YOUTH ORIENTED CONVENTION ON BASIC RIGHTS

II. LOCATION, DATE and TIME:

AMA Computer College Dumaguete City, July 9, 2018, 1:00-3:00pm

III. PARTICIPANTS:

A total of 20-30 Senior High School Students with 2-3 members of the Faculty and Staff as
participants.

IV. RATIONALE:

The Constitution itself mandates schools to teach the basic rights of individuals sojourning
in the Philippines, however, this constitutional mandate has not come to fruition. Legal
education is not given much emphasis among the youth whereby such is acquired only at
Law School.

V. OBJECTIVES:

To offer sufficient knowledge for standards of protection for the civil, cultural,
economic, political and social rights of the youth enshrined in the 1987 Constitution.

The students shall divide among themselves certain Articles in the Bill of Rights
relevant to the youth.

Topics to be discussed:

Sec. 1: Life Liberty and Property (Rosales)

Sec. 2: Unreasonable Search and Seizures (Rosales)
Sec. 3: Communication Privacy (Tupas)
Sec. 4: Freedom of Speech, Expression and, of the Press (De La Cruz)
Sec. 5: Establishment of Religion (Rosales)
Sec. 6: Right to Travel (Tupas)
Sec. 7: Right to Information (De La Cruz)
 VI. RECOMMENDATION:

One of the hurdles faced by our generation and the generations after it is its apathy towards
the ongoing issues in society, this apathy does not stem from the lack of compassion, but
because of ignorance. Through this forum, we hope to instill into the youth the basic knowledge
of their rights in hopes of widening there scope of vision towards the issues of society. To help
them understand what may and may not be lawfully done and to interest them in the ways of
the law and politics.
