A Method statement of form work fixing for pile caps of Ancillary building B of proposed Secretariat for
Personal Identification at the proximity of Baththaramulla urban area. A new method is to be proposed by ICC
(Contractor) as ICC is specialized in such pre engineered shuttering systems and system form works. Quality
control measures, verifications, safety measures and environmental precautions will be utilized at the site
upon commencement of the works. Location of the work place and plan view of the structure is as per the
drawing no: PS2 – 01 and PS2 – 02.
This statement will describe the sequence, techniques and the specifications of proposed method of shuttering
for pile caps here in after.
2. Materials to be used
Approved, quality and standard materials will be used for props and support while tested and proven special
iron section and 12mm thick plywood to be used for panels (Side boards) This pre engineered proven , tested
panels (Sopia panels) are being used often in modern construction industry. Sopia panels have a default
dimension of 600mmx1200mm and can be adjusted to a given dimension as required at the site using nuts and
bolts. In pile caps, Sopia panels will only be used in single height, so the panel can bear the wet pressure of
concrete up to 1200 mm height.
I. 600x1200 Sopia Panels (braced and fixed with 12mm thick plywood/6mm thick metal sheet)
II. 50x100 mm Class III timber planks.
III. Wire/Concrete nails
IV. 75mm covering blocks
V. 8mm counter sunk bolt and nuts
VI. 8mm nut and bolt
VII. Form oil (Debond)
VIII. 5mm thick sponge sheets.

Sequence of the working arrangement of fixing of pre engineered shuttering for Pile cap construction steps will
be as shown below. All the steps shown in flow chart will be checked jointly with Engineer.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Excavation and leveling around the Pile / Cleaning of Pile top/Screed concrete
and reinforcement bar fixing
Step 3.a
Step 4
Placing of panels in to the size and the alignment of the pile cap.
(Adjustments should be done if need as per the dimension of pile cap)
Step 5
Propping , supporting and fixing of panels with 50x100 mm class III timber
planks and making liquid tight using sponges .
Step 6
Setting out for the Pile Caps will be done as per the given drawing no PS2 - 01. There are 75 no of Pile caps
shown in the drawing only within the extent of Ancillary building B. All these are having different sizes.
Excavation for the pile caps will be set to the given alignments and additional working spaces to accommodate
tools and workmanship. About 750mm working space will be provided depending on the situation.
Machineries for excavations will be utilized when and if need. Since the land has had reclamation and water
table is closer to the top surface a proper dewatering system will be done having 2” submersible pumps.
However if there is a necessity of temporary shoring, H-iron and timber planks will be used for such work.
Cleaning and leveling of pile top and surrounding will be taken place.
Just after the floor preparation completes, Grade 15 concrete (50mm thick) will be used for screed concreting.
3.4 Reinforcement
Once the screed concrete is cured enough, fixing of reinforcement will be done as per the given drawing and
the specifications.
In order to ensure that the finished surface is smooth formwork will be clean an oily material will be
applied. Gaps of shuttering are minimized and contact each other closely, to prevent leakage up to the
refreshments of shuttering.
The support system of shuttering will be ensuring its stability without deformation, without readjust
due to load and rigid for support the shuttering on location while keeping covering to the reinforcement
bars. Covering 75mm.
Type of formwork, alignment, rigidity, fitness, provision for service will be checking by the Quality
inspector.
While placing the concrete, some labors will be assigned to look after the shuttering and observe
movements, leakages and to keep adequate quality of panels, materials, tools etc.
Necessary environmental precautions will be taken complying with the environmental plan established
for the project. Every precaution in the plan has been set to avoid any hazard and damages to surroundings.
Throughout working period, Suitable actions will be provided to mitigate saw dust/dust within the site
by watering or use of other accepted methods. Form oil and other chemicals to be used for the task will be
handled carefully and contaminations to water table will not be taken place during the work. Wooden waste
also to be disposed to the bins positioned within the work site.
Safety precautions will be taken complying with the Safety plan established for the project and every
precaution will be taken to avoid any accidents and damages to adjoining properties, workers, etc. After
commencement of the Pile Cap excavation, barricade will be drawn to surrounding working place to avoid
unauthorized entrants.
7. Supervision
Designation Responsibility
Technical officer Taking levels, Checking alignment, covering to the RF bars , rigidity of props
and supports.
Construction manager Checking the quality of materials and techniques used for the task.
Quality control inspector Carrying out all stipulated inspection in accordance with quality procedure
and method statement
Safety Officer Taking responsibilities in all safety requirement
