 214 for natural anodized finish and alloy 43 for color anodized or
baked finish; except otherwise recommended by aluminum producer or
finisher.

8. Aluminum and Aluminum-Alloy Die Forgings, Hand Forgings, and Rolled Ring
Forgings

a) Conform to ASTM B247M, alloy 6061-T6.

F. Miscellaneous Materials

1. Welding Electrodes and Filler Metal

a) Type and alloy filler metal and electrodes shall be as recommended by


producer or metal to be welded, and as required for color match,
strength, and compatibility of fabricated items.

b) Conform to AWS standards specified in this Section.

2. Solder Metal

a) Solder metal shall conform to ASTM B32.

b) Flux materials shall comply with American Welding Society (AWS),


“Welding Handbook” for the type of metal and solder material used at
each location.

3. Fasteners

a) Galvanized zinc-coated fasteners shall conform to ASTM A153M.


Fastener shall be selected for type, grade, and class required.

b) Bolts and nuts shall be in conformance with ASTM A307, Grade A,


regular hexagon head.

c) Lag bolts shall be square head type.

d) Machine screws shall be cadmium plated steel.

e) Plain washers shall be round, general assembly grade carbon steel.

f) Basic metal and alloy shall match finished color and texture of metal
being fastened.

g) Flat-head screws shall be provided for exposed fasteners in accepted


locations only.

4. Anchors and Inserts

a) Inserts to be set in concrete or masonry work shall be furnished to


applicable trades, or provide other anchoring devices as required for
installation of ornamental formed metal items.
1) Threaded-Type Concrete Inserts
(a) Galvanized ferrous castings, internally threaded to receive
19 mm diameter machine bolts; either malleable iron
complying with ASTM A47M or cast steel complying with
ASTM A27M.
(b) Bolts, washers, and shims shall be provided as required,
hot-dip galvanized in accordance with ASTM A153M.
2) Wedge-Type Concrete Inserts
(a) Galvanized box-type ferrous castings, designed to accept
19 mm diameter bolts having special wedge-shaped heads;
either malleable iron complying with ASTM A47M or cast
steel complying with ASTM A27M, hot-dip galvanized in
accordance with ASTM A153M.
(b) Carbon steel bolts shall be provided having special wedge-
shaped heads, nuts, washers, and shims, all galvanized in
accordance with ASTM A153M.

b) Toothed steel or lead shield expansion bolt devices shall be furnished


for drilled-in-place anchors.

c) Units shall be furnished with exposed surfaces matching texture and


finish of metal items anchored.

d) Galvanized or cadmium-plated anchors and inserts shall be furnished


for exterior installation.

5. Lacquer Coating

a) Lacquer coating shall be clear, non-yellowing, of type and applied


thickness recommended by bronze fabricator.

6. Protective Coating

a) Coating shall be protective adhesive coated film 0.076 mm thick, or


approved equal.

7. Bituminous Paint

a) Bituminous paint shall be SSPC – Paint 12, cold applied asphalt mastic.

8. Non-Shrink Non-Metallic Grout

a) Non-shrink non-metallic grout shall be in conformance with


SECTION 03310.

9. Paint

a) Paint shall be in conformance with SECTIONS 09910 and 09970.

2.03 FABRICATION

A. General

1. No fabrication shall commence until documents under par. 1.06, are reviewed
by the Royal Commission. The Contractor shall be responsible for the correct
interpretation of the work to be done for the accuracy of the detailed
dimensions.

2. Items of material, size, and dimensions shall be fabricated as indicated. Items


shall be preassembled in shop to the greatest extent possible.

3. Components shall be designed to allow for expansion and contraction for a


minimum ambient temperature range of 49°C without causing buckling,
deformation, excessive opening of joints, and overstressing of welds and
fasteners.

4. Metal work shall be formed to required shapes and sizes, with true lines,
angles and curves. Provide necessary rebates, lugs, brackets, flanges,
fasteners, and anchors for assembly and installation. Concealed fasteners
shall be used where possible.

5. Welds shall be provided behind finished surfaces without distortion or


discoloration on exposed side. Welds shall be cleaned and dressed on
exposed and contact surfaces.

6. Joints shall be milled to tight, hairline fit. Corners shall be coped or mitered.
Joints exposed to weather shall be formed to exclude water penetration.

7. Where cutting, welding, and grinding are required for proper shop fitting and
jointing, finishes shall be restored to eliminate evidence of such corrective
work.

8. Sound castings shall be furnished free of warp and defects which impair
strength or appearance. Joints shall be milled to close fit. Exposed surfaces
shall be finished smooth, with sharp, well-defined lines and arises.

B. Welding

1. Shall comply with AWS Code for procedures of manual shielded metal-arc
welding, appearance and quality of welds, and methods used in correcting
welding work.

2. Welds shall be made sound and free from defects.

3. Fluxes, welding oxides, and discoloration shall be removed by pickling or


grinding.

4. Exposed weld beads shall be grind and polished to match adjacent metal.

C. Soldering

1. Soldering shall comply with the recommendations of AWS “Welding


Handbook,” Chapter on “Soldering.”

2. Soldering shall be used only for filling or sealing and not for mechanical
strength.

3. Where exposed to view, soldered joints shall be finished to match adjoining


metal and made as unnoticeable as practicable.

4. Brazing shall be used if necessary to finish steel or iron. Conceal brazing


metal. Brazing shall comply with AWS “Welding Handbook.”

D. Galvanizing

1. Zinc coating shall be provided for those items shown on the Contract Drawings
and specified as galvanized, using the hot dip process after fabrication.

a) Galvanizing of iron and steel hardware shall be in accordance with


ASTM A153M.

b) Galvanizing of rolled, pressed, and forged steel shapes, plates, bars,


and strips, 3 mm thick and higher shall be in accordance with
ASTM A123M.

c) Galvanizing of assembled steel products shall be in accordance with


ASTM A123M.

E. Ornamental Handrails and Railings

1. Fabrication of ornamental handrails and railings shall be in accordance with


SECTION 05520.

F. Ornamental Castings and Forgings

1. Fabrication of ornamental castings and forgings shall be in accordance with


SECTION 05560.

G. Ornamental Grilles and Louvers

1. Round Grilles

a) Form true circle to indicate radius; cut edge shall be finished to match
sheet finish.

b) 19 by 3 mm thick bar of metal matching face sheet shall be formed to


true cylinder to indicated radius; weld ends together and finish weld

smooth.

c) Cylinder shall be collar weld to concealed surface of face sheet


concentric with face sheet; finish welds smooth.

d) Diameter sizes shall be as indicated on Contract Drawings.

2. Louvers

a) Louvers shall be formed from single metal sheet; louver vanes shall be
formed with radiused end returns.

b) Indicated anchoring devices shall be provided.

c) Sight-exposed edges shall be finished to match sheet finish.

d) Height and width sizes shall be as indicated on Contract Drawings.

H. Ornamental Metal Fences and Gates

1. Fencing units shall be shop fabricated as practicable.

2. Materials shall be used of the size and thickness indicated on drawings, or if


not indicated, of the required size and thickness to produce adequate strength
and durability in the finished product for the intended use.

3. Work shall be done to the dimension indicated or provided on Shop Drawings,


using proven details of fabrication and supports.

4. Exposed work shall be formed to line and level with accurate angles and
surfaces, and straight sharp edges.

5. Exposed edges shall be eased to a radius of approximately 1 mm unless


otherwise shown.

6. Bent-metal corners shall be formed to the smallest radius possible without


causing grain separation or otherwise impairing the work.

7. Corners shall be welded and seams continuously and shall be in accordance


with the recommendations of AWS. At exposed connections, exposed welds
shall be grind smooth and flush to match and blend with adjoining surfaces.

8. Exposed connections shall be formed with hairline joints flush and smooth,
using concealed fasteners wherever possible. Exposed fasteners shall be
used of the type shown or, if not shown, use flathead countersunk screws or
bolts.

9. Anchorage of the type shown shall be provided, coordinated with the


supporting structure and the progress schedule. Anchoring devices shall be
fabricated and spaced to provide adequate support for the intended use of the
work.

10. Metalwork shall be cut, reinforced, drilled, and punched as indicated to receive
finish hardware and similar items of work.

I. Wrought Work

1. Members having sharp lines, angles, and smooth surfaces shall be leveled
and straightened.

2. Extruded members shall be free from extrusion marks.

3. Square turns and corners shall be sharp.

4. Curves shall be true.

5. Rings and loops shall have no visible joints.

6. Wider members shall be drilled and punched for smaller members to pass
through.

7. Smaller members shall be secured by pins or welding.

8. Similar members shall be half and welded or tenon and riveted.

9. Punched work shall be clean and true, without fins and burrs, with pattern of
uniform shape and size.

J. Equipment Plates

1. Plates shall be formed and penetrations provided in accordance with supplied


templates.

2. Reinforcement shall be built for anchoring devices in accordance with


approved Shop Drawings; weld to concealed surfaces of face sheets and
edges.

3. Sight-exposed edges shall be finished to match sheet finish.

4. Height and width sizes shall be as indicated on Contract Drawings.

2.04 FINISHES

A. General

1. Comply with NAAMM’s “Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal
Products” for recommendations for applying and designating finishes.

2. Mechanical finishes on exposed surfaces shall be protected from damage by


applying strippable, temporary protective covering before shipping.

B. Aluminum Finishes

1. Finish designations shall be prefixed by AA, complying with the system


established by Aluminum Association for designating aluminum finishes. If not
otherwise shown or specified, finishes shall be provided to match Royal
Commission’s samples:

1) Clear Natural Finish
(a) Conform to AA-C22R1; medium matte, clear lacquer
coating.
2) Class I Clear Anode Finish
(a) AA-M12C22A41 complying with AAMA 607.1
(i) Mechanical finish shall be non-specular as
fabricated;
(ii) Chemical finish shall be etches, medium matte;
(iii) Anodic coating shall be Architectural Class I, clear
coating 0.2 mm or thicker.

b) Directional Textured Clear Anodized Finish


1) Conform to AA-M32A41R1; medium satin, directional, minimum
0.2 mm clear anodized, clear lacquer coating.

c) Integral Color Anodized Aluminum Finish


1) Color Anodized Finish
(a) Conform to AA-C22A42R1; specular buff, alkaline cleaning,
chemical etch, minimum 0.2 mm color anodized, clear
lacquer coating.
(b) Color shall fall within acceptable color range, matching the
Royal Commission’s range of samples.
2) Baked Enamel Finish
(a) Baked enamel finish shall be provided on aluminum after
filling and grinding sides and polishing face, consisting of at
least 2 coats of high temperature baked enamel, complying
with AA-M42R10.
(b) Color shall match the Royal Commission’s range of
samples.

C. Iron and Steel Finishes

1. Preparation for Shop Priming

a) Uncoated ferrous-metal surfaces shall be prepared to comply with


minimum requirements indicated below for SSPC surface-preparation
specifications and environmental exposure conditions of installed
ornamental metal:
1) Exteriors shall be SSPC-SP6, “Commercial Blast Cleaning.”
2) Interiors shall be SSPC-SP7, “Brush-off Blast Cleaning.”

2. Factory-Primed Finish

a) Air-dried primer shall be applied immediately after cleaning and


pretreatment, to provide a minimum dry thickness of 0.05 mm (2 mils)
per applied coat, to surfaces that will be exposed after assembly and
installation, and to concealed, non-galvanized surfaces.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.01 EXAMINATION

A. Examine substrate and conditions under which ornamental formed metal items shall
be installed.

B. Ornamental formed metal work shall not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have
been corrected.

3.02 PREPARATION

A. Setting drawings, diagrams, templates, instructions, and directions shall be


coordinated for installation of items having integral anchors which are to be
embedded in concrete or masonry construction. Delivery of such items shall be
coordinated to the affected trades for installation.

B. Field measurements shall be taken prior to fabrication to ensure proper fit of work.

C. Bituminous mastic coating shall be applied to concealed surfaces of ornamental


metal where metal will be in contact with dissimilar material and where set in
concrete to prevent corrosive action.

3.03 INSTALLATION

A. General

1. Work of this Section shall be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s


printed instructions, except as shown or specified otherwise on the Contract
Drawings.

2. Cutting, drilling, and fitting shall be performed as required for installation. Items
shall be set accurately in location, alignment, and elevation. Securely fastened
in place.

3. Finishes shall not be cut or abraded which cannot be completely restored in


the field. Such items shall be returned to the shop for required alterations and
complete refinishing.

4. Concealed gaskets, joint filler, insulations, and flashing shall be installed as


work progresses.

5. Anchorage devices and fasteners shall be installed where necessary for


securing items to in-place construction including threaded fasteners, inserts,
toggle bolts, through-bolts, lag bolts, wood screws, and other connections as
required. Cut with rotary power tools of exact required size where possible.

6. Set posts plumb and secure to supporting construction as follows:

a) Horizontal Concrete Surfaces

1) Posts shall be set into sleeves, fill annular space solid with shrink-
resistant grout. Cover flange shall be secured to post.
2) Holes shall be drilled in concrete and secure posts with concealed
expansion anchors and post inserts.

b) Steel Surfaces
1) Posts shall be mounted to steel supports with fascia mounting
flanges and threaded fasteners.

c) Vertical Concrete Surfaces


1) Posts shall be secured in inserts with fascia brackets and
threaded fasteners.
2) Posts shall be secured with manufacturer’s standard fascia
mounting system.

7. Protective covering that have been damaged during shipment or installation


shall be restored. Protective coverings shall be removed only when there is no
possibility of damage from other work yet to be performed at same location.

8. Protective coverings shall be retained intact; coverings shall be removed


simultaneously from similarly finished items to preclude non-uniform oxidation
and discoloration.

9. Field Welding

a) Comply with applicable AWS specification for procedures of manual


shielded metal arc welding, for appearance and quality of welds, and for
methods used in correcting welding work.

b) Connections that are not to be left as exposed joint but cannot be shop
welded because of shipping size limitations shall be field welded.

c) Exposed welded joint shall be ground smooth and restored finish to


match finish of adjacent surfaces.

B. Installation of Ornamental Handrails and Railings

1. Installation of ornamental handrails and railings shall be in accordance with


SECTION 05520.

C. Installation of Ornamental Castings and Forgings

1. Installation of ornamental castings and forgings shall be in accordance with


SECTION 05560.

3.04 CLEANING

A. Aluminum and stainless steel shall be cleaned by washing thoroughly with clean
water and soap and rinsing with clean water.

B. Touch-up painting shall be done immediately after erection, clean field welds, bolted

connections, and abraded areas of shop paint, and paint exposed areas with same
material.

3.05 PROTECTION

A. Ornamental formed metal finishes shall be protected from damage during


construction period with temporary protective coverings approved by the ornamental
formed metal fabricator. Protective covering shall be removed at the time of
Substantial Completion.

B. Finishes damaged during installation and construction period shall be restored so no


evidence remains of correction work. Items that cannot be refinished in the field shall
be returned to the shop; make required alterations and refinish entire unit, or provide
new units.
