WELCOME

Camp Leaders,

We feel incredibly honored you would take time to

invest in the next generation over the course of Clash
Camp 2018. Think of the word “investment.” It’s important
to view the students you engage this week as just that, an
investment.

The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 3:7, “It’s not important

who does the planting, or who does the watering. What’s
important is that God makes the seed grow.”

This week and beyond, consider yourself a leader

responsible for planting seeds. We pray God will give you
the courage and faith to plant seeds of encouragement,
affirmation, Godly identity, joy, kindness, and so much
more of what this generation needs. Remember, patience is
key this week, God is always working, which means we’re
never waiting on what He has in store for our students.

Let me ask one more thing of you. Sometime over this

week, you’ll see a giant crowd of teenagers and feel
overwhelmed, I promise you it’ll happen. In that moment, I
want you to lift your vision and not see a crowd, but see
“The One.” The one student who needs extra attention or
love, whom God has a way of burdening our hearts for. In
fact, that’s what Jesus saw, not a crowd, but “The One.”
Never forget we’re pouring into the next pastors, teachers,
leaders, givers, and volunteers of Grace Family Church.
This alone should fill us not with fear but with faith!

Let’s have a great camp and celebrate the life change

of students together. Thanks for investing in the next
generation and let’s get ready to see students win the
battle through Christ!

-Pastor Stephen

WAR GAMES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

EARTH-BALL VOLLEYBALL

Objective:
This game is played like a 4-way volleyball game. Two teams
play in 4 squares divided by volleyball nets. Team members
must play adjacent from one another, not parallel. Scoring
is the same as Volleyball.

Rules:
•• This game is played like 4 Square and volleyball combined but with
only 2 teams. For example, in a clockwise rotation around the square
Blue, Green, Blue, Green.

•• The setup is a center post with 4 surrounding posts making a cross-

like shape. Nets connect from outer posts to all 4 sides of the
center post.

•• Teams will serve the earth ball to one another.

•• Scoring works just like volleyball. If a team sends the ball out of
bounds, the opposite team scores. If the ball touches the ground on
a team’s side, the opposite team scores.

•• Like volleyball, teams in a single square are allowed 3 hits to get

the ball over the net into another square. Teams are allowed to hit
the ball into their own teams OTHER square.

•• There are 2 rounds. Each round is 10 minutes.

•• Each team is allowed 24 players on the court, with 12 players per

square.

•• Each score is worth 1 point. The team with the most points at end of
all 4 rounds wins.

•• In case of a tie, teams will play a sudden death round and the first
to score wins.

WAR GAMES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

TUBE TUG

Objective:
This game is played on giant tarp covered in baby soap and
water. The goal is to retrieve as many pool inner tubes
from the center pile as possible and get them back to your
side / anchor. The team with the most total tubes collected
at the end of 4 rounds wins.

Rules:
•• Players must crawl at all times.

•• Teams will begin on the tarp, from the opposite side of their
anchor.

•• Once a team’s anchor is full, another player must become the second
anchor.

•• Tubes only count when placed around an anchor; any tube unanchored
is fair game for both teams.

•• No knocking over the anchors.

•• No stealing from anchors. Once a tube is around an anchor, it is

dead and cannot be removed.

•• The tie breaker is proximity of remaining tubes to anchors.

Whichever tubes remain closest to an anchor belong to that team so
long as a team member is touching the tube.

•• There are 4 rounds. Each round is 5 minutes.

WAR GAMES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

ULTIMATE EVERYTHING

Objective:
This game is played on a marked field with two basketball
goals at each end. The goal is to get the rugby ball to
the opponent’s end of the field to score. To score, the
participants can hit the basketball pole for 2 points, hit
the backboard or rim for 5 points, or make a basket for 10
points.

Rules:
•• Open rotation is allowed, as long as no more than 12 players from
each team are on the field.

•• Students may only take 3 steps once they catch the rugby ball. After
the third step the student must either pass the ball or attempt to
score.

•• Participants must leave a 3-foot space for the opposing player with
the ball.

•• If the team with the rugby ball drops the ball or allows the ball to
touch the ground then it results in a turnover.

•• If the rugby ball is swatted down by the opposing team and not
•• recovered, it will result in a turnover.

•• Interceptions are automatic turnovers.

•• There are 2 rounds. Each round is 10 minutes.

•• The team with the most points at the end of the allotted time wins.

WAR GAMES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

KIDDIE POOL KICKBALL

Objective:
Just like regular kickball except pools are the bases and
baselines are tarps soaked down with baby oil and water.

Rules:
•• All normal kick ball rules.

•• Players must stay on the tarp when running the baselines or they
will be called out automatically.

•• Players must keep in line, no player can kick twice until all
team players have taken a kick.

•• Rec leader will call foul balls.

•• Encourage students to use caution when running bases, tarps will be

slippery.

•• 1 round is 20 minutes.

WAR GAMES
RULES AND REGULATIONS

MAGIC MATTRESS RIDE

Objective:
This game includes all 8 teams. Each team will line up every
team member in a straight line, lying side by side on their
backs. Each team will choose their smallest team member
to ride on the mattress while the rest of the team must
transfer the mattress down the line, from one end of the
field to the other. Team members must pull the mattress
over top of them until it reaches the finish line.

Rules:
•• Players must lie down side by side forming a long straight line.

•• The smallest team member will be riding the mattress.

•• The mattress must never touch the ground. If it does, it cannot move
forward until it is placed back at the spot where it fell off.

•• If the team member riding the mattress falls off, the mattress
cannot more forward until the team member is back on from the spot
where they fell off.

•• Once the mattress has passed over you,you must get up and run around
to the end of the line and lie down and wait for the mattress to
pass over you again. Repeat until the mattress has reached the
finish line.

•• First team to get their mattress fully across the finish line wins.

•• All team members, including leaders must participate.

LEADER KEYS

There’s no greater opportunity than camp to provide a safe,

clean, and fun environment for teenagers. When all those
ingredients are at work, we believe life-change happens.
As leaders, it’s up to us to lead with intentionality, we
are the front lines for aiding the process of life-change.

•• It starts with you. I understand that I lead by example. My

participation in all activities models the behavior I expect from
the campers.
•• Counselor success. The students in my cabin are my ‘family’ for the
week. My role in their camp experience includes:
* I will make sure they are dressed according to dress code.
* I will help them be on time to all events.
* I will know where they are at all times.
* I will encourage and expect their best behavior, and be willing
to guide them with compassion.
* I am willing to acknowledge that my cabin’s behavior and
actions should be guided by myself.
* I will be involved in discipline, whether through simple
conversation or with campus staff and be their
biggest cheerleader and supporter.
•• The Four P’s. Pastor, Pal, Parent, Policeman. I understand that my
role as a leader requires I am their leader first before I am able
to be their friend. Conversations will be rooted in my desire to
lead them closer to God.
•• Hot topics. I understand there are discussions that students may
want to have that must be passed onto a student staff member. These
include homosexuality, sexual activities, drug or alcohol use, and
all physical or emotional abuse. Passing these conversations onto my
leader will not only insure my safety but the safety of all
students.
•• Boundaries. There will be no one on one interactions between
leaders or students of the opposite sex. There are no exceptions.
•• Lock down. Once my students and I are in the cabin for the evening
there will be no leaving until morning.
•• BIG No’s. Drugs, alcohol, sexual conversations or interactions,
physical contact with students or leaders will not be tolerated. My
activity in any of these will result in immediate dismissal from
camp.
•• Teamwork makes the dream work. I will interact with other leaders
in a respectful and kind manner. We are all in this together!
CL ASHCAMP18 LEADER GUIDEBOOK PAGE 16

DISCIPLINARY POLICY

The need for discipline is often the result of low

expectations on the part of the leader. Set your
expectations HIGH and you will be amazed at the results.
However, do not expect to be a miracle worker - you will
have to deal with problems.

Punishment is a matter of creative effort on the part of

the leader. Each student and each new situation is unique.
Below are the guidelines to be met while at camp.

•• No student is to be punished physically in ANY way or isolated. If

you think you are going to punish a student, it is time for you to
see the dean or staff member.

•• Avoid creating situations which cause temptation.

•• Effective discipline explains what the student has done wrong and
offers alternative avenues of behavior.

•• Never deprive a student of food or sleep or place them alone without

staff supervision, or subject them to ridicule, threat punishment or
excessive physical exercise.

•• Do not ever yell at a student, be firm.

•• Make sure you do make an honest effort to get to the bottom of an

argument or fight. Talk to both parties and take notes; let each one
present his side. It usually turns out both were wrong.

•• Keep the fighting students away from each other, this allows the
dispute to cool and dissipate.

•• Only the Dean or staff may make phone calls to the student’s home
for guidance with the situation.

•• Never talk to students when you are mad. Get the Dean or a staff
member.
CL ASHCAMP18 LEADER GUIDEBOOK PAGE 17

SMALL GROUPS

Small Groups are a big deal at United! We have added time

in the daily schedule of camp for you to lead small groups.

Why Small Groups? Because...

WE CARE Small Groups make a large group feel small

and it gives you the opportunity to show
students you care.

WE DESIRE Small Groups are an integral part of the

discipleship process of a student in
GROWTH United. Small Groups are a gateway to
encourage students to grow deeper in their
faith.

WE DESIRE TO Students gain wisdom when their life

intersects with a leader. A leader like
PROVIDE WISDOM you who has traveled down the path of life
a little further, can provide insight,
life altering encouragement, and wisdom to
students.

ACCOUNTABILITY You will provide positive reinforcement to

the students. Accountability starts in
MATTERS Small Groups and is reinforced when we
return from camp.
CL ASHCAMP18 LEADER GUIDEBOOK PAGE 18

SMALL GROUPS

HOW TO CONDUCT A GREAT SMALL GROUP:

••Purpose. Establish Small Groups as a time to express

ourselves and hear from each other. Tell students this
is a time to be honest and respect others.
••Conduct. Give everyone an opportunity to speak.
••Listen. You as a leader have two ears and one mouth,
use them proportionally. If you’re getting no
response, ask the question in a different way.
••Prepare and Pace. Your pace is usually dictated by
your preparation. If you promote quick answers, the
group will deliver in the same way.
••End strong. The Holy Spirit is big enough to lead you
when you prepare. Leave students with an action step.
CL ASHCAMP18 LEADER GUIDEBOOK PAGE 19

•• How will you empty that away from your life?

LIVE. Questions to help students live out what you have

discussed

•• Based on today’s Small Group discussion, how will you
