Contract Management 13.1
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Last version of Infomaker based tool

•  Infomaker updated from 10.5 to 12
•  Still 32 bit, does not support 64 bit
•  Can only be purchased to add additional
licenses to existing 13 deployments
•  Adds web services licenses for remote
access
•  Allows using custom applications to interface
with team members.

!"#"$%&'(()

5
Contract Management 13.1
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Screens and menus unchanged from 13.0

•  Still supports Jboss and JackRabbit
•  Can do versioning using JackRabbit (does not
require UCM or Sharepoint for versioning)
•  Relatively easy, two server deployment
•  Could run stand alone if needed
•  If you have “legacy licenses” (concurrent), this
is the last release supported
•  Legacy licenses must “migrate” to Application
(Named) User licenses for Version 14.

!"#"$%&'(()
!"#$%&'()))))*'"#(!!+",&-)!('.+/(!)))))0"!$+,1
6
Contract Management 14
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Only version available for new purchases

•  Redesigned interface to match P6 8.1
•  Infomaker replaced by BI Publisher for
better reports and graphics
•  BI Publisher is invisible to most users.
•  No longer available for stand-alone
operation
•  No requirement for MS Word or Excel (uses
BI Publisher to create rtf/csv files)
•  No Jackrabbit repository
•  Need Sharepoint or UCM to do versioning.

!"#"$%&'(()

7
Contract Management 14
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Web services support

•  Allows using custom applications to interface
with team members.
•  Different deployment than 13.x
•  Weblogic is more complex than Jboss.
•  BI Publisher requires it’s own server and specific
Oracle components.
•  Must have UCM or Sharepoint to do versioning.
•  Supports 64 bit Unix/Linux and 32 bit Windows.
•  Oracle recommends hosting for small to medium
deployments.

Observations
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  14 can be slower than 13.x and more dependent

on local hardware capability
•  14 exports Logs to XLS through menu command
(supports Open Office and Office)
•  Screens are crisper and in line with P6
•  Different parts work better with Firefox, other parts
with IE8, Java issues can be common
•  All forms and reports seemed to work fine – BI is
invisible to users

10
Purchase, Update or Migrate?
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  If you are purchasing new, 14 is only option

•  Any version of 10, 11, 12, 13 that has current
maintenance can “upgrade” to 13.1.
–  New 13.1 licenses are only available to existing
deployments/users.
–  Sybase must be migrated to Oracle or MS-SQL.
•  If you have current maintenance under an Oracle
license (you purchased Contract Management after
the merger) – you may be able to “upgrade” to 14
at little or no cost.

!"#"$%&'(()

11
Purchase, Update or Migrate?
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  If you have a “legacy license” (purchased contract

Management before merger – concurrent licenses)
– you can “upgrade” to 13.1 or “migrate” to 14
–  Migrations may result in additional cost for software or
maintenance – each case must be submitted to Oracle
for pricing
–  Current ratio on migrations is up to 2 Application Users
(Named) for each concurrent license but no increase in
annual maintenance charge.
–  You add users to 13.1 or 14 through custom interfaces
with web services licenses – 25% of the cost of a full
license.

12
Deployment  Challenges
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Java  versions  on  local  clients  –  most  common  support

call  for  our  hosted  clients.
•  “Version  control”  is  an  image  of  the  default  form.
•  “Version  control”  does  not  print  an  audit  trail.
•  PCM  input  forms  are  not  customizable.
•  PCM  security  does  not  support  field  level  seangs.
•  PCM  can  be  cumbersome  to  use  on  a  tablet.
•  PCM  has  limited  built  in  workflow  based  review/
approval  processes.
•  Oracle  future  development  is  focused  on  Unifier.

13
Deployment  Solu2ons
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  API  or  web  services  will  allow  custom

interfaces  (screens)  to  access  PCM  database
while  preserving  built  in  rules
–  Allows  you  to  create  role  based  interfaces.
–  Use  programming  to  support  “intelligent”  fields.
–  Control  what  data  people  have  access  to.
–  Insure  security  and  confiden1ality  of  data.
–  Web  service  licenses  cost  25%  of  full  PCM  licenses
–  Expand  PCM  func1onality  and  increase  the  life  of
your  PCM  with  web  services.

–  P6  Steps  displayed,  inspector  simply  checks  completed.
•  Once  approved  by  leads,  schedulers  update  P6  to
provide  daily  status
–  Inspectors  status  ac1vi1es  with  no  P6  knowledge.
–  Schedulers  provide  an  extra  level  of  accuracy  to  cross-‐check

Key  Success  Factors
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Simple,  organiza1on  standard  screens  similar  to  PCM.

•  Ease  of  data  entry  through  “intelligent”  fields.
•  Heavy  use  of  default  values  and  dropdown  lists.
•  Automated  Email  No1fica1ons  to  contractors  and

•  Contractors  s1ll  use  their  internal  project
administra1on  tools  and  then  submit  their  document

input  to  CMI.

Benefits
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  Preserved  security  of  PCM  database  by  keeping  the

contractors  in  their  own  separate  interface.
•  Reduced  internal  costs  through  tasking  the
document  creator  with  doing  the  data  entry  to  PCM.
•  Reduced  costs  because  CMI  users  only  need  a  web
service  license  at  25%  the  cost  of  a  full  license.
•  The  “real  1me”  status  reports  reduce  requests  to
Metro  admin’s  to  provide  reports  to  contractors.
•  Runs  in  most  any  environment  including  PC’s,  Mac’s.

Summary
January 2014 Construction CPM Conference – Walt Disney World

•  CM 14 is the future, CM 13 “sunsets” in 2015.

•  CM 13 licenses are “perpetual” and can be used as
long as needed.
•  Web services are a relatively inexpensive way to
customize and extend the functionality and life of
Primavera Contract Management.
–  Additional costs are monthly hosting & custom
programming (if needed).
–  Offset by reduced license and implementation costs
compared to alternatives.
–  Offset by reduced costs for data entry, external IT
support and data security exposure.
